  2. For those (like me) that use the Izotope Product Portal to update their various products ........ don't bother opening it up and updating to v 1.4.2. Apparently there is a permissions issue with the said installer and it will only install/update itself in Windows safe mode ! Which basically renders it unusable. I was advised by their chat line to wait for a further update to the Portal software. Cheers, J Fixed now

  3. Cakewalk 2021.06 update 1 released In case you missed it... Update July 13 2021: 2021.06 Update 1 (build 27.06.0.053) Enhancements for input and output port names When using Friendly Names for audio devices (Edit > Preferences > Audio - Devices) , use the vertical bar character (|) to separate left/right/stereo channel names. When using Friendly Names, menus only show L/R/S descriptors and not channel numbers. (Channels can be named using the vertical bar character in the friendly name). Channel numbers are only shown in the port menu and not in the actual port name field to make the readout more compact. The full name is always shown in the tooltip. Channel numbers in menus are separated from the port name, using a columnar layout. You can choose to display the port channel information as a prefix or suffix to the port names shown in the menu. Set this via the Display Channels as Prefix in Port Menus option in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Display. Port names and tooltips for sends and aux tracks have been improved. Finer choices for tempo decimation The TempoImportDecimationResolution Cakewalk.ini variable affects how tempo envelope shapes are preserved when opening Cakewalk 2021.04 (and later) projects in earlier versions. The TempoMapDecimationResolution variable specifies the minimum time resolution for each tempo map entry when creating tempo envelope curves and lines. Both these variables can now be set to values smaller than 60 ticks. The values are as follows: 1 = 240 ticks (16th Note) 2 = 120 ticks (32nd Note) 3 = 60 ticks (64th Note) 4 = 30 ticks (128th Note) 5 = 15 ticks (256th Note) 6 = 12 ticks (320th Note) 7 = 6 ticks (640th Note) 8 = 3 ticks (1280th Note) Cakewalk responds to PC sleep / wakeup The audio engine stops if/when Windows tells Cakewalk it is about to suspend/hibernate. If Cakewalk receives a Wakeup notification (i.e. you've awakened from suspend or hibernate), it will restart the audio engine. Note: Some audio drivers may not respond properly to a wakeup notification, which will cause the audio engine to fail to restart. Bug fixes Not all horizontal grid lines showing on Tempo track when using Tempo Track Show/Hide Tempo Track Show/Hide shortcut (ALT+T) is not shown in Track view View menu Display All Times as SMPTE does not persist as expected Extra tempo node added at end when inserting tempo after last tempo node Synth port numbers appear unexpectedly after using Replace Synth Spacing in Input picker inconsistent for inputs above 9 In ASIO mode, the input port menu reported the number of stereo channels rather than the actual hardware channel count In-app Update fails to launch if user path has Unicode characters

  4. My first music rig was over the top: 386 with 10 MB drive and 16MB RAM. In the mid-80's that was an enviable setup. The drive was $600 and half the RAM I stole out of a Sun workstation, as I deemed any computer that couldn't make music unworthy of a whole 16MB. Cakewalk 1.0 for DOS, five synths, a 2-track Pioneer and a 4-track TEAC 3340S. Altogether maybe $10-12k or so invested - when I was only making $30k a year. We have it so much better now!!!

  5. At such moment I have visited the nearest music store to buy reasonable audio interface... Not that I no longer use other "devices" which can produce sounds from my computer (7), 3 are permanently connected. In critical situations I use the one I trust. But in practice cables, mixers and amps can start generate something without audio interface help. Big power button is the only ultimate solution against all possible problems of that kind (at home I use power sockets with remote control). From my personal experience, even in case you have big dedicated knobs for each stereo par, find the right one in multi-channel setup once something is really loud is hard 🙄

  6. For me, I just have a main play machine. This play machine runs all the games I'm getting from Steam, Epic, Uplay, Battle.net, GOG, JRRShop, Audioplugindeals, VSTBuzz, Audiodeluxe, Pluginboutique, Everyplugin, ADSRSounds, etc. Jokes aside, maybe I've been lucky but I haven't seen any conflicts between the game distribution platforms and the Audio Software. If I am doing something that is really CPU intensive I may exit whatever background service I'm not using at the time, but most of the time I just let everything run. Of course, if my income depended on the DAW I wouldn't put any games (not even GOG).

  8. One more thing to consider. If you are going the modeling route anyway, try somethin like the Helix or Headrush pedalboards. Save your backs and do away with the amp altogether. Even the SansAmp pedal sounds really good. If I am working FOH, I love guitar players who use those types of rigs. But (going to demonstrate my hypocrisy here), if I'm the talent I want one or more of my tube amps. If you are leaning toward a modeling type amplifier, that Fender Champion is hard to beat. They sound really good. They are versatile, portable and the price is right. And... as mentioned above most listeners can't tell the difference. Only other guitar players will care and half of them will be leaning against the wall with their arms crossed anyway.

  11. Do you have both? I own the Scarbee Classic EP, and like it a lot. It is light years beyond the older Scarbee vintage keys included in Native Instruments Komplete. I haven't completed my Orange Tree group buy yet because I'm still on the fence with the Famous E. It does sound really good in the demos and I'm feeling like I must have it. That said, what would my wife say if she were to find out that I own five Rhodes libraries and I just bought a 6th. Arggg, what to do......

