  4. Thanks, I did my best to make some quality sound effects - quite happy with the resuts. Yeah, it's been around for a while but I haven't released new libraries in over a year. This is the first new library in quite some time, so I wanted to let everyone know.

  7. Introduction The 2020.05 release introduces dynamic waveform scaling when changing clip automation, offline activation, enhancements to mono plug-in support, improved mouse wheel handling, lots of automation enhancements, smoother UI transitions, engine/UI optimizations, and over 60 bug fixes, all in keeping with our goal of making CbB as reliable and enjoyable as possible. The following highlights are intended to provide an overview of the more significant changes. Please also refer to the new features section of our documentation for more detailed information on the features. Please give us feedback on this release. We hope you like it! 2020.05 Highlights Dynamic waveform scaling when changing clip automation When Display Clip Fade/Envelope Attenuation is enabled in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Display, Cakewalk dynamically updates the waveform amplitude when changing clip fades, clip gain automation and clip pan automation. The waveform display is pre clip FX Rack and only applies to clip automation, not track automation. Additionally, clip gain and pan envelopes are not applied to active Region FX clips. i.e. If you have a clip gain envelope on a Region FX clip, it will be ignored unless the effect is bypassed. The Display Clip Fade/Envelope Attenuation option is now also available as a key binding in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts (under Area: Track View). Offline activation Activation is the process by which Cakewalk validates that your software is genuine and being used in accordance with the license agreement. Cakewalk can now be activated by an online or offline process. Cakewalk will operate in Demo mode until it is activated, and saving and exporting will be disabled. A toast notification appears at the bottom of the screen to inform you if Cakewalk has not been activated yet. If your computer is connected to the internet, click the toast notification to open BandLab Assistant and activate Cakewalk. If Cakewalk is installed on a computer that is not connected to the internet, you can use offline activation as long as you have access to another computer that is connected to the internet. To use offline activation In Cakewalk, go to Help > Offline Activation > Export Activation Request to open the Save activation request dialog box. Select the folder you want to save the activation request file to, then click Save. Cakewalk saves a Activation request.crq file. This file is encrypted and machine-specific, and can only be used to activate Cakewalk on the machine that was originally used to create the Activation request.crq file. By default, Cakewalk appends a timestamp to the file name, using the following format: <Month><Day><Year>_<Hour><Minute>. For example: 052120_1157Activation request.crq. Copy the Activation request.crq file to removable media, such as a USB flash drive, that you can transfer to another computer that is connected to the internet. Using an online computer, open BandLab Assistant and sign in with your BandLab ID and password. Click the Apps tab. Under Cakewalk by BandLab, click the drop-down arrow next to the Open button, then click Process Offline Activation Request. If activation is granted, BandLab Assistant generates an Activation response.dat file. Copy the Activation response.dat file to removable media that you can transfer back to your offline Cakewalk computer. In Cakewalk, go to Help > Offline Activation > Import Activation Response to open the Import activation response dialog box. Select the Activation response.dat file and click Open. If the response file is valid, Cakewalk is activated. Early Access toast notification Early Access availability is checked whenever normal updates are checked, and a toast notification appears if an Early Access build is available. The Early Access Program provides pre-release versions of Cakewalk to the public for general testing and issue reporting. We provide Early Access builds to help us get better real world test coverage from users, which is useful to improve the reliability and quality of our releases. Participation is 100% voluntary. Please read this topic to learn more about the program. Enhancements Mono plug-in support changes This release greatly improves the FX Rack handling with respect to mixing and matching mono/stereo plug-ins. These improvements are across the board and work in track/bus/clip FX Racks, FX chains and the ProChannel. These changes apply primarily to compatibility with pure mono plug-ins (mono-in, mono-out). Mono in stereo out plugin compatibility will be addressed in a future update. Bypassing or removing plug-ins in an FX Rack, Rack bypass or global FX bypass operations will now revert any mono/stereo interleave changes caused by the plug-in, and recalculate delay compensation properly. Changing the mono/stereo interleave from the track strip button now updates the FX Rack routing correctly (Note: this is dependent on whether the ProChannel bin is pre FX Rack and if it contains mono plug-ins). Pitch shifted audio and distortion were symptoms of issues that are fixed in this release. This could occur under multiple scenarios, such as moving