  1. I've been complaining and ranting a lot on here with every problem I encounter but while there are many good things I like about Cakewalk, one thing I would like to mention is how great this support forum is!!! Man, it is so nice to know that when you post a problem, there are answers and great help not long after. Thank you guys!

  3. I just discovered this company today and put a very quick livestream together to take a listen. It is a very nice Upright Piano sample library for HALion, HALionSonic and the FREE HalionSonic SE player. Take a look: http://sonicatoms.com/novel-piano/

  4. Watched part of this(about15-20 minutes of part 1), and noted several items where they are not exactly being forthright. This is their comparison of COVID-19 to the flu, that confining health people to their homes has never happened before and the status of Sweden and Norway. He stated COVID-19 is very much like the flu and the death rate is small (lots of cases, small number of deaths). He emphasized that flu deaths in 2017 were at about 45-50K in the US. As of this morning (April 26 at 7:31 am) John Hopkins University COVID-19 dashboard (https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6) is reporting 53,934 deaths in the US. This is since they first starting tracking on January 21, 2020. If we extrapolate the COVID-19 deaths from the first three months for an entire year (multiply the first 3 month totals by 4), we find a projected yearly death total of 215,736. That would make COVID-19 the third leading cause of death in the US, following heart disease (647,457) and cancer (599,108) (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/leading-causes-of-death.htm). Influenza is at number 8 (55,672 in 2017) which COVID-19 will soon pass. COVID-19 is not influenza. He also talked about Sweden which has not done any type of lock down and their case rate. A review of their daily reported cases on the John Hopkins site is showing that the trend for daily number of cases in Sweden is still rising (see below) This is significantly different from what we are seeing in Norway where the trend of daily cases is on the decline (see below). So we won't really know the difference between Sweden and Norway as it is simply too soon to tell. Could Norway see a spike? It's possible. Could Sweden flatten out after today? It may happen. The fact is we don't know yet. This is also the issue with the models being used. Any model makes assumptions. And in the early days of COVID-19 we knew even far less than we know today. As we get more data we can make better decisions and better models. It doesn't mean anybody did anything wrong. It does mean that we are learning. He also said that we have never before locked down society like we are doing today. That is not true either. If you research the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918 you will see they did the exact same type of social distancing and lock downs. And they struggled with the same issues of reopening society. Baltimore did it too soon and the second wave death toll was far worse than the initial (https://www.baltimoresun.com/opinion/editorial/bs-ed-0319-1918-flu-baltimore-20200318-cu7jhknfczekfezf5kuk5g7d5q-story.html and https://www.influenzaarchive.org/cities/city-baltimore.html) Now, there is a lot of what he stated that is true. There is much to be said about the level of lock down that has occurred in the US and elsewhere. There is much truth in that people with other healthcare conditions are not being seen and that is worrisome. The extended economic shutdown is causing negative health consequences among a number of people and that should not be ignored. However, I think he was way off base trying to compare it to the flu. And its not just me. There were two recent studies that were released that compared COVID-19 to the flu, and both studies have been called into question (https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/04/experts-demolish-studies-suggesting-covid-19-is-no-worse-than-flu/). I think the comparison between Sweden and Norway is still playing out and that we need to watch what happens in both countries. To say this has never happened before is disingenuous.

  5. Same here, I went shopping about 6 weeks ago and must have tried out about 35 guitars. After I finished I thought about the Covid-19 thing. What if others had been playing those guitars with the disease. I'm going again soon but will take hand sanitizer next time. I was looking at Artcore or Epiphone but tried others as well including the more expensive Gibson. At the end of the day for me, I was most impressed with the Gretsch models at least as far as playability and sound. I wasn't expecting that as I had never tried them. I want one like this but in a Gretsch model:

