  8. Garageband is a pretty capable program, and it sounds like the OP is the target market for whom it was designed. Apple realized there needed to be an on ramp to Logic. Apple does make the interface and connection process, which is where he seems to be having trouble, easier than Windows. However, you're right that if he'd persisted, we could have at least gotten him up and running. What a lot of people don't realize that when they open CbB (or Logic, for that matter), they're being given the keys to what would have been a quarter-million dollar studio not that long ago - but without an engineer or tape op. It's as if the OP had walked into the Record Plant with no knowledge of what connected to the patch bay, how to sync to time code, etc. I sympathize with people who want to express their musical ideas and then they run into technological roadblocks. But, learning an instrument isn't easy, either.

  9. I have experienced this phenomenon often. Most of my composing is done on piano, so it'll usually be the first instrument I record. That piano track then serves as the framework for the song that will subsequently be built around it. And quite often the piano gradually sinks into the background as I go. A lot of this comes down to frequency masking - the piano is a full-spectrum instrument and as such is prone to being masked by everything else because everything else overlaps with it, frequency-wise. Consequently, one trick that I often employ is EQ automation. If the song has a piano intro, no EQ will be applied during that part. Later, as other instruments join in, I'll take a whole lot of bottom end off through automation. When the piano is alone, it needs to fill the entire spectrum. But as soon as a bass is added in, it no longer needs to hold down the low end and can be high-passed to give the bass its space. If the backing tracks are lush synth pads (I, too, rely on Omnisphere a lot for such things) that may call for the piano to be thinned even further. It may seem counter-intuitive to ruin the exquisite tone of an expensive piano library, but it's all about what the piano sounds like in context. If the piano is vastly more important to the song than the pads or strings, consider thinning them instead. Many of Omnisphere's pads are very thick, designed to sound awesome on their own. But mixing is all about deciding which track owns which frequencies and carving out a spectral space for each instrument. For similar reasons, panning is another trick I rely on. Because the piano is usually recorded in stereo, I like to use the Pan Knob plugin from Boz Digital Labs. Again, if the piano is featured at the beginning it will be panned center. But as I add strings and synths, I'll slowly pan the piano to one side and move whatever elements compete with it to the opposite side. In a particularly dense mix, I might even split the piano track into two tracks and make the first portion stereo and the latter parts mono. As a general rule, mono tracks are easier to mix and keep them distinct.

  13. https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/apollo-18 a really nice, mellow, bittersweet song that features slide guitar. Apollo 18: the Gemini, and then the Apollo missions that ran thru the 60’s to the 70’s, was an amazing time in my mind; Apollo 18 would have traveled to the Copernicus Crater, but it never happened, and the Apollo program was retired. A bittersweet melody runs thru this song, as the ending of the Apollo program was just as bittersweet. from the new album "Elemental", available here: Bandcamp: https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/ Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/elemental/1551745206 Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VJQJM4P/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp

  31. That "longest pole in the tent" trick worked again. The bulk of my products were due to expire on 7 Dec this year, I bought and registered Nx on 25 Jan 2021, due to expire on 25 Jan 2022, yet my year of WUP just put everything out to 25 Jan 2023. Yay for me this time.

  32. I don't think the OP is trolling. He's just frustrated because the application turned out to be more complicated than he'd expected. It makes sense; moving from Garageband to Cakewalk is a big step, akin to going from making PB&J sandwiches to preparing a 7-course meal. It's sad that Matt's response was to quickly give up, because we know we could have helped him along. But I'm guessing he's a young fellow who's never taken on a long-term commitment before. He may be back after he's older and wiser. Or Garageband may be all he'll ever need. To each his own.

  35. It's handy for synth and keyboard players. I understand that guitar players already have boatloads of amp sims and pedals. 36. Just saw an ad on KVR that has Nolly for $75 and Amp Room for $69.... still too much for me...

  37. The CPU hit for AmpRoom is far and away higher than Neural when you start to add their time-based plugins which kills it for me. I have it for sale on KVR but they've undercut my price now so I guess I'll be stuck with it for a while. It does sound damn good, I'll give it that, and being able to integrate other Softube plugins is a plus but I just don't see the promise of "continuous development" that they and some other developers promise. I got it for less than this sale price so I wouldn't call it a regret purchase...yet...but I can be talked out of this software pretty easily compared to everything else i have. I really WANT to like it, but... One thing that continuously surprises me is the number of amp sims that don't sound nearly as good with stock IRs vs. 3rd party. What alien technology are OwnHammer using that IK's 4,980,469 robotically-calculated IRs aren't???? Every amp sim I own - including Amp Room but excluding Neural DSP - carry this flaw.

  38. i had similar problems with the version 4 product (Editor) but the upgrade to 5 fixed it for me (as well as the newer features). one thing that happens on occasion is the timer circle completes but the screen never seems to refresh, so i have to close the tab then re-open. this only seems to happen on long segments with a lot of detail (like if i'm converting an acoustic guitar track to midi and there's a lot of notes to analyze. time keeping wise - it's in sync for me. have not seen the double-spacebar thing except when i'm being spastic trying to get playback to stop or start when i'm using an older 32-bit plugin πŸ™‚

And that was selecting every one of my expired plugins. Some Version 9, some version 10 and 11. No version 12's

  45. Diet is always best if you can find something that works. I had inherited bursitis in my hip from my father. When it was bad, I couldn't walk more than 2 blocks without sitting, and I couldn't drive without a 'blue ice' pack behind my right hip. I went on the arthritis/bursitis diet, and now I can walk 4 miles for exercise and drive 8-10 hours without the blue ice. I'm 99.99% cured. (A couple of times per year if I stretch in an extreme direction I can feel slight discomfort where the pain used to be.) A doctor who believed in medicine as a last resort gave me the diet. If anybody wants the diet, let me know, I'll be happy to share it. Notes

  47. These have demos: Gilmour was known to use the RAMS head Muff fuzz: https://www.audiority.com/shop/big-goat/ As well as a fuzz face earlier on: https://www.audiority.com/shop/blue-face/ Echorec was fundamental in the earlier more experimental days - think Echoes: https://www.audiority.com/shop/echoes-t7e/ This effect (the Uni-Vibe) for Breathe and Any Color You Like: https://www.audiority.com/shop/tube-modulator/ Reverb is always welcome with his playing (well not always, he famously turns the effects of in certain setions) https://www.audiority.com/shop/xenoverb/ But for Free you should really try the B-Reverb ones in Cakewalk. As for the AMP, you are generally looking for something like a Big HiWatt - high headroom guitar amp when he then hits with either a Fuzz or the Tube Driver pedal. But honestly if you gave Gilmore any high headroom amp and his pedal board with a Strat and his fingers, it is going to sound like him. Since you are looking a free options, this is one of the best available: https://www.nembriniaudio.com/collections/free/products/crunck-v2-guitar-amplifier It has a very wide range of gain. This wouldn't be my go-to out of all the options on the market, but in the free category it is a very good starting place. Amplitube 5 is also a good free one, however none of the free amps with it conjure up typical gilmore amps to me. But you can demo some of the others that might. My favorite amp sims on the market are from Plugin Alliance. None emulate a HiWatt, but you might find one that works for you with the 15 day full functional demos. I like the FUCHS Overdrive Suprme for clean tones and it has a very wide range of eq options on board with the knobs and switch combinations.
