  2. I got this yesterday. This is my first Creator Series, and I was surprised to see that you can get up to 9 drums/percussion instruments on one note! And some of these are pretty poweful drums! I'm sure it is well explained in the demos, but it didn't sink into my head, as when I think of a kit, my brain is programmed to think of it as different instruments on each note. With this you can get a huge kit on one note. And when you start playing these patterns... let's just say full versions of the MIDI files are aimed mainly at the very LOUD end of the spectrum. The demos make this clear. If you make epic music, this will rock you. And I could see how somebody could do a cue for an action movie just using one of the presets. Certainly you wouldn't need much more. At the same time, each production kit has versions that are only high or only low. So you can get some nice variations there. I can see myself using those the most. There are some really great things in there. But what really is great about it is the high quality of the sampling and MIDI patterns. They add up to drum beats that sound as real as they are dynamic. With all the great drums recorded I can make more modest kits for myself that will work very well for my needs. I'm happy with my purchase.

  7. So I remember when Cinesamples had a Mrs. Mills Piano for Kontakt but a while back their agreement with Abbey Road ended, so they had to discontinue that library. Today, Spitfire Audio has released their own Mrs. Mills Pianos as one of their $29 Orig!nals series. I cant wait to try it out and of course I will try and do a live first look and playthrough as soon As I can. Until then you can read all about it here on my site: https://wp.me/p6Mqqs-As Here is the trailer:

  12. Bought .. Downloaded .. installed. In my view ( from Cork, Ireland ) .. its crap. The way its setup and how it sounds + the GUI .. meh, popup windows cant be closed etc. The DATA/Samples file is only 225MB .. and it is not Kontakt, its some custom thing by librewave My advise, pass on this one. I would have been better of buying a 12 pack of pint guinness cans which is around the same price here ( €12 )

  13. Was a massive Marriot fan, from the days of the small faces. When I got to the UK in 86, I got to see him in a small pub in Tottenham with his band packet of three. The crowd was so small actually got to sit with him for a chat afterwards

  14. Heh, I traded Commodities back in the 90's and the quote there was similar: "Want to make a small fortune in the Commodities market? Start with a large fortune!" 😁 Of course, back in the day, many top-name musicians and bands made very little compared to the marketers. The Who didn't even make a profit until after Tommy came out! (But that might be due to all the equipment Townshend destroyed on stage! LOL.)

  17. Hm, I've been using Cakewalk for many years and have never reflected upon the OP's question from a new user perspective... Now that I think about it, I think it IS a bit weird that you listen to loops with perfect sync in the Browser... but as soon as you drag one in into your project, it's not in sync by default. You have to press CTRL+L (or use audiosnap). Wouldn't it be more logical (for new users - and old!) to automatically enable Groove Clips on loops you drag and drop when the browser auto sync is active?

  20. One of the features of my new Motu M4 is a Loopback feature. It seems to be a new trend with interfaces. I guess a common complaint was it being hard to copy audio directly from the internet. Probably copywrite law issues. I've been mucking about with screen capture with OBS and I would always have to use WASAPI shared to get OBS to record Cakewalks output. I noticed the Loopback channels as options in OBS and sure enough this works. So I can stay in ASIO mode for screen capture recording as well as using the interface to adjust the balance. And then today I found a second use which is what I think most people were after. A friend posted a song on Reverbnation but he is a paranoid so didn't allow downloads. I wanted the song file so I could analyze it with things like span and Youlean. Ha- just set an audio track in any DAW or wave editor to the Loopback channel and record in real time. Anyhow just thought I'd share as many people are always shopping for new interfaces and this just might be a feature worth having.

  21. Specifically the Plug-ins tabs. Having to right click and select from a list of categories is excess hassle. Even 3 years in to CbB, I still sometimes forget that I can't just drag a plug-in from Uncategorized to the folder where I want it.