plug-ins, bypassing, deleting or undoing. Improved mouse wheel handling Console view vertical scrolling via mouse wheel is less prone to inadvertently adjusting parameter values if there is a brief pause during the scroll gesture (for example, while vertically scrolling with the mouse wheel, suddenly it starts scrolling the volume slider instead). The internal timer that waits for inactivity before treating the next mouse wheel movement as a new operation has been increased from 500ms to 1,000ms. This ensures that the current scroll operation doesn't change mid-gesture. In the Console view, tooltips dynamically show values when changing parameters via mouse wheel. FX Racks for tracks, buses and clips can be scrolled via mouse wheel. Increased contrast of ghosted envelopes The color contrast of ghosted automation envelopes has been increased, making them easier to see against the dark Clips pane background when Automation Lanes are collapsed. Clicking on the bus pane now automatically sets the bus focus strip This facilitates copying and pasting bus envelopes by clicking and pasting. Scrollable Clip FX Rack in Inspector Clip FX Racks in Inspector now display up to 10 plug-ins and are scrollable using both mouse wheel and the scroll bar. Improved support for recording automation via numeric input When recording automation, envelope nodes can now be recorded by typing a value in the pop-up edit controls in the Inspector, Console view, Track view, ProChannel EQ, and EQ fly-out module. The numeric input will be recorded as a Jump during automation recording. To show the numeric input pop-up, give focus to a control or its value display, then press F2, or double-click the value display. Improved recording automation of synth parameters Multiple synth parameters can be recorded in a single record pass and all envelopes are now retained. While loop recording, in order to avoid clutter the automation preview only shows the last loop record pass. All recording envelopes will be displayed when you stop playback. Improved support for copying and pasting automation envelopes Automation envelopes can now be easily copied and pasted from tracks to buses and vice versa. To copy track automation to a bus, first select and copy the envelope from the track, then click on the target bus or lane and paste. You can also copy and paste bus automation to tracks the same way. Moving or copying arrangement sections now properly manages copying and pasting the associated bus and synth automation envelopes. Bus delete stability improvements Bus deletion can now be performed while the transport is rolling without stopping the audio engine. Also an intermittent crash and app shutdown on undoing bus deletion was solved. Rename Clip key binding The Rename Clip command is now available as a key binding in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts (under Area: Track View). Support for .midi MIDI File extension In addition to .mid, the .midi file extension is now supported for reading. Track view's View and Options menu settings persist globally The Track View’s View and Options menu items now persist globally instead of being stored within screensets. Build numbers uses 3 digits Due to how BandLab Assistant compares versions, the Cakewalk installer now uses three digits for the build number to allow updates to work correctly. Update toast notifications throttled by a period of one day Automatic display of update toast notifications now only appears once daily. Optimizations Flicker free UI transitions when opening projects or switching between projects. Reduced excessive messaging load in the UI. This speeds up operations like scrolling and zooming in larger projects with console view and track view visible. Meters have better general performance while scrolling When using workspaces, projects now open with the correct initial UI layout, rather than opening with the project layout and then visibly switching to the workspace layout. This is faster and prevents unwanted flicker. Many improvements and optimizations for editing mono effects in FX Racks Improvements to drag and drop between clip and track FX racks Solved multithreading race condition leading to latency when using Aggressive thread scheduling model Meters to have better general performance while scrolling Latest release notes are here. 8. I saw this recommended by PluginGuru. It's a plugin that maps the Kicks, Snares, Hats, Cymbals and Toms of a lot of vintage drum machines into GM. It is offered free but the developer does ask for a donation of $5. TPG is going to show how to use it with Unify in today's livestream. But obviously this could be a lot of fun with any MIDI files, and some come with Unify. I love the way this has little images of the original units--a nice touch. Most of these instruments had more sounds, but it's still a very cool thing for free. Apparently there was a successful Kontakt version of this before. You can get this new VST/AU library HERE The Kontakt one is still available HERE Requires Full Kontakt The library contains samples of about 150 old, vintage, obscure, rare and hard to find drum machines. What has been done: Each kit has been mapped in a General Midi format (more or less, many old drum machines only have 4-5 sounds) Each kit has been divided into 5 groups: Kicks, Snares, Hats, Cymbals and Toms Each Group has custom controls for tuning, panning and volume Each kit has custom graphics

