  3. I would never dream of competing with His Majesty Larry, but I have done a Black Friday post on VI:Control for the past three years. I categorize all the deals by type and put them into alphabetical order. I think that I have had the most comprehensive and organized list of BF music software deals on the web--but this year I am going to add a LOT more stuff. It's pretty much all I do in November. https://vi-control.net/community/threads/tiger-the-frogs-alphabetical-list-of-november-2020-sales.100595/ But Larry ALWAYS gets the deals fastest and I only do this once a year. I have no idea how he does it all the time. When I get to December, I need deals rehab. Wait....

  4. I think, even if we did all that, we still won't be able to post the deals even before the vendors post them. That's what Larry used to do. Lol

  11. Most of the fixes you see (and there have been thousands) have come as a direct result of users submitting crash dumps or project files with demonstrable issues. Its the only way for software to improve. Bugs wont fix themselves unfortunately

  16. You may as well install Platinum since you own it. There are several bundled plugins that will be useful to you. You can skip installing content that you dont need. The basic installation won't occupy any significant disk space.

  17. @Hillmy Thanks for the dump file - I investigated it. It happens because the plugin doesn't complete its processing while you are changing presets and because cakewalk waits for it to finish processing it hangs. Its actually faulty multithreading on the plugin's part. However the actual hang happens due to some thread safety changes we made for 06. I am fortunately able to work around the problem and have implemented a fix. You should be able to prevent the issue for now by changing presets only when the engine is off. (turn off the engine button on the transport when not playing)

  19. With all the mentions of GAS in this forum, I thought of this product. Seriously though, if someone was unaware of how we use the term or if English is a second language, these GAS references could be quite strange.

  22. just an opinion/observation here, but the challenge of maintaining a PC based DAW seems to require a fairly high degree of competency to manage; 1. a wide open computing platform (best bang for the buck, mostly reliable, but with a greater range of potential issues than a closed system) 2. running on an O/S with a well documented tendency to shoot the user in the foot on a regular basis with unvetted and poorly scheduled updates 3. trying to keep up with demanding realtime processing via 3rd party audio interfaces with varying degrees of driver quality 4. using a very full featured DAW with options on options for configuration and workflow (nice but... ime with the potential to generate dependencies on dependencies given a creative user base with a wide range of personal preferences. There's a school of thought that believes limiting options improves reliability/stability. The general focus on stability/improved feature set of CxB releases since Bandlab tends to support that philosophy. In addition, the workflow enhancements have enabled such a high degree of productivity I feel I'm outstripping either the hardware or the DAWs ability to keep up (speed comping is a great example). 5. loading said DAW with a host of 3rd party (= unvetted) VSTs that may or may not be compliant with a standard. (understood it's documented, but implementation seems to have some loose ends?) Cakewalk has been super wrt to sorting these out, with both highly reputable devs as well as a few newer less well known ones. FWIW, this forum has been more helpful than any other resource for sorting out issues, but still spending more time than desired on troubleshooting. Been thinking about documenting a "Dropout Diary" to distill known good remedial actions into a disciplined checklist, if for no better reason than to stay focused for the next time. ... There are times/situations when tracking to tape seems more productive. 🙂

  23. Noted this with tempo maps. Had a client wanting to revist sides from several years ago. The old tempo maps were updated with a set of "jumps" which I ended up deleting in order to put in a slope. The projects have been stable once reworked to align with the new features. The update is a much appreciated improvement.

  29. Its not clear if you are asking about BandLab issues or CbB. We can't assist with problems related to the BandLab Mix editor since there is a different team managing that. Contact support to report issues with BandLab. Also there is no interaction between the bandlab software and Cbb so one cannot affect the other.

  34. For a guitar and a mic input, you would do very well with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. The 2 inputs will easily accommodate both at the same time, or you could get by with the Scarlett Solo if you only intend to track one at a time. The Focusrite ASIO drivers get reasonably low latency for this price range. Your laptop should be more than fine for that use. If you also add a new MIDI keyboard, those typically connect with MIDI over USB, so no need to worry about MIDI ports.

  36. This error is because you are running Win 7 which is an out of date and unsupported OS and you are missing updates to TLS protocols. Read this thread for a solution. I meant "Browse BandLab Projects" sorry. Its also referred to as the bandlab library view.

  37. One thing I would add about choosing an interface, is think about what you might need in the next 2-3 years. I'm not saying spend a fortune on a 32 in / 32 output interface, but think about scenarios where: You might want to record more than just one or two channels Will you always be using VST effects, or will you be reamping via a real amp in the future, or might want to use external effects processing? So for example, something like the Scarlett 2i2 is a great interface, but you've only got 2 ins and 2 outs... and the 2 outs will invariably be connected to your monitors. The Scarlett 4i4 gives you 4 inputs and 4 outputs for an extra 30% - 40% of the cost. In general, you can't use more than one interface at once ( due to technical restrictions with ASIO / wordclock sync issues ), so if you do have to upgrade your interface your old interface will be redundant. One exception to this rule is interfaces that have an ADAT input. If you buy an ADAT converter, this will give an ADAT equipped interface an extra 8 inputs. The Scarlett 18i20 / 18i8 both have ADAT inputs. They're not cheap interfaces, but in saying that the Behringer UMC1820 essentially has the same feature set as the Scarlett 18i20 - i.e. 18 inputs (8 analog, 2 SPDIF, 8 via ADAT), 20 outputs (10 analog, 2 SPDIF, 8 via ADAT) - but is the same price as the Scarlett 4i4... although it's arguable that the Scarlett preamps are superior. Anyhow, all I'm saying is you might want to consider getting something slightly more than what you need now to save money in the future.

  41. Any interface with a female 1/4 input will likely work and (as mentioned) the Focusrite Scarlett is an affordable good quality one. As mentioned, computer processing speed undermining latency is important. I just went Thunderbolt (available on laptop?) and am very happy I have vintage Marshalls, Fenders, Gibson amps, but I just finished an LP using only S-Gear Scuffman software for guitar sounds. I love it! You can listen to David Gale "Down in Smoke" album to hear both clean, crunch and heavily distorted sounds. By the way, you will find support on this Forum to be terrific....very helpful. Take it from me, some who knows very little about such matters.... good luck,

  44. There was a YouTube video recently comparing EZbass and ujam Virtual Bassist v2. That would be a different struggle. I have MODO Bass, and that's not the same at all. What you could do is record/edit your MIDI parts from either EZbass, or ujam Virtual Bassist v2, and then play the part back with a custom MODO bass.

  46. Congratulations Noel and Cakewalk team. I’m astounded how many improvements continue to be made to this program. I guess I could always find something to complain about or beg for a specific change or feature but after having now passed 25 years of using Cakewalk/Pro/Sonar/CbB (along with other programs) I’m actually content to follow Cakewalk’s vision for the program’s development. Since the acquisition by Bandlab, I have to admit I haven’t been able to keep up with the rate of development of existing and addition of some of the new features. The program now far outstrips my ability to maintain what I once would have claimed as being a very high level of proficiency with its use. I guess I continue to make music (when health permits) the same as I’ve done for ages and while the improved stability and smoothness benefit my process, I’m a long way off using many of the new features. While that leaves me more to explore in Cakewalk itself, I really miss the days when I felt I was able to make meaningful contributions to the community here. Like chiming in to answer a query regarding a function or process. These days I’m lucky if I understand the question. Lol Anyways, after rambling on so much; congratulations again to Noel and the team for another stellar update.