  6. We're pleased to announce the 2020.04 release, our biggest release to date which also celebrates two years of active Cakewalk by BandLab development! This release introduces an exciting non-linear Arranger Track feature that is very useful for song creation and creative experimentation. Also included are many other significant feature improvements such as ProChannel module presets, instrument track improvements and many bug fixes, all in keeping with our goal of making CbB as reliable and enjoyable as possible. Thanks, The Bakers For new feature details, see New Features. Should you need to revert to the 2020.01 release, you can download the Cakewalk 2020.01 Rollback installer. 2020.04 Features & Enhancements Behavior changes Add Track menu behavior change: The behavior of the Track(s) counter has changed when inserting a multi-timbral soft synth via the Add Track menu. When Instrument Track Per Output or Split Instrument Track is selected, the Track(s) counter now specifies how many Instrument output tracks to create instead of how many unique instances of the synth to create. Changes to Delete Track: CTRL+DELETE deletes tracks. Delete Track only deletes the focused track if the focused track is not also selected. When a combination of tracks and track folders are selected, the context menu displays Delete Selected Tracks and Folders. Enable/Disable Enhanced Keyboard Editing Mode shortcut is unassigned by default. The default keyboard shortcut (0 on the numeric keypad) to enable/disable Enhanced Keyboard Editing Mode has been removed. To enable/disable Enhanced Keyboard Editing Mode, go to Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts and assign Enhanced Keyboard Editing to an unused keyboard shortcut. Bypass All Audio Effects shortcut is unassigned by default. The default keyboard shortcut (E) to bypass all audio effects has been removed. To bypass all audio effect, do one of the following: Go to Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts and assign Bypass All Audio Effects to an unused keyboard shortcut. Click the Bypass all Effects button in the Control Barโ€™s Mix module. Horizontal zooming no longer centers Now Time. When zooming with the mouse wheel or CTRL+LEFT/RIGHT ARROW shortcuts, if the Now Time is currently within view, its position will be retained while zooming. If the Now Time is not present in the view, the zoom behavior is unchanged. CTRL+ALT+SPACEBAR is assigned to Preview current arrangement from the Now Time, and no longer plays the next event in the Event List view. Arranger Track Overview The Arranger track is an arrangement tool that provides several workflow benefits: Easily rearrange sections of the entire project as one unit instead of moving individual clips. For example, instantly swap the positions of the first and second chorus for all tracks, or copy the first verse in order to double its duration. Experiment with different song structures in a non-destructive and non-linear manner. For example, does your song work best in AABA, ABAB, or ABAC song form? Define time range sections and sequence them in any order without destructively moving any clip data. You can even save multiple arrangements within each project. Create a color coded overview of the song structure, and use the Arranger Inspector to quickly navigate around the project and jump to song sections. Create arbitrary song sections anywhere on the project timeline, then later string them together for seamless playback. Sections provide an additional way to perform time based selections and edits of the project. Create an unlimited number of arrangements per project, which can all be exported simultaneously. Arranger functionality is distributed across two views: Arranger track. To show or hide the Arranger track, click the Track view View menu and choose Arranger Track Show/Hide, or press A. The Arranger track timeline shows all defined sections. You can drag to create and rearrange sections, then freely move them along the timeline. Any changes in the Arranger timeline are immediately reflected in the Arranger Inspectorโ€™s Sections list, and vice versa. Arranger Inspector. To show/hide the Arranger Inspector, click the Show/Hide Arranger button at the top of the Inspector pane, or press ALT+SHIFT+I. An arrangement is comprised of Sections, each spanning a unique time range. Other section properties include name and color, to clearly delineate regions of time and track content by musical function. Important: By default, clicking an Arranger section also selects underlying track events. Clicking again deselects track events, while retaining selection of the section. This behavior allows you to easily determine whether or not track events are included in section edit operations. Note that the selection highlight in the Clips pane indicates selected track events. To disable automatic selection of track events when selecting sections, click the Track view Options menu and disable Select Events with Sections. Arranger Inspector Sections are the building blocks that make up the song. Each section defines a time range in the project, such as Intro, Verse, Chorus, etc. An arrangement is an ordered set of sections. You can sort the sections in any order to define the playback order. To do so, drag the sections from the Sections area down to the Arrangements area in the Arranger Inspector. The Sections area lists all the arranger sections defined in the projectโ€™s timeline, from which a custom arrangement can be built. The order of the sections reflect the order in which they appear in the timeline. The Sections list provides an additional way to edit time based selections of the project. Any operation performed in the Sections list is immediately reflected in the project/timeline, and vice versa. To copy all sections to the current arrangement, click the Add All Sections to Arrangement button . If one or more sections are selected, only the selected sections will be copied. The Arrangements area allows you to sequence sections in a non-linear manner without destructively moving any clip data, regardless of which order they appear in the projectโ€™s timeline. Defining sections of your song To use the Arranger track, you must first define time range sections such as Intro, Verse, Chorus, etc. Sections can be of any duration, but it is common to start/end them at measure boundaries. New sections can be created by any of the following means: Draw a range within the Arranger track timeline (below the time ruler). Double-click a blank area in the Arranger track. The new section duration is inherited from the last clicked section. Right-click in the Arranger track timeline and select Insert Section Here, Insert Section at Now Time, Span Sections, or From Selection. Click the Add Section button in the Arranger Inspector or Arranger track. Editing sections Drag sections to move them around on the timeline. Drag a section edge to resize the section. Right-click a section to access edit options. Converting markers to sections To convert markers to sections, make a time selection in the time ruler that spans the text markers, then right-click in the time ruler and select Create Sections from Markers. Creating a custom arrangement Sections can be sequenced in any order to create arrangements, without affecting project data. The sections donโ€™t have to live on the project timeline in any specific location or order, because the arrangement determines in which order they are played back. To define the section playback order, drag sections from the Sections list down to the Arrangements list. You can also drag sections directly from the Arranger track. Previewing an arrangement To play the current arrangement, click the Preview button or press ALT+SPACEBAR. During Arranger preview, the main transport Play button shows a small โ€œAโ€ icon to indicate it is playing back an arrangement instead of following the projectโ€™s linear timeline, and the active section shows a progress indicator. Committing an arrangement To (destructively) render the current arrangement to the projectโ€™s timeline, click the Commit Arrangement to Project button . Exporting arrangements You can export one or more arrangements without first having to render it to the timeline. To do so, click the Arrangements menu and select Export as Audio. ProChannel module presets In addition to saving presets of the entire ProChannel chain (all modules), you can also save and load presets of individual modules. The per module preset controls are located on the left side of each module header bar. To select a module preset Click the moduleโ€™s category type icon to open the preset menu, then select the desired preset. The category type icon tooltip shows the name of the selected preset. To save a module preset Adjust the ProChannel module controls to the desired settings. Click the moduleโ€™s category type icon to open the preset menu, then select Save Preset. Type a name in the Save Preset dialog box, then click OK. To select the next preset To select the next preset, do one of the following: Click the Next Preset button . Hold down the CTRL key and click the moduleโ€™s category type icon. To select the previous preset To select the previous preset, do one of the following: Click the Previous Preset button . Hold down CTRL+SHIFT and click the moduleโ€™s category type icon. To delete a module preset Click the moduleโ€™s category type icon to open the preset menu, then select the preset you want to delete. Click the moduleโ€™s category type icon to open the preset menu again, then select Delete Preset. Copy/paste settings between ProChannel modules You can copy settings from any ProChannel module and paste the settings to any other instance of the same module. on any track or bus. There are two ways to copy/paste settings between identical modules: Drag and drop In the Console view, show the ProChannel for both the track/bus you want to copy from, and the track/bus you want to paste into. Hold down the CTRL key, and drag from the source moduleโ€™s header bar (i.e., the module title) to the target module. The source and target ProChannel modules must be identical. Note: If the target module has not been enabled/initialized yet, it will automatically become enabled after pasting. However, if the target modules has been manually disabled, then it will remain disabled after pasting. Copy/Paste menu commands Click the source moduleโ€™s category type icon to open its preset menu, then select Copy Settings. Click the target moduleโ€™s category type icon to open its preset menu, then select Paste Settings. Append per-output Instrument tracks When you insert a multi-timbral soft synth, you can specify how many Instrument output tracks to create, up to the maximum supported by the synth. If you do not initially create the maximum number of available output tracks, you can later add additional tracks on demand from the Synth Rack view. To do so, do one of the following: Right-click the instrument in the Synth Rack (Views > Synth Rack View) and select Append Instrument Track. Right-click the instrument track strip in the Track view and select Append Instrument Track. Note: If you originally created used per-output Instrument tracks for that synth, then Cakewalk will create another per-output instrument track. If originally created split instrument tracks, then Cakewalk will create another split instrument track. Misc. enhancements App has been updated for all languages. The Display Clip Fade Attenuation option in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Display is now available as a key binding. 11. Please fix the abhorrent Waves plugin Mono-Stereo bug. I'll re-open Cakewalk once I see this is fixed. I have too many projects I made in Sonar that make use of mono->stereo plugins. (Ya know.. like adding a chorus to a vocal... or delay to a guitar.. ) For those curious, it seems any Waves plugins that operate on a mono signal and output stereo now just output mono. It's apparently a known issue that's been around since late last year. Automation or unit tests would catch this sort of a regression. Waves is a very popular plugin vendor and mono to stereo plugins are quite common. FIX THIS!