  13. To continue the story of my brother the programmer's Korg MS 2000... That guy was interested in buying it for his son, so my brother dug it out of the closet and hooked it up, and it didn't work! ☹️ While he and I scoured the manual for the reason why it wouldn't work, time passed and the guy bought something else. Meanwhile, the brother discovered that he had the polarity wrong on his after-market power supply, switched it to the correct position and now it works. But he's having fun with it now and probably won't consider selling it until he gets bored with it again.

  18. Yes, he has sampled a large number of instruments for other companies like Steinberg, Toontrack, Nord Keyboard, XLN Audio, Reason Studios and Kurzweil. He has e.g. sampled all four instruments in XLN Audio’s Addictive Keys series, as well as the Classic Electric Wurlitzer 200A, Grand Piano, Retro Electrics and Upright Piano in Toontrack’s EZ Keys series, to name but a few.

  20. A few things good to know about buying AS VSTi: - wait for deal, currently there is not the best time to buy basses, as there are deals for guitar. - every time they are releasing new instrument they are making deal for the same type so with releasing new bass or bigger update they will do it again - unfortunately - and this is a little pain - to get a fat deal you would need to buy more at once as they are discounted much more then. For instance price for 4 electric basses bought separately currently would be 4*$119=$476 but buying them all in 1 order give price $308. So if they were in sale it would be even better - there are also extensions for Jazz bass and Precision bass but it is the best to skip them because of 2 reasons: they are not doing any discount to whole price so anytime price for an extension is added as full price to sum and there is a chance at one point they will integrate them into VSTis with no additional cost (as they did for electric guitars)

  25. I have been devouring the Mix with the Masters videos the last few months and they are worth every single penny. Specifically, the amount of knowledge I've gained from CLA alone was worth the price. Last week I paid extra and got a 7 hour webinar with CLA and only 15 other participants. He taught us a ton and worked hard to make sure we enjoyed it. He also critiqued a mix of each of ours - that was FANTASTIC! Anyway, if you've got some time on your hands and want to up your mixing game, I recommend this site 100%!

  26. It has nothing to do with panes. The bus view is much simpler since it has no clip data to deal with. Many people prefer having a separation between tracks and buses so this isn't likely to change. If you want to work in one pane with similar functionality to buses, use aux tracks.

  27. You can't have version 4 & 5 installed at the same time. As soon as you install version 5, it removes version 4 and deactivates your v4 license. It actually forced me to remove my v4 license from my iLok account before activating the v5 one. In saying that, once installed & activated, it was pretty smooth and ran in CbB without issue. Also, there's no actual difference in the Essential vs Editor vs Studio program. It's the same program, but activates the various features based on your license. Oh - and remember... Melodyne 5 does not work in Window 7.

  31. Yes you can certainly do this. Its as simple as selecting source category = tracks. You don't need to change any of the bus enables since when you are bouncing with source as tracks anything downstream from the track is automatically disengaged. See the settings in the picture. There is no way for the sends on the original track to affect the newly bounced track. Perhaps what you are hearing is confusing you. Watch the track meters and they should be unaffected.

  36. Thanks Grem. I like what you came up with there 👍 I have had a play with Obelisk now and like what it does. The keyswitch to change scales is useful. I have recently been experimenting with using a number of these type of plugins together e.g. Scaler 2 into Chord Potion, so would be interesting to add Obelisk into the mix.

  44. Thanks Mathew, I was referring just to the Ashampoo bundle, the topic of this thread, not Humble Bundles in general. I've clarified my post by inserting the words " these Ashampoo" in my post. I have used Humble Bundle a number of times and got great programs from it. So far, in this bundle, I've looked at these two: Win Optimizer 18 I'm not normally into these sorts of windows optimizing programs and didn't think I would like it. It's great. There are about 37 separate modules for addressing things like dead registry entries and files, duplicate files, resource hogs etc, deleting garbage, managing services etc. It does a really good job making it easy. My laptop was playing up a bit because the 128gig "C" drive was full to red. I couldn't find where all the big files were. I was putting off addressing the problem because it was an elusive one. Using this, I found everything and reclaimed a massive 60gig in a very short time, also cleaned everything up and fully deleted the half deleted rubbish on my system and removed their registry keys. Now the laptop is back to speedy again. It's also a nice psychological feeling, knowing your computer has had a decent clean. This program will be staying on my laptop. PDF Pro 2 A very nice PDF reader and editor all in one that also installs a virtual PDF printer to print to PDF from any application. Has a thin menu at the top so doesn't get in the way of the document. I previously had 3 PDF freeware software programs on my computer to cover the things that I need from a PDF reader/editor application (and still wasn't getting everything I need). I've also used professional ones like Nitro and Foxit pro but I didn't like them much. I use a lot of PDF production in creating various documents for circulation. All the other PDF programs have now been deleted and I have all the functionality I need from the PDF Pro 2. This will be staying on my laptop. I am pleased I got the bundle just from these 2 programs alone. I'm a bit surprised because I've never looked at Ashampoo products before, I assumed they were for beginners but these 2 are definitely not entry level, you can use them more simply or go deeper. I'll look at the others.

  45. Thanks for listening. What I usually do is bounce down the tracks to a stereo master - making sure I'm not pushing the master fader levels too hard. I then used Ozone 9 on this one on the stereo track - which adds a bit of punch and increases the gain a bit. I go by ear, so there's no definite level I shoot for. Since I'm doing albums, I try to make sure all the songs are close regarding the volume.