  16. In a nutshell, what I figured out was that those images just indicate which plug-in UI has focus, regardless of ACT. So they should indicate it as such by being lighter or a different colour. It's a useful indicator in cases where you're controlling plug-ins with the computer keyboard or whatever. As you know, once I started fiddling with those images it opened a can o'worms with all the different images. I changed a couple of them, and it was like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube to back out, so I forged onward. It helps to have Amazon Prime Video running on monitor 2.

  20. I started using the free version of Youlean loudness meter a few weeks ago, would never go without it again. One side benefit for me of Youlean is it really helped me get a better grasp on how to set my compressors. I set up Youlean to display True Peak values then began adjusting the compressor settings. Changing the threshold, ratio, and output settings shows how that affects the track volume in real time. It really makes a difference for me in managing peaks and loudness levels without compromising the dynamic range of the recordings.

  21. I think it’s for use with an acoustic or an electric fitted with piezo pickups. I thought it would be intended to allow you to DI an acoustic and get a decent mic sound. Haven’t had a chance to try it though so I could be wrong.

  22. Type 1 MIDI files are multi track files. Type 0 are single track. To convert you will have to split channels to tracks. This can be done using a CAL script. See C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\CAL Scripts\Split Channel to Tracks.cal I've attached the file below if you cant find it. Split Channel to Tracks.cal

  23. Those guys strongly believe in their product price politic, well... it's up to them, I would say there are plenty of deals for interesting compressors in the ~$29 zone so why send $44 for this compressor ? But you can try it against other competitors trials to ensure it is really worth that Btw, let's not forget about free options available as well I can admit I have payed more for some but I was convinced they are very unique (Kush for instance)

  24. Here is a short text tute on integration back and forth. Updated yesterday https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022218453-Integration-between-BandLab-and-Cakewalk- Keep in mind, you'll need to keep your export under the current limits of 12 tracks and 6 minutes of duration to successfully move your tracks to a BandLab project. OK, that might be an issue, BUT where it could work in collab is to temp mixdown the project to a WAV without the instrument / vocal your collab partner might be contributing. Then when they finished you can import the new track from BL back into your CW project and add as track

  27. I think Pro channel EQ is good like other say. CA2A is one of the best LA2A emulators out there. I don't know if other pro channel comps are that good too as I don't really use them but this one is just amazing. For synth, Z3TA+2 is my favorite synth but it's no longer available as you can't buy it anymore. The sound is a bit dirty but I can make interesting sounds with Z3TA+2. I really like it. I have too many plugins so I also want to know more as I stopped using most of cakewalk plugins.

  28. It seems correct so far. The full path should be C/Cakewalk Content/Cakewalk Core/CAL Scripts. The first file in my folder is named "ANY_THIN.CAL" The last file is named "VARYVEL.CAL" There is no midifiles in my CAL scripts folder.

  29. To avoid Windows updating when you don't want it. I go to Control panel/Services / Windows update and choose disabled. When I update to a new CbB version, I then turn Win updates back on and update all. Then I save an image file of my C drive, which I keep lean. Then if something goes haywire like happened to you, I'll just go back to the earlier image of my C drive and everything back to normal. Macrium Free works well for creating C drive images. I remember last year, every time I updated to Win 2004, the computer wouldn't boot, until Windows aborted the update. I found from a forum that some computers weren't updating right and I needed to wait until MS fixed this. For a while my Win update didn't automatically include 2004 in the update options, which was good. Since this was a year ago I'm not sure what happened, if it was fixed I'm currently running Win 20H2. I don't know if that's a higher version of 2004 version., since I forgot about it until I saw your post. In my Update window it says that Win10 21H1 is available to update. I'm for sure going to hold off after reading your post.

  30. In the Cakewalk browser. The media tab. Highlight the midifile. Look att the bottom frame and you can see information about the file. If it says midi type 0 it behaves as it should. That midi type act as you describe. It has to be a midifile type 1 to open several tracks.

  32. In that same VI Control thread people seem to prefer the Famous E sound wise. I do too, as it seems more genuine, more alive, more in line with those famous Bill Withers or Al Jarreau tunes.

  33. Check your PMs. I sent you a test file. You can Open in Cakewalk, Import or Open With Cakewalk and it should give you multiple tracks. I can't get it to not open as multiple tracks. If you don't mind, PM me your file and I will try it on my side.

  42. Well I think a better adjective is workflow rather than old school Those programs are built for different primary use cases rather than production. Cakewalk has deep midi editing tools and now articulation support that those programs don't have. And our console view is one of the better implementations depending on your perspectives of course. Look and feel aesthetics vary a lot and we will continue to update our UI. Cakewalk is a program that has roots 30 years ago so there are bound to be some elements that are legacy but that isn't always a bad thing for reasons that you state. PS: try going to Europe and telling people that their architecture is old school lol.

  43. The lead guitar tone is very listenable, and your choices of where the melody goes have a lot of feel, so both give this tune a great start. I liked the sax as well, and the piano throughout supports everything! I think you moved the piano to the edges, to make room for the featured stuff in the center? It works! Maybe you could focus on drying the drums up a little, or making them more present in the mix somehow? The combo of the snare and ride cymbal having a sssssst sound, in addition to the string pad which seems to filter in and out with fizzyness, might be creating some washiness that I think distracts from your excellent leads and other elements. Just a thought fwiw. What do you have as a filter on those pads? I really liked it! cheers, -Tom
