  1. We're not hiding anything. BandLab acquired the intellectual rights for Cakewalk properties, and chooses to provide it free to users. It's the same core application that was being sold as SONAR Platinum previously, no nefarious changes, just continued active development. Just because an application is free does not mean it has to be open source. We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the application, and that has value, whether the app is being sold or not.

  3. Millions of dollars of development have gone into creating this applcation that has evolved over decades now. This isn't some fly by night program. How many professional applicaitons of this level have you seen just suddenly give away the source code, which other current competitors could then copy and use without recourse for their own financial gain? Cakewalk is a huge value add to the Bandlab brand. Look at the other open source creative/technical applciations on the market...there isn't a single one I can think of that has the capabilites and refirenment that Cakewalk has. Other programs typically will have some nice technical qualities with a horrible GUI, or limited feature set, or lack integrations. Cakewalk (Sonar) had many "firsts" in the industry over its history. The fact you even bring Linix into the conversation here, on a program deeply ingrained with Windows, simply suggests you have no idea what you are talking about. You are aware that Cakewalk was a professional paid for (and every expensive program) for ~20 years, correct?

  4. I just found this link randomly while looking up reviews of a Plugin Alliance plugin. Found it on reddit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SQ7NLM9 This was the response after I finished the survey: *Voucher not shown for obvious reasons* 😛 The difference between the one month limited time $25 voucher and this one, this one has a $39 minimum instead of $32 and expires at the end of the year instead of end of the month. So if you have used your month voucher already you can use this. If you haven't, you can use the one you have then use this for the next purchase you make within the year. If they have crazy Black Friday sales this year, this may come in handy because it extends to the end of the year!

  5. As regards ST4 I am in the same boat as you abacab (ST4 MAX plus Spaceport). I don't have the other new ones and would also be interested to hear from anyone that does. I am leaning towards Alternate Keys, Synthwave and Trap at the moment. As far as I can tell the only new sound sets (not included in ST3 MAX) are as follows (I have added links to make them easy to get to): Alternate Keys -https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stalternatekeys/?pkey=stsounds-alternatekeys Clavitube - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stclavitube/?pkey=stsounds-clavitube SynthWave - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stsynthwave/?pkey=stsounds-synthwave Reggaeton - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/streggaeton/?pkey=stsounds-reggaeton Trap - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sttrap/?pkey=stsounds-trap LA Confidential (Drums) - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stlaconfidential/?pkey=stsounds-laconfidential London Grooves (Drums) - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/st3londongrooves/?pkey=st3sounds-londongrooves

  6. Give then a throw away email address and use off-line activation and keep your machine offline if you are worried about it. I understand the concern, but I'd do some actual research before jumping to conclusions on this one. You might reach the same conclusion or you might not...but you owe it to yourself to actually do the research. Cakewalk kept a lot of the same team over the years with a long track record of treating the customer better than most of the competition. One of the reasons I favored them in the first place years ago is the authorization methods they used that didn't treat the paying customer like a criminal, unlike others in the same market place.

  8. One of AZ Controller users (Bassman) has noticed no preset is loaded on CbB startup in ~2020.05 After some "magic dance" (re-installing, re-selecting, etc.) he has manged make it working. But with 26.8.0.100 (the latest update) no magic helps. I have updated 2 computers myself. On one I could get "ACT MIDI" remember selected preset (not the first time, but after several restarts and removing ctrlsurface.dat...). On the second computer I can not make any plug-in memorize selected preset ("ACT MIDI", "Generic", "AZ Controller"), even after file removal. In my own code I see there is no usual "Save" call during CbB close (it was called at least in X2...Platinum). I have also noticed 2x "Save" calls before "Load" on preset change, that is from what I remember also unusual.

  15. Cakewalk is pretty tightly bound to Windows. it has been for ages. They tried to get it running on Mac but that stumbled. I'm guessing getting it running on Linux is also a distant dream. For Linux, Mixbus is pretty great and you can use Windows plugs with it using Wine. Also Ubuntu Studio is a nice Linux Build. I love all things open source and it's an interesting question to ask why not Cake? I have some guesses but don't really know the answer.

