  2. @reko tomo - I think some of the issues you're having are maybe down to you using a basic workspace. For the time being, I'd recommend switching your workspace to "None" to give you access to all of Cakewalk's menus. Once you're familiar with what's available, you can then decide whether to design a workspace of your own or not. The other issue is that it's now 21 years since Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 was released. Many things have been changed / moved about since then. I strongly recommend watching some tutorial videos if possible. I appreciate that most tutorials will be in English, but even if you don't always understand what the user is saying, you'll at least see them using the features. The Groove 3 SONAR tutorials are very good, as is this free collection on YouTube (with this you can also turn on CC's and auto translate to your native language): Anyhow, in answer to your questions: This is where the Track's Edit Filter control is: Operations like Scale Velocity that do processing on your clips are now in the Process menu:

  6. I have found that the recorder looper is a nice practice tool. While your playing around with presets and you come across a groove, record it, jam over it over and over on and on!! It has many more uses, but you can see what I mean.

  10. Actually, I went to a GC one day just to browse and came across a very pretty white Squire Strat with a maple neck. I played it through a Boogie Mini Recto head with a 1x12 cab with Celestion in it. Anyway, the GC salesman was trying to sell me the amp and cab, but I was so impressed with the Squire that I told him leave me alone, I may not buy the amp and cab, but I ain't leaving without the guitar! I ended up getting them all! When I got the guitar home I did what I normally do, put my strings on it and give it a good clean up. When I took the pickguard off, I was totally blown away that it had conductive shielding paint all on the inside!! Then I noticed that the pickups were Seymour Duncan single coil sized humbers!! I also noticed that the tremolo was a knock off of a Floyd Rose floating trem!! The pickguard was 5 layers, in a type of MOP swirl, definitely not the standard issue on a Squire. Then I got to looking at the paint, this was not a regular Fender white. More of a pearl color. I am even thinking they did some kind of fret work on it also because it is just so smooth!! So I concluded that somebody bought a Squire, fixed it up, then sold it to GC for whatever reason. Some salesman over there saw a Squire label on the headstock and placed a $200 price tag on it!! This thing plays like a dream!! Sounds fantastic!! It will never leave my possession I can tell you that!

  21. Update: Haven't seen any responses to my bug reports, but I did gather a bit more info on the issue. I am seeing the same DPC latency spikes when moving the mouse cursor into the text entry field in Notepad. Also... the problem goes away completely after switching from the Radeon driver to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. It has it's own issues, however (consistently high DPC execution time in wdf01000.sys)... but the problem with text fields is gone. So this really seems to be an issue with the AMD Radeon driver. I really want to use this notebook for live performance, so hoping I can make some headway with AMD.

  23. (1) My comments in this thread relate to the difficulties I faced moving to the Skylight UI and seem to fit your difficulties as well. (2) You seem to be using the Staff View. If that meets your needs, no need to pressure yourself to give up using the old version. (3) Regarding the simpler UI in older versions, you can greatly simplify Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) using the Workspaces feature. For example, I've made some personal/custom "Staff Entry" Workspaces that enable me to focus on recording notes from my usb keyboard and editing in the Staff View. As for CbB's "congested" UI, you might want to spend some time tweaking/designing a Workspace (including Control Bar Moules) that better fits your workflow.

  24. Yes, as a matter of fact I do. But it only happens (clips disappear or other strange results) when I'm applying gain to more than one clip, as you mentioned. I just got in the habit of applying gain to a single clip at a time.

  25. Better yet you just need to put a limiter on the master and set it at the desired max level. The Loud Max is free and works well for this. https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2060/

  28. I have a SW1000XG that is basically useless and would fail on most motherboards. Running a box with W2000 and Sonar 2 would probably be a cool experience. W2000 is my favorite OS. If I could do it over again I would have never bought that card and got a Hammerfal for the same price and still be using it. One reason why I would never buy a Yamaha DAW product is they are good at doorstops because of lack of continued support.

