  2. Maybe it's just me, but backing tracks are for practicing improvisation, so they're really not meant to be chopping up and making a whole new song out of. 😷

  4. Haha! No matter how many people dislike these amp sims, tone like this inspires me to play for hours and hours. The only thing that turns me off is the intro price. I'll wait for a sale and get these ASAP.

  9. I can confirm @Helos Bonos and @User 905133 experience with zooming out with Alt-Mouse Wheel (or ALT-Touchpad 2 finger scrolling on a laptop) making extreme jumps. I have always been similarly frustrated by it. In general it is a jumpy scroll, nothing like the s m o o t h scrolling shown in the video mentioned above. I my video here you see me starting to zoom with ALT-wheel. I am moving very slowly and smoothly with no halts on my part. The zoom-out process, however, simply jumps first from a view of about 10 measures width, then to 15, then to 30, then full zoom-out to over 300 bars width. 3 distinct jumps, not smooth at all. 😞

  11. Sorry didn't realize my input was necessary. If you already have the Tiny Terror, be it in the Collection or purchasing it a la carte, you already have it so it won't be added again to your account.

  12. Yup, not disagreeing with you there. Just wanted to point out the draconian terms, considering that these are, IMO, comparable to loops to some extent.

  13. I don't use the PRV and I don't zoom via mousewheel and mousewheel + Alt, but FWIW here are my results from playing around a few hours ago: Respectively, these are 0, 1, 2, and 3 single mousewheel + alt clicks. At least on my PC the scaling is not linear. I do not use this and have no idea what Windows, mouse driver, or Cakewalk settings impact the relationships between the zoom and the PRV. I did notice that with the mousewheel + alt clicks, the zoom widget also showed more of a change from 0 to 1 than for later clicks. Maybe this will help?

  14. Yes, it does. Anything you add becomes a "derivative" work. US Copyright law is very clear on this. The original copyright holder is also the copyright holder of the derivative work; simples! Don't use the tracks, if you don't like the terms... Best advice! t

  21. CbB always records the signal at a track's input. Any time one wants to record a signal affected by plug-ins, the track containing the plug-ins needs to be routed to an aux track or another track using a patch point. The wet signal may be record in this track. Try this,,, 1. Add Sonitus Gate in the FX rack on the mic track 2. Click the Audio button on the Sonitus UI changing it to Duck 3. Enable input echo on the mic track 4. Route the mic track output to a new aux track 5. Record enable the aux track 6. Create a send on the music track to the Sonitus:fx Gate (Side Input) 7. Enable input echo on the music track Now any time signal hits the music track, the aux track will be muted. Anytime this method of recording a wet signal is used, it is a good idea to record the dry track too, just in case. May need to experiment with the hold and release times to make sure the gate does not open with quite parts of the music.

  22. I think Steinberg wouldn't make such a big deal on their website about the download version of Halion Sonic SE not coming with any extra content if there weren't a version somewhere on dvd that does come with extra content. Or maybe they're just making sure people don't get it mixed up with Kontakt Player and SampleTank and sforzando, all of which burden the people who download them with dozens of demo instruments. If that's the goal, maybe they could use some good ol' advertising slogans to help them stand out from the competition, to turn potential customers on to the benefit of downloading and installing their download manager and their licensing server and then downloading and installing and registering their virtual instrument at which point they will have a sample player with no samples. (I still haven't received any license code for the #stayhomeandwait promotion either) "Download Halion Sonic SE now and find out why it's the favorite free sample player of people with metered Internet service." "Halion Sonic SE by Steinberg. No stutter in your playback, no clutter in your download folder." "When space on your SSD is at a premium, the choice is clear: Halion Sonic SE." "Does your free sampler keep you up at night worrying how a company can remain solvent giving things away? For 'sound' sleep, the doctors at Steinberg prescribe Halion Sonic SE." "Shhhteinberg!"

  24. Craig Anderton has composed two TTS-1 articles for Sound On Sound magazine. The first appeared in the June, 2005 edition and the second appeared in the January, 2019 edition. +++ June, 2005 +++ and +++ January, 2019 +++ They are a good refresher course. I purchased the pdf files for both.

