  2. Do you like watching a watermelon blown up in ultra-slow-motion? Who doesn't? What about hitting a banana with a baseball bat? Or dropping an egg into a mousetrap? Then my newest video is for you. I admit that it is a product of me learning how to use Adobe Premiere. I also think my version of the Tchaikovsky music using the Cinematic Studio series sounds pretty decent.

  3. But if you had followed my advise which was to by pass ALL effects using the toggle in the Track Manager you would have solved your issue a long time ago. This is the reason we do it that way. It eliminates all possibilities. It even toggles the Pro Channel. It's easy to miss those and would eliminate issues like @murat k. mentioned. I use that toggle when recording new audio or midi tracks to eliminate issues with latency and CPU load. If it's in the effect bin then what else could it be but an effect. It is 100% in your signal path. It shouldn't cause issues but if it does find something else. Lots of choices. I just looked it up and it seems totally pointless. It doesn't do anything the Master buss doesn't already do. Use Span if you want a free meter that tells you a lot more than cakewalk. A must have tool in my studio. That and the Youlean loudness meter paid version. https://www.voxengo.com/product/span/ https://youlean.co/youlean-loudness-meter/

They are an exciting company based out of Italy and are offering their very powerful channel strip: Cream2. This channel strip is modelled off of some old iconic, British built hardware that can give an extra element of warmth to your mixes. https://customer.focusrite.com/en/register

  11. In addition to the above is to test with a wave file in Melodyne stand-alone version. The algorithm chosen can make a big difference and you sometimes need to split blobs. Which version of Melodyne are you using?

  12. This is definitely not my company! I hate those kind of blackbox installers (Aquarius) and it seems there is no other way. More and more I pass on plugins (even free) using such intrusive installation/authorization processes. There are very good plugins on the market that allow you to control the installation and that have a really user-friendly authorization method (either included in your download or with an authorization file) that allows you to reinstall without problems on a new system (even if you are not online!).

  14. Okay, @Simeon Amburgey, I recognize a lot of what you play in your videos, from the church/gospel stuff to Stevie Wonder, Toto, secular stuff, but I really feel you need to show The Beatles more love, especially with this piano!!! Come on, at least a little "Penny Lane" or "When I'm Sixty Four." I always enjoy your playing, but I think you need to do another video for this piano where you get lost playing a Beatles medley! It is, after all, the band the piano is most famously connected to. Even if you're not a big Beatles fan, I think you need to at least try a bit for this one. Don't make me start a petition!

  17. Have you tried comparing the different algorithms in melodyne to see if another algorithm would handle the material better? I have found one gives better results than another at times, but sometimes the edit is just not going to sound ok.

  23. Is there an option to reverse the clip colors, so the background of the clip is colored, rather than the contents? See this screenshot with Cubase on the left and Cakewalk on the right, both using the same color coding for the clips. I find the Cubase screen much easier to work with.

  24. After a long period of writer's block, I'm finally finished with a new song for the new year. An unusually uptempo song for me, it's a mixture of optimism for the future and trying to rid myself of feeling down. Even though I fell back on some old writing techniques, I think this one is interesting all the way through and I'm really happy with how it turned out. BUT, I'm always open for comments and suggestions. Thanks for listening! (Lyrics are on the song page) Better Weather

  25. Cakewalk needs a Humanize feature in the PRV!! I tried the CAL script but its very limiting as it only allows offsetting. No options to randomize velocity and note lengths. Also, there should be an option to color notes differently within the same track.

  26. Yes, I understand. I was thinking that you could find a less expensive version with less I/O if you don't really need 26x26 I/O. But that's not the case, at least at Sweetwater. The only TB3 interface less expensive than the Quantum is the UA Apollo Solo with 2x4 I/O. All others are more expensive.

  28. Nice video! I would suggest using alternative platforms like lbry.tv/odysee.com in addition to YouTube. They are less "picky" with regards to Community Rules (censorship) and they have a rewards system that doesn't have a minimum subscriber threshold, gives rewards for more activities, and allows direct tipping. You can go directly to https://odysee.com/ or, if you don't mind an affiliate link (goes to my channel): https://odysee.com/$/invite/@gremlinsmusic:b We're not immune to "community rules". Exploding fruit is funny today but tomorrow it could be considered "unacceptable violence". For some people censorship happens because of politics, for me it was a music video that included bullfight scenes that were considered too graphic with a bull being killed (in Spain, where I'm from, these scenes are perfectly fine). YouTube deleted it, Lbry allowed me to upload it (it's just tagged as "mature").

  35. FWIW, You'll see *zero* performance difference using an original Quantum 26x32 (Thunderbolt-2) vs. the newer Quantum 2626 (Thunderbolt-3). The Apple Thunderbolt-3 to Thunderbolt-2 adapter ($50) works perfectly. If the original Quantum is a better feature match, I wouldn't give the Thunderbolt-2 connection a second thought. I still have an original Quantum... along with a RME UFX+.