  17. Screensets are only applicable to that project. Open a different project and they are gone. Screensets are meant to be a quick-fix. You find you are swapping back and forth between 2 views while doing a particular task? And in 30 minutes when you are finished with that task the views become redundant? Use screensets. To save a screenset switch to another one. So, select Screenset 1. Set up your view. Click Screenset 2. Screenset 1 gets saved. Set up Screenset 2. Select Screenset 1. Screenset 2 gets saved. Now you can switch back and forth between the 2 views to your heart's content. And when you have finished that task you will never use those screensets again. Like strangers you bump into at the pub. While chatting you remember their names and which one has just taken his fog to the vet. The moment you walk out the door on your way home you forget them. You will never see them again. Screensets. But... While tracking do you ALWAYS want the Track Inspector closed, the Browser open? Define a Workspace called Tracking that is set up that way. Workspaces apply to all projects. Define Workspaces for Recording, Tracking, Mixing, Automating, Mastering. Set them up the way you like things to look. Then they are always there for you, with every project that you work on. Like old Fred and John that you join up with every Thursday night at the pub. Every Thursday you go through the same greeting rituals, the same taking turns in paying for rounds, play the same 3 games of darts. Workspaces. While with Fred and john you might start chatting to some guy who is in town for 3 days on a business trip. The 3 of you chat to him, he plays a game of darts with you. But after that you never see him again. He is a Screenshot. But next Thursday Fred and John will be there, same as usual, because they are Workspaces. And some other guy in town for the night joins you for the evening. But gone tomorrow. He was just a Screenshot.