  23. https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/spring-morning Spring Morning: this is a song I wrote 20 years ago, but never actually recorded properly. It is supposed to capture the feeling of the first true spring morning after a long cold winter, where you stand outside in the early morning light, looking towards the sunrise, and realize it’s not quite as cold anymore. It’s a nice feeling. from the new bats brew album "Elemental"

  26. +1 on the multi column menu. I too don't want anything on the screen that it's not Inspector or tracks so never have browser or anything up. I use the per-manufacturer layout as I know what I want (just like I do with my outboard) but certain manufacturers (UAD, I'm looking at you but you're not alone) add everthying even if I have not or never will purchase it and it's pain in the bottom with a long list. I'm in the insert panel, I want to insert something so a menu is great. At least the current menu allows to use keys to jump to the effect first letter which eases the annoyance a little, but unfortunately all the UAD plugins start with.. U

  27. I may have solved this, or at least found one big reason why it's been happening: My large orchestral projects have many instruments, and in the clips pane there are all these white thingies all over the place. I'm not sure what they are, but they go away when I do "bounce to clips." And then the project saves normally. Old thread I know, but I just wanted to tie it up, in case anyone else might have this problem.

  29. Come on Will, tell us how a 32 bit operating system gives you more headroom on a wave file. I'll wait. 32 bit and 64 bit BIT DEPTH certainly can affect it, but it has NOTHING to do with the operating system. You can have 32 bit and 64 bit double precision stuff happening on either a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system and the wave files will be absolutely identical sonically. It is entirely unrelated.

  30. I believe Adrian has hit every single nail squarely on the head, well done! I quoted the above part because it directly described my own experience . . . once you've played "You May Be Right" by Billy Joel 12,473 times, and otherwise great song will threaten your sanity, even if you are making $300 a throw. To the OP, I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but wedding bands are the canary in that coal mine. Unless weddings and corporate parties come back, there won't be any money in music for most musicians. And, is that really music, anyway, or is it just performance? You could be the teenage kid who likes to shoot hoops, asking if there's any chance to make it into the NBA. But there, talent actually matters! In music industry, not so much. My wish for you is that you can pass quickly through the commercial desires, and return to making your personal music for its own lovely sake, for the only thing music can really feed these days is your soul. Which is enough.

  32. Quantum is a great audio interface. When it comes to round-trip latency, Quantum is an exceptional performer (can achieve sub 1ms). Obviously the machine has to be able to keep up with the load... or you'll hear glitches. Part of the reason why Quantum can achieve such low round-trip latency is there's no onboard DSP. IOW, Quantum doesn't offer hardware based monitoring/mixing/routing/loop-back-recording. All routing/mixing has to be done via software (in your DAW application).

  34. USB-2/USB-3 audio interfaces can't get much below ~4ms total round-trip latency. Thunderbolt audio interfaces can get down below 1ms total round-trip latency. Think of Thunderbolt as "external PCIe".

  37. Allen and Heath QU-16 user here. Excellent desk with really nice preamps, the full unit is extremely quiet. Fantastic build quality. You can record pre/post fader and there's 16 XLR inputs, alongside 16 line ins. I've had no issues tracking with this desk in Cakewalk. It replaced a Soundcraft Signature 22MTK which died on me after 4 uses. That unit sounded good, but the build quality was sketchy in places and the headphone amp was useless and noisy so I lost faith in the unit and sold my replacement. The QU-16 is a much better desk overall. Another option is the Zoom LiveTrak line, they are really nifty mixers for the money.

  39. Yes, these have appeared here and there in root folders at various times. I've seen them in other folders, too. It is related to the VST scan, I think. I think they have always been empty, but my memory is faulty these days... I have my TEMP system environment folder set to C:\Temp and the temporary file folder in Sound Forge prefs set to D:\Temp and I've seen them in C and D root drive as well as C:\Program Files\Sound Forge. These past few days I've spent many hours rummaging through Procmon logs of Sound Forge startup and tutorial processing so I am getting accustomed to it more. I attempted to figure out when this started - I know it happened in SF 12, 14 and 15. I have the SF 11 installer as well as many earlier ones, maybe back to the Sonic Foundry days (I never through anything out, drives are cheaper than my time), which is the last version when SF was owned by Sony. I tried to install that, but it required an installation of early DOTNET installations to proceed, so I quit at that point. Very Off Topic. It is interesting to follow the history of these types of tools. I bought Cool Edit 95 and Sonic Foundry Sound Forge when they were introduced. I liked Cool Edit more and purchased a 'LifeTime license' from Syntrillium. A short time later, maybe in CooEdit 2000 or so, Syntrillium sold Cool Edit to Adobe and it became Audition. I guess that was the end of life, because my license no longer worked. Sonic Foundry was sold to Sony and now Magix. Spectral Layers was owned by Magix, but now Steinberg. Confusing. And if you want to get support you have to upgrade and switch to the new owner.