  36. First step would be to make sure the track you are outputting midi from is is pointing to kontakt. You do this by looking for the small : O : icon, ( O stands for output - C stands for channel and B stands for bank.........right click it and set the track output to kontakt. Is the Music editing program saving the file as Midi type 1? You should check that as well. If you are playing back a single midi channel - you should check that the channel is set to omni.

  37. It's funny you mention that. Back in the day when I was a mechanic apprentice and also did car detailing for the franchise I worked for, micro-mesh was like a trade secret that only professional detailers knew about and you could only get it through the trade, it wasn't even available to the general public. I remember having a few sheets that I kept a long time after leaving that industry and using them for guitar finishing and just about any fine finishing job. Completely forgot about that until I saw your post. You are right, it is definitely the bees knees for fine finishing of fret work, even removing the scratches from the wood between the frets that can often happen and also for taking out scratches and haze from the body of the guitar, using it wet or dry like in the video. It's a lot more available now and I could get some in from on-line sources but I want to finish the guitar this weekend, so I'll have to make do with what I have but will order some in, that stuff is great. Stewmac is a great resource but I don't buy from them because being in Australia I don't like waiting for things to arrive, there are similar products here though that I can get in from Melbourne or Sydney. The way I see it, I'll finish the guitar as I can now, but in a month, I'll probably do more work on it to finish up because there will probably be other stuff that comes to light, some other vibration or more fret work or a different string gauge/type or I may decide to put a different pickup in the bridge etc, I also might put chicken head knobs on it. Or I might hate it and get something else. I will only find that out from playing it for a bit. I also think it is good to have a guitar setup thread in the forum because recording guitars direct into an audio interface to a DAW is very different than playing through an amp. I must have started 100 threads in a multitude of forums at my disappointment of being able to record electric guitars direct, always sounding scratchy and harsh and almost like that horrid piezo sound being present, thin with an unpleasant distortion being applied. Using an amp sim does little to make it better. I can get there almost, but it's a lot of work and not that satisfying when I know what it "should" sound like from playing through an amp. I resorted to using pedals before the interface which works much better for me. But I have only ever recorded strats with single coils and trying for a cleaner sound, even with the lead. I just listened to some stuff I quickly recorded on this guitar just to check out the electrics of the guitar, it was recorded direct in with no effects. There is none of that previously described stuff happening at all. No scratchyness or harshness or unpleasant background distortion, it does not sound "dry" at all. It sounds warm, mellow, thick and almost as if there is an impulse response on it but there isn't. I had to check a number of times whether I had an amp sim or reverb on or something but there was nothing. This might just be the humbucker pickups or a combination of that with the guitar and the wooden bridge, I don't know but I like it a lot. If it sounds that good to me direct in and dry when the guitar was in such a state of disrepair, what on earth is it going to sound like when I plug it in fixed up and shove an amp sim on it.

  40. I got all the stuff to finish the guitar off today, so tomorrow morning the repairs and reconstruction will begin, by Sunday, I will be playing! I found some rubber tubing from my old strat pickups that I will use instead of the springs to secure the pickup to it's housing. Also found some double sided tape and stick on felt circles. What I will do is create pads to hold the pickup secure in it's housing by combining 2 layers of double sided tape together with the felt and create 4 of them for each pickup. They sit on the inside of the pickup housing and put a bit of pressure on the pickup. An invisible solution I hope to the vibration problem. Together with reshaping and resoldering the metal pickup cover to the pickup, I've got some clamps for that job. I'll do the frets one at a time with scotchguard and a painters blade that I've got that I can use to protect the fretboard while I just clean them up a bit, the flatter radius allows this and it will be quicker and more effective than masking tape. Then I'll go over the whole lot with a block. I'll leave the bridge as is for the moment, see what the intonation is like. I don't like the idea of prizing it off, I'd rather go the route of fitting an adjustable top to the bridge if it is needed. The only reason for taking it off the soundboard would be to move it 2 or 3 mm one way, which will most likely result in a band of some sort shadowing the bridge, even if it's all done smoothly. Why is fixing guitars so exciting!

  41. Allan, this is a great little pop tune you've done here. It has a very catchy hook chorus, and I always like your vocals. I especially like how you used the triangle during the guitar lead instead of a cowbell, or was that my ears just ringing ? That Beatle harmony part does make an allusion to the 60's, but the rest of it is hard to categorize . . . I just like it, the overall way it sounds makes you feel good when you listen to it. Great work.

  47. I just thought I would add this example of multiple chord, time signature, and tempo changes all within a few bars. Sent a copy of Claire De Lune from Notion's classical score library, and extracted the chords to the chord track. The score view is presented by the new internal score feature in Studio One 5 Pro. You can freely send score and note info between Notion 6.8 and Studio One Pro 5 now. No need to use Rewire unless you want to sync transports.

  48. For an example, Studio One has several independent global tracks in their track view design. The arranger track, chords track, signature track, and the tempo track. . The time signature changes and the key signature changes do occur on a common track, but that doesn't appear to conflict. Those functions appear to be logically separate.