  20. Arrangement Preview will not be sample accurate - that's why its called preview. It will improve though if you run at low latency. Can you verify that it improves? Depending on project load seeking to far apart sections may cause small discontinuities. Crossfades won't solve all problems. In general arranger is a tool for editing, experimentation and composition but before getting ready for production you typically need to render it and do some clean up.

  22. I've been going the hardware route lately. I'm now up to 2x UA-610s, 2x KT2As and 2x KT76s. I ordered some upgrades for my drum mics. 1 Earthworks snare mic as an alternative to the top SM57 (keeping the bottom SM57 in place), and one D12 Kick drum mic as an alternative to the D112 bullet kick drum mic. I ordered an extra SM57 so that I can mic a guitar amp with an ordered Wilkinison Audio Fredman mic holder. I'm considering building a guitar amp isolation box for my Line 6 Spider IV 75 and maybe picking up a Vox low wattage combo amp that could fit in the same isolation box as an alternative to the Line 6.

  23. @iain mackenzieDo you have audio starting exactly at the start of the new section? Arranger preview is not sample accurate so you could miss hearing the start of the audio buffer where section jumps occur when running at high latency or if the project has very dense data. If you run at low latency the buffer loss is minimized and not perceptible in most cases. I tested this by recording a metronome click track and making sections at measure boundaries that deliberately jump around the timeline and it works perfectly with no gaps. The key is to run at low latency - in my test I ran it at 48 samples. See screnshot. Also note that once you render the arrangement to the timeline it is now linear and at that point you wont have any issues. We'll continue to improve preview in the future where possible.

  25. This question has been answered several times. A workspace is like a template/preset of configuration settings. Its normal for it to be restored to the state when the workspace was saved. If you want to customize a workspace you must make your changes and then save the workspace under a new name. Also make sure that the workspace is configured to save the settings you want. More info about workspaces is in the help. Alternatively set the workspace to "none" if you don't wish to use any customization presets at all.