  25. I love the new arranger feature. I watched the Creative Sauce arranger video. It was worth watching to see Mike acting like a clown playing that radio demo or whatever it was. I have a unique ability to take something that's supposed to be simple and mucking it up in some way. I was sliding things around in the arranger and my parts were all cut up and moved around in bad ways. I almost wore out CTRL+Z to the point that Microsoft is ready to levy a fee on me for over use.I did it so much that now when I sleep at night instead of ZZZZZZZzzzzzzz, it's CTRL+ZZZzzzzzzzzzz. Once I learn what not to do I'll be ok. That might be awhile. Admittedly, I didn't read the directions yet. That usually takes the fun out of the whole process.

  26. Xpand!2 is a great source of sounds... it's pretty old now, but great sounds nonetheless. Soundwise it definitely has the edge on TTS-1, but Xpand!2 is not GM so you'll have to manually remap your sounds if you're using GM MIDI files. As a synth, the editing options are limited... but then they're pretty limited in TTS-1 too. And Xpand!2 has way more sounds to choose from. Plugin boutique are doing it for £9.99 / $12.44 at the moment which is a steal for that price: https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/1560 Once you have one AIR synth, you can upgrade to the complete bundle for less than $75, which is an awesome set of VSTi's - a sampler, drum vsti, organ & a few more synths: https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/58-Inst-Bundle/2294-AIR-Instrument-Expansion-Pack-3-COMPLETE-UPGRADE-

  27. Completely disagree with the OP In 20+ yrs of using Cakewalk in one form or another I think the ONLY bundled VST / VSTi plugin(s) that was worth my while was Z3TA+ and the 2nd version ....the rest was just bloatware to me. Tried briefly and then discarded. Personally when I want to find the best free plugins ( or paid ) for a particular task, l just Google it and see what options there are. I can't say I've ever used anything on your list because they don't really suit the way I work. Or I already have something similar that works for me. Whilst I've a ton of paid for stuff I've acquired over the years I'm not knocking the free stuff as some of it is great. I love OTT and ADSR Sample Manager and Zebralette But I don't particularly want or need anything off your list. Because it's your list. And I'm not you . And how I make music is not the same as how you make music. And why I write music and where it ends may be completely different to what you do with yours. I say let the Devs concentrate on the DAW. Keep in the installer lean and mean. And let the users find their own free or paid for stuff that fits the the music they make and how they work. It's a big world out there.

  28. I've been an IT professional for over 25 years. AMD are no worse than Intel from a reliability standpoint. We've had both AMD and Intel PCs that have been "lemons" in the past. Never has the problem been due to the brand of CPU. Usually either a hardware fault somewhere else, or a driver or software conflict. We have consumer protection laws where I live and a problem like this, by law, must be rectified within the "expected lifespan" of the device, regardless of the warranty offered by the manufacturer.

  34. Good catch! By default, the parts in a blank SampleTank 4 parts view are assigned consecutively to MIDI channels 1-16, where in the native Syntronik UI, the parts are all assigned to "omni". So when loading the preset Syntronic multis from within SampleTank 4, the multi parts all seem to load with consecutive MIDI channels (1, 2, 3, 4,etc.) assigned, which means only the first part on MIDI channel 1 will respond, until you set all parts to channel 1. This only seems to be a programming oversight for ST4 with the preset Syntronic multis, as I checked some of the other preset multis for ST4 , which had all parts assigned correctly to channel 1 when loaded. The native Syntronic UI does have preset multis, but they appear in a different menu from the main browser in the Syntronik UI. Look for the dropdown menu within the multi view. The main browser only offers single patches, but does have the building blocks for creating your own multi velocity layers.

  36. I think I remembered the real problem I was having with zooming. It's zooming on the piano roll. I go from this view: To this view: In ONE tick of my scroll wheel. That MIDI controller looks like a nice toy but since I'm limited on desk space and on monetary funds, I think that $200 might be better spent toward a Presonus license. It's looking better and better with every session.

  37. You make good points, but a.) I lean way more toward finding the instruments I need rather than the instruments CbB might bundle, and b.) Haha, SONAR/Cakewalk has been around much longer than the three you mention, and is already more sophisticated and powerful than most competing DAWs, so it's "huge" enough for me.

