  1. Certainly MODO for sound. To muddy the waters further the Ample Sound basses sound terrific and have a different set of songwriting tools to EZBass and should be included in a comparison. Ample's riffer function is very powerful with a large library of parts that really nail things like string selection for greater realism, EZ is better for chord progressions.

  2. For those (like me) that use the Izotope Product Portal to update their various products ........ don't bother opening it up and updating to v 1.4.2. Apparently there is a permissions issue with the said installer and it will only install/update itself in Windows safe mode ! Which basically renders it unusable. I was advised by their chat line to wait for a further update to the Portal software. Cheers, J Fixed now

  4. Base Octave for Pitches But I usually change the labels in the step sequencer with a drum map or step sequencer template. Would be nice if the SS were updated to read alternate names from master.ins like the PRV.

  5. I’ve only had ezbass for a day but something I thought was really nice was converting guitar audio into bass midi. I can see this saving me tons of time. There are a lot of videos showing this. This is one example.

  6. As a general rule, physical potentiometers should ideally be in about the 2:00-3:00 position, as noted by Alan above. Many mixers actually highlight this region with a bar printed on the silkscreened label around the pot (exception: trim controls, where the printed bar indicates the boundary between gain and attenuation). The input trim control is a pot at the very beginning of the signal chain, usually before any active components. This allows you set up each of the mixer's inputs so that they'll all be in the same general level, and the main faders can all start at "0dB" (which, if they were rotary pots instead of linear pots, would correspond to the 2:00-3:00 position). Anders, look into the topic of speaker calibration and the K-System. In a nutshell, this is the process of setting up your monitor for consistent levels at a given volume knob setting. It's based on a standard that was originally devised for motion picture exhibitors, meant to assure that watching the same movie in various venues will be played at a consistent volume. An excellent primer on the topic is Bob Katz's well-respected book Mastering Audio, a must-read for anyone trying to make sense of all this stuff.

  12. I have hundreds of Kontakt libraries now (thanks Pianobook). There is no way I would want them all to appear in the Library view. I much prefer to use the file view or the quick load tree structure. The great thing about quick load is that you can organize your libraries by type, for example have all your pianos together, or your guitars, or your kazoos if you swing that way. A library can appear in more than one location in quick view as well.

  13. This is me trying to take track outs. Everything is set. Except it won't export until I give a files name. So I entered a single letter "z" and clicked Export. This is what I got. <The text I entered>-<Track Name> - <Track number> When all I wanted was this <Just the track Name> This is the second time I'm requesting this. Its an unnecessary step to rename every track when we need to exchange stems with other producers. I have to always rename in order to keep it clean, while my co-producer doesn't (Cubase). Pleeease fix this !

  14. MODO is a great sounding bass! Plus the advantage of modeling rather than sampling is that you can set up a bass exactly the way you like it. As far as I know, all of the alternatives to MODO use samples. So with samples there's no way to change the many bass options unless they are also included in the sample library. But with MODO you can switch from 4 strings to 5 or 6 strings, fingered or picked, round or flat wound strings, passive or active electronics , body style, etc., with just a few clicks...

  15. so far in my demo, I noticed two things. Ezbass seems to have custom note mapping unless it's just me Modo sounds fuller. I think i will come down to how valuable I find Toontrack's AI since Modo definitely sounds better

  22. CbB was created from SONAR Platinum code. Since that time the DAW has received numerous fixes and enhancements. CbB does not include many of the plug-ins and other content bundled with SONAR Platinum, however; it will take advantage of the plug-ins and content bundled with any 64bit versions of SONAR installed on the PC.

  23. To be clear, content bundled with SONAR Platinum is not included with CbB but features and bug fixes added after X3 are part of the DAW.

  24. Yes, perform a full install of SONAR X3, apply the patches to it then install CbB.

  25. One for Plug-In Property Page, should you wish to include it. For Preset Name drop-down menu, the first cell in the image is its standard state, the second is what's displayed after the user double clicks on it to change the preset name. It persists until the preset is saved. Whatever color you use for both cells should have good contrast with View Menu Text.

  26. Hi Nigel , On this song I just let it rip from the start to the finish . I happen to like surprises and I am pleased my guitar playing told a good story . I'm glad you enjoyed 😊 Hi Andy , You know , you needed a smile on your face and I needed to get intimate with my guitar . She likes it when I play Rough and choke her on the neck . (I always feel like The Mod is watching me ) ( and I have no privacy ! ) (Woah oh oh) 😎 thank you for the kind words . Thank you very much Shane ! X 2 . Super funny post Steve ! all the best , Kenny

  27. Better yet, open the project and DELETE all the fx. It's a quick way to determine whether it's a plugin problem at all, and I don't trust any plugin to go turn into a straight wire when it's bypassed.