  27. Sometimes I manage to start cakewalk before I turn on the usb interface or the keyboard, synth, etc. When this happens cakewalk automatically remaps the tracks to other instruments that are turned on and available. This is a pain because I then have to go track by track and reset all the midi ins and outs, and patches etc. It does this even if I close cakewalk without saving, turn on the required equipment, and then restart it. So my question is: Is there a setting somewhere to stop this behavior? Tell cakewalk to just leave things alone. If it canโ€™t find the specified instrument, so be it. Just leave things alone! Iโ€™ve noticed that if I turn off the instrument before I close cakewalk it will ask me if I want to change the settings to an available instrument, but it does not give me this option at the beginning of the session.

  30. Key point Sparky: Keeping people in isolation will cause people's immune system to deteriorate from lack of exposure to everything outside their little areas and from less vitamin D3 (from not being outside more - yes, you can help this just by sitting - alone - in your backyard!). What does this mean? It means we could actually see MORE sick people after the isolation ends. However, it may not be due to COVID-19, but that won't stop the main stream media from trying to say it is. Regardless of the rest, WHY are doctors being told to emphasize COVID-19 in autopsies where the death was clearly due to other reasons? (I've also heard this from a doctor friend and two nurses that are friends.) Sorry, but that just reeks of a political agenda, and that's all I'll say about that. My landlord works as a drug dependency counselor and the number of suicides, domestic issues and drug overdoses have shot up (no pun in-ten-did ๐Ÿ˜) since the isolation started. The economic impact (which really hasn't been felt yet) will be much worse than the over-hyped fear of this virus.

"They keep asking the same questions that have already been answered!" Read the comments on those Youtube videos of the 2 doctors giving the "press conference" and read from other medical personnel in California about how happy they are to be hearing these doctors come out with this information. It lines up with their own experience at their own hospitals. And read all the other comments on these videos that people are writing. Real breath of fresh air.

  38. Thank you! Best deal for Groove3 around. Most of the other stuff is useless to me. As in I have most of it already.

  39. From teaching myself workspaces, I have made use of both. However, I have made some workspaces that intentionally have no screensets. In other workspaces, I have screensets enabled. When enabled, the screensets come from the project. That is, screensets that have been saved in a project can be used (or not used) depending on the workspace. I probably understand how to use them more than some users, but much less than others. So, I will let others explain it further. Just wanted to say they are not mutually exclusive from what I have seen. PS: I recently discovered a problem on my PC that seems to be related to some plug-ins which use OpenGL routines that I don't have. As a result, it interferes with screensets under certain conditions. I am pretty sure this is related to my specific PC, but wanted to mention it because your description is vaguely similar.

  40. CAL scripts are typically created in Notepad - the best way to learn is probably to take one of the existing CAL scripts and modify it. A more comprehensive guide is available here: http://members.ziggo.nl/t.valkenburgh/Cakewalk Application Language Programming Guide.pdf The supplied CAL scripts can be found here: C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\CAL Scripts You probably want to look at DOUBLE.CAL ( which has examples of creating new notes) and LEGATO.CAL (which covers editing notes).

  41. Hi @Andris Rinkis please contact me via PM and we can do some troubleshooting. Yes uploading the project will be useful. You can also capture a dump file when it hangs that may show what's going on. Which version of Windows are you using? If it doesn't work after rollback, then it typically indicates a problem on your specific system installation since rollback reverts Cakewalk to the prior state. (check that the version in the about box says 2020.01 post rollback) Have you already done basic troubleshooting using safe mode? Hold down shift before opening the project and it will prompt you.

  42. I jumped on it. Even though I had large amount of Amplitube plugins, Syntronic Deluxe, Miroslav Philharmonik 2. Sampletank 4SE and about 14 items from T-Racks, it's just an insane amount of value. My reasons? Lurssen, Master Match, Mic Room and Stealth Limiter. I have enough of the rest. But Modo Bass is awesome, far more than I expected. In my experience, All IK products have been stable for me, even old Sampletank2 that I also have. I can understand that some don't like the download and generally the upgrade policy. Now I have many redundant licences...

  43. I've had issues like this with keybindings - sometimes, bind A (in global view), then unbind it (or bind it to do nothing) works.

  45. It seems to me that tracks for markers, arrangement, and tempo could all be worked on together, as they do affect the project timeline. Now that we have slip editing, it's time to step up the game!