  19. Why do you expect one of the Ministry of Propaganda's media outlets to care about you? 😆 Jokes aside, I've been very critical of them for moving away from their reason for being (allowing people to upload what they want) and are now pushing so-called mainstream TV especially late-night talkshow hosts that follow the desired narrative. I'm VERY critical of them censoring like crazy too! I've got many examples I've saved. One was a video a friend mentioned that, by the time I got on to check it out, had 23 uploads of it all censored down to two seconds. Why? It showed the actual video evidence of something that was the exact opposite of what mainstream media had said. I now download anything I want to see like that as soon as I can before the auto-bots get to it. Regarding that same video, the first mention I could find on Google (who now owns YouTube), was on page 8. This was, at the time, page 1 stuff... 🤬

  20. More great Kirby from ya Doug. A tiny crit, I'd put a high pass on the acoustic; that and the bass are creating a bit of mud in the low mids. I'd roll it up until the acoustic is well defined and the bass is free to breath; just my nickel98, take it with a grain of salt. That's part of the Kirby sound... 😉 👍 t

  23. You can't really predict much from corporate mumbo jumbo. There was a rumble that NI may build upon Maschine to make it DAW like and am I def sure they have a new Guitar Rig in the project map. I was part of beta survey. Not sure about other stuff. What might be in K13? - noire - straylight - modular icons and or some of their lame play series. not really enough to entire upgrade IMO. the rest of the stuff is just too new. but who knows. anything is possible.

"Today we learned the A string." The boy came home from his third lesson. Dad asked, "So did you learn the D string today?" "Nope. Today I had a gig."

  32. Does this for me too. Said there were like 6 products that needed to be updated. It downloaded the installers (you can see them in the Documents directory it downloads to) and it does uncompress them and then the install exits/never starts. If I unzip the download manually and install them they work just fine. I tried running IK Product Manager as admin (just in case) but that didn't change anything. The MODO Drum installer when ran manually claimed a newer version was already installed, but that was a lie. But it did let me continue the install anyway. It looks like I uninstalled Lurssen (I vaguely remember it was crashing due to conflicts with the Intel Math Libraries). So I thought I'd try using IK Product Manager to install it completely (since it wasn't on my machine). But that failed also. At least for it, the IK Product Manager UI showed an error/failure message (unlike all the failed updates which just failed silently). IK Product Manager doesn't seem to have any clean up functionality. So all those installers are now in a sub-directory in my Documents folder. And their sounds/data downloads are still time gated. And I don't see anything that can verify they are complete and installed correctly (something I know us Sampletank 4 Max users could use). I'm not going to open a ticket or work with IK to fix these problems. At this point though I've manually updated everything and I doubt there is much they could learn from me/I could get from them in any case. If I had something more specific and addressable perhaps I'd open a ticket. Though I will try any future updates they release.

  34. A friend of mine sent me tracks a few weeks ago of a song he was doing with a female singer. He wanted me to do the guitars on it. I listened and the woman had a very nice voice and sang very well. But hey, I have Melodyne I acquired recently and know how to use it, so I decided I could probably make her singing even better! Yeah! I loaded her track in Melodyne, looked at the gray rectangles, looked at all her orange blob notes. They all, without exception, where dead in the middle where they belonged. I picked up my jaw from the floor, closed Melodyne and went on composing the best guitar parts I could for it. It was a pleasure through headphones to hear that voice as intimate as it could be for hours while I composed the guitars. Great experience. Strangely enough, because of confinement, I haven't even met the singer yet. On the other hand, I do use Melodyne on my own band's male singers to help our recordings a bit. It does a great job there and is needed! 🙂

  39. Wow great combinations of plugins. The masking is very slight mostly low mids in solo voices . Nothing to worry about. Track spacer is an automatic 32 band side chain compressor -> https://www.wavesfactory.com/trackspacer/ You have to be careful and just add a little or it will mess with the overall EQ and trash your track. @1:16-1:26 the flute is softer but the guitar is still the same volume it has been. @1:39 the flute is back up and clear. You might be able to use automation on a side chain to pick those softer sections and pull the 2K-~6-8K back on the guitar and up on the flute for clarity. Not sure exactly. You could try the demo on Trackspacer. You would have to play with the EQ of a regular sidechain to find the frequencies.

  42. The Gain knob on MIDI tracks acts as a velocity trim. This isn't a design bug, it was a design decision. Whilst I don't disagree with your suggestion (which is a pretty sensible one to be honest), given that there's no MIDI equivalent of gain, your suggestion is no more valid a solution than what is currently there. In fact you could argue that since gain is applied at the beginning of the chain and volume at the end, velocity actually makes more sense than essentially having two controls over volume. Personally, I would argue that having gain control CC11 (expression) would be more suitable than either velocity or volume, but even then its behaviour is different depending on the instrument being controlled.... just as depending on the patch, velocity doesn't always make a change in timbre - or even in volume as you've pointed out!

  46. Actually, valid point, the files aren't being installed because the original FX installer did not have a provision for Portuguese or Russian. @Milton Sica and @Patrick Wichrowski, safe assumption your installs are Portuguese? We'll update this for BA shortly, but you can go ahead and grab this 2020.08 Update Installer. You can run it on top of your existing 2020.08 installation. I verified the problem and fix on my end, but please confirm. Thanks!