  28. I hear ya on the matter of fragility. I'm old. I remember when everything was vacuum tubes. You'd carry spare tubes. And you are preaching to the choir regarding what's really important: a genuine, heartfelt performance. Hopefully, one that that also doesn't suck.

  32. while waiting (if you don't already have a tool for bulk rename) i recommend StExBar as an option - it's a context menu set of tools and the rename feature can use RE as well as plain text to quickly rename files. https://github.com/stefankueng/tools/releases/tag/StExBar_1.11.2 i use it when people send me files in bulk with weird naming and symbols embedded. also when i'm prep'ing for shipping files to remove extraneous info from my exports.

  33. You need an audio interface with an "instrument" input. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is probably the most popular interface. The newer 3rd gen interfaces are reasonably priced but you you can get some good deals on a used 2nd gen. Slightly cheaper is the Presonus AudioBox, or if you're on a budget something like the Behringer UMC202HD will do fine. All of these interfaces are bus-powered from your USB port and should work fine with a guitar. I actually use a 1st gen 2i2 with my laptop for recording guitar when I'm not in my studio. Before you get anything however, check that they have native ASIO drivers available for download - you don't want to use ASIO4ALL if you can avoid it.

  35. Thanks chaps , i sent it back to thomann and they said there´s no faulty components , i sort of guessed that anyway , its possible I´ll have to pay the postage and thats fine, I dont mind spending a couple of hundred euros to get the right unit to fit my means the largest project untill now only has only had 16-18 tracks using sub busses for effects etc so no movie produtions can aynone recomend a good 150-200 euro interface ? cheers P.... I was looking at the 404 as an upgrade

  39. What I find a bit hilarious is YouTube Tutorials teaching audio and the level is real quiet. There are standards for internet video that are not that much different than MP3 files. So I always aim for -1.0 db true peak and around 14 LUFS.

  40. YouTube is especially problematic, with levels all over the place. Although they do implement volume normalization, it doesn't work. Sorry, but I don't know of a solution for this, but I'd recommend using YouTube's volume slider rather than your audio interface's volume control. At least then you can keep your amp's volume consistent, which will improve your mixes. If you've never noticed it before, in the context menu on YouTube there is a selection labeled "Stats for Nerds". Check it out, it's illuminating. Along with video info such as dropped frames, it also shows the original audio level and how much reduction was applied by YouTube. I've observed some as low as -24 dB and as high as +8(!)dB. I guess it would be far worse if YT didn't do any automatic normalization at all. Here are examples of how the content level affects both the volume you hear and the overall quality. One comes in at +7.8dB, the second at -6.8dB. Same concert, different levels. One is noticeably distorted. See if you can figure out which is which without peeking (it's not hard).

  41. First off I wouldn't think in those terms; 1O'/11 o'clock etc.. I don't use my daw computer for internet but have the 'computer speakers' set to different channels on my audio device other than the daw's main or monitor outs. Those are on separate channel outs. Try setting it up that way then pull the fader back until it matches your mixing levels. My system is calibrated @ 85dB SPL, my source mixes are around-26/-23 LUFS. Naturally mastered/ released material will have significant level differences between them. (Same with using reference mixes. I pull the levels back to match the nominal mix level I'm going for, not matching the mix to the references mastered level.)

  43. My normal workflow is to use Synchron player interface to audition articulations and then assign appropriate artic from map. My strategy for artic map layout is to mimic the layout of the Synchron player menu as this makes finding correct artic easy while looking at Synchron player. This is a wonderful brass library. The solo brass have pretty extensive articulations. Here's the Solo Trumpet. VSL Synchron Brass by Harder.zip

  44. Hello! These are articulation maps for four of the free Sforzando instruments offered by this site: https://unreal-instruments.wixsite.com/unreal-instruments. I am not very experienced with making articulation maps, so if there's any issue, please let me know. Also, some of the articulations for the koto are in Japanese. Those are various pitchbends. An example list of the articulations - Standard Guitar: natural/picking harmonics, brush, fret/down/up/alt mutes, down/up/alt/PBR12/PBR24 sustains, hammer pull, down/up/in/out slides, half tone/whole tone pitchbends, auto/manual unison pitchbends, portamento, and half tone/whole tone/min3/maj3 trills UnrealInstrumentsArtMaps.zip

  45. Another vote for staff improvements here! I do realize a DAW and full fledged scoring apps like Finale/Sibelius are somewhat different and it might not be possible or feasible to get to that level at a reasonable amount of work based on the interest for such a thing from the CW community. I have said before that notation is really the only missing link in CW for me. I can manage to work around it either writing by hand or in other programs like mentioned above, but I would obviously prefer to be able to do it all within CW. But I do realize the implications of including scoring to that level, most likely mega effort involved. I hope maybe there could be some updates with more notation options like different tuplets and polyrythms etc. But hey, I am very happy with the product as is, but one can dream, right ?