  31. Great song guys. Knew it would be ... although I feel Tom has a point regarding he's comment :- ( I'd put a vote in for either slightly increasing the volume of the lead vocal in the verses, or more likely dipping the volume of the fuzzed-out guitar a bit so the lead vocal can pop more ) ATB Steve

  38. I would like a way to have cakewalk easily "simplify" or "average" out automation nodes, that were input from a controller. IE: riding fader volume. Example, I use a midi controller to write initial automation. But then I want to touch it up later. I'd like Cakewalk to intelligently remove as many nodes as it can, to make tweaking with a mouse later on, easier. When working on film, I like to do one live pass on score ducking and then clean it up with the mouse. The main issue is that all of my motions are typically slightly late as I'm reacting to the video on screen (as you'd expect unless you have scenes completely memorized). When there are too many nodes, it makes grabbing the appropriate group and sliding it where it needs to go, slightly problematic because the boundary nodes collide. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't. There is a CAL for removing every x nodes, but that's too imprecise to really be useful to me. Other DAWs have simplify functions. I'd like Cakewalk to do so as well. In the screenshot, Red shows the actual automation written and blue shows an example of about what I'd like cakewalk to do. Almost like a quantize-ish function (not quite, but I think you get what I mean.) I know I can just draw a new line with the mouse, but I'd prefer to not make 1000 spaghetti nodes all over the place. Thoughts?

  39. Very cool collab gents! I figured you guys would make a good team! I like the manic quality outside of the chorus, slightly Oingo Boingo! The chorus itself, for me, seems a bit of an emotional dip as it returns to the more conventional, more sedated rhythm. It's not bad or anything, and you might like that respite from the high energy parts. The theme I loved because wifey and I are starting to have that discussion of selling all of zee sheet and living Buddhist-style where your possessions are a bowl and some wi-fi. I'd put a vote in for either slightly increasing the volume of the lead vocal in the verses, or more likely dipping the volume of the fuzzed-out guitar a bit so the lead vocal can pop more. Just the verses, the chorus all rings true. great job both of y'all, and kudos to Lynn the Mix Whisperer!!! cheers, -Tom

  44. +1 on the Gibraltar thrones. i have two round ones. way way better than "saving money" on a cheap one. i use one for keyboard and one for drums. very heavy but much more comfortable if you're in the seat for a couple of hours.
    1 point
  45. In my observations, most thrones outside of the low-budget zone use a very similar base that's compatible with (or identical to) the ones that Roc-n-Soc uses. The differences are only in the seat, not the bases. So you can get just the top and it should slip right on to a decent quality Gibraltar (or Pork Pie or whatever). Gibraltar also sell replacement tops for much less than the equivalent Roc-n-Soc. A friend gave me his Roc-n-Soc tractor throne because after trying it, he wanted to go back to a round one. I tried it and also decided that I, too prefer a round one. Where the contoured motorcycle seat bothers me is when I change how far apart my knees are when playing. That seems odd, because one foot on the hat pedal, one foot on the kick pedal, but still, for whatever reason I wind up running afoul of the contours. The round one also allows me to park my tush farther back if I want. When I rewrapped my first kit in sparkle vinyl, I took my round throne seat over to the auto upholsterers up the street and had them use a remnant of the sparkle vinyl to recover it. So when I haul out the old CB700's, I have a matching throne. It looks pretty cool behind my daily players, a vintage 1970 Slingerland New Rock outfit. One advantage that the tractor has is that I can fit a backrest to it, and as I get older, I'll probably end up getting one. Tip: the top of the line Gibraltar is very similar to the Roc-n-Soc at about half the price: https://www.amazon.com/Gibraltar-9608MB-Cordura-Throne-Backrest/dp/B000BZIYY8/

  46. Of course I do. It was actually the first thing I tried when I wanted to add tracks. I wrote that from the perspective of a new user who may not be so right click oriented, and to point out how counterintuitive the menu system is. The menus in the major views are confusing and inconsistent. If we assume that the Track View is the "default" view, then the other views should follow the same menu logic (such as it is) and layout. As much as I love the Console View, its menus are baffling. "Track" menu instead of "Tracks" menu, Modules and Strips should be consolidated into a View menu, Track Manager is in the Strips menu rather than the Track(s) menu as it is in Track View, and Track and Bus should be consolidated into a single menu. Options is the only one that makes complete sense, and it's in a different location from the Track View's Options menu. In Piano Roll View, the commands that are in the Notes menu and Controllers menu should be in the missing Options menu, and again, there's no way to add new tracks from inside the PRV (even with a right click in the Track pane), you have to switch to another view or the Global menu to do that. Also, and this is the most egregious omission, there's no way to go directly to Drum Map Manager from the Piano Roll View, which is where drum maps are used. None of these changes require revisions to code in the functions themselves, they're just shuffling menus around, and, before the moaning geezers chime in, there could be an option to use the old menu configuration. @abacab, it's there, it's just easy to miss. When you select "Intrument," down at the very bottom of the list of synths is "MIDI Only." I think it would be better to have it as a checkbox or even a tab, with options to set the output, etc., but it's there.