  38. Thanks for the input, scook. Rant on. This has really played with my head Hmmmm. Unfortunately after I tried that, CW won't even start OOOOOKAYY. I tried 4-5 times, and just tried again up she comes! It's playing with me. I had an instrument in Dimentia Pro and it could not find its sample. (???) AAAAARGGH! I still had the same multisample missing message, but the file loaded. Talk about a rat in a maze. Maybe the opening safe mode did something. Anyway. Thanks for the support. Realy appreciate it from both of you.

  39. I've seen auto feedback detection do something like this in other apps (where I accidentally created an infinite and increasing loop) but I haven't seen this in Sonar. Any chance there was a feedback loop?

  40. Oh no that's not what I'm saying. I really like this DAW so much that I believe it to be a competitor with all the huge DAWS such as FL studio, Ableton and Logic. I know that making plugins is hard that is why I stated it in my initially then gave suggestions of free plugins. My reasoning was that a DAW which is free contacting a company which makes free DAWS makes sense, I just want Cakewalk to me more user friendly for beginners and not to underrate this DAW. Because when DAWS in discussion, in youtube where beginners go to, videos view Cakewalk as a "free" DAW nothing else. I know Cakewalk used to paid for but now it is not brought into the discussion at all in the best DAW unless saying that if you are broke get Cakewalk it will get you from point A to point B and if you are not broke which get fl studio, ableton or logic. Cakewalk also doesn't have as much tutorials and information as other DAWS but it has the potential to. I understand it's sounds like I am not being greatful but there is potential for cakewalk to be a way bigger community in the future because it now has Bandlab. That is all I'm saying. And I honestly did not know how hard it would have been for a company who is already giving the vst away to help Cakewalk who is giving a DAW away. I'm just thinking big and just seeing a huge opportunity.

  43. I love the Drum Replacer feature within Sonar, but it lacks a few tweaks which would make it much more powerful (For me at least) and easier to use. Would it be possible for the following features please? Manual Input: The ability to directly input the Filter and Range manually. Currently, these knobs only go up an down incrementally. Sometimes I need to fine tune (the kick for example), but I cannot do this because the Range knob jumps from 54 to 68 and I need to fine tune this to around 64. Time Ruler: It would be really handy to have a Time Ruler (Like the Piano Roll) following the project time signature. This would be helpful for getting the kick and snare on the actual beat and in time. Currently, it is more a guessing game to where they should go and I always have to go in a fix in the Piano roll later. Also, it would be great to have Snap to grid as well. Remember Settings. It would also be nice to remember the Filter and Range settings for the Kick, Snare and Tom while working with different clips. I generally spilt a Track into Clips and work on them separately, but switching between clips I lose the previous setting and have to continually redial them in. It would be handy and increase work flow if Drum Replacer remembered my previous settings in a session. Dry and Wet: When Sliding between Dry and Wet, when you get to around 50% the volume of both the Sample and Drum Replacer drop to a point where I have to reach for the volume control on my monitors to dial it up. Would it be possible to change this to have constant volume when moving this slider between Dry and Wet?

  45. I posted about my new budget 12 core Ryzen based system last month. All going well, it's powerful and runs with no DPC latency issues. It wasn't a purpose built DAW but a PC from an online system builder that based not far from me ( you know..just in case I need to call in ! ) You can check the DAWbench results on Scan audio, they are indeed kicking Intel's butt in the power / performance stakes at all price points for content creation It's the first AMD CPU I've ever had actually, and like @RobertWS says....you wouldn't know it unless you looked under the hood

  46. Is there anyone who is writing SFZ code using Visual Studio Code? With this stay at home order I see an opportunity to try my hand at this. I kinow NOTHING about coding, but I would like to experiment w/ the many early SFZ and SF2 files I have, but don't use. EMU Proteus 2 etc. OR, a list of places that have tutorials going from simple to complex coding. The latter are sorely missing w/ youtube. The majority I found tend to assume you are a knowledgeable coder. Thanks Willard

  47. Sfz takes no special editor. They are text files with tags similar in appearance to XML. Most of the sfz files I have created were based on existing files and the relevant chapters in Simon Cann's "Cakewalk Synthesizers." Thousands of sfz files were included in SONAR. CbB still includes the sfz-based Studio Instruments. There are quite a few threads in the old forum on the subject. Here is a link that may be helpful https://sfzformat.com/ SF2 is a completely different beast.
