  1. People are going to see this thread pop up and not realize it was March 15th LAST YEAR (2019). The cert expiring certainly doesn't surprise me, since that costs more money by far than keeping the site alive; but you are not logging in or sending any information to the site other than a download request IIRC. Being able to still download it is a good reminder for those who missed it first go-round. As for one-off songs that fail Riffstation analytics, it is pretty accurate and has a nice set of features useful to anyone wanting to dissect music (audio microscope, tempo manipulation, etc.). I personally have experienced dozens of situations where Melodyne has fallen flat on its face, and I paid a lot more for Melodyne than Riffstation (I *think* I got Riffstation when it was around 20USD).

  4. Many places are shutting down, these are scary times…. There is hardly an aspect of our lives that this global pandemic has not touched, and people everywhere are, understandably, under stress. Effective immediately, we are opening the doors to The GuitarJamz Premium content section of our website, to anyone who wants access, totally FREE, from now until (at least) the end of April, 2020. That's right, we're opening it all up for FREE from now through the end of next month. (NOTE: We may extend this free access if the situation out there for everyone does not get better.) This is not a free trial. We believe that now is the time to give, so we simply want to give freely of what we have. Playing guitar can’t heal the sick or hug the quarantined. But it can provide a healthy distraction to you. So whatever your reason, I hope you’ll click here to to gain immediate access to the premium guitar lesson collection Cya on the inside

  7. Glad you got it figured. I did briefly wonder whether you had non-standard bindings in that area, but figured that was the first place you would have looked if you were big into custom bindings. I tend to leave mine default unless it's something I use frequently that requires a lot of modifiers or an awkward one-handed reach, or I'm restoring some long-time binding that the Bakers changed.

  9. I have generally used AMD CPU's for most of my desktop PC's, for the last 10+ years, and love them. I have a RYZEN 1950X Threadripper, in my main desktop, and it is a beast of a machine. AMD CPU's do a fine job with streaming audio apps, such as Cakewalk by Bandlab - you get more bang for your buck with an AMD CPU, versus using an Intel CPU, though the Intel chips run many types of tasks faster - generally speaking, the AMD chips have better performance at the equivalent price point. I should point out that when I built my monster desktop, the AMD motherboards had zero support for the then brand new Thunderbolt 3 protocol. My laptop has an Intel CPU and Intel-based motherboard (of course), and it also has the Thunderbolt 3 support on it. I believe some of the newest AMD-based motherboards have support for Thunderbolt 3, but I do not know which models of motherboard have that support. SO, if you seek Thunderbolt 3 support - just make sure whatever you buy supports it. Have fun with whatever you build. Bob Bone

  11. Right on man. So my last question (for now) would be.. Out of all the piano instruments you own, vst and sampled, if you could only have one for the rest of your life, and the guy has a gun to your head and he is absolutely making you chose one, which would it be?

  12. It's probably been reported by now. It was really meant to be about now forced to setting goals. I'd appreciate it if some deleted their political posts or off the topic. If you really need that kind of stuff in your life then there are the news channels and FB. Too many are testing the waters of violating the forum rules. This forum is my non political safezone and I will help enforce it. This stuff doesn't exist on Live, Image-Line and probably other DAW forums.

  13. I know I'm late for this discussion, but I've started to suspect they dumbed down the chord recognition for the last version 1.6.3. Especially recognizing between major and minor chords is worse in 1.6.3 than it was in version 1.5. I've checked out a few songs that had the right chords in version 1.5 but version 1.6.3 displays some simple minor chords as major chords. One well known example: Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. Version 1.5 displayed the first chord as Fm, version 1.6.3. says it's F. I'd definitely go back to version 1.5 but of course I can not activate it anymore. I only found out about closing the activation servers a few days ago when for some reason my Riffstation installation started asking for me to activate it again - which obviously didn't work. Oh well... since they sort of had to give away the last "future proof" version for free to everyone, maybe they stripped away some if its skills to sell them again as something else in the future.

  15. The build experience was smooth as silk. I've had absolutely no problems with any of the components I used. I've always built my own PC's. (My first build was as part of a computer club project in the 70's, an Altair S100 bus 8080 computer, lol) My most recent build prior to this was centered around an Intel i7/970 CPU and an X58 motherboard from EVGA. By comparison, that build was complex and fraught with challenges and while it ran well for over ten years, it had it's quirks. The DIY world for high-end PC's has come a long way and the parts I used were all well-thought out, well documented and extremely easy to assemble. I felt like I was cheating. Event the liquid cooler was easy as pie and the temperatures are nice and stable. The build is very quiet. You can hear the fans ramp up a bit when I'm stressing things and I wouldn't call this an absolutely silent build, but I'm pretty sure if I monkeyed with the fan heat profiles I could get it pretty darned close. I'm using the Ryzen Balanced Power Profile in the Windows power options control panel settings. That comes with the chipset drivers and sets up the memory speed profiles and CPU configurations. I haven't felt the need to use any more extreme settings. Here's the parts list: Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master Memory: 2 G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 32GB sticks SSD's: 2 Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 Internal SSD's (I mistyped earlier, these are 1TB drives, not 2.) Power Supply: Corsair AX1000 Cooling: Corsair Hydro H150i 360mm liquid cooler Graphics Adapter: Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX580 Case: Phanteks Eclipse P600S Firewire card: Ableconn PEX-FW107 1394b & 1394a (TI XIO2213 Chipset)

  16. That's so funny, I love it! Believe me I always want to share my honest experiences and reactions with these types of things. I love the Grandeur as well but it has a distinctive sound as I say of all libraries. Grandeur is very dynamic and I was using it in a project recently; it seemed it was just sounding too "hard" for a lack of a better word. I then pulled the Walker D into the project and when I adjusted the velocity response all of a sudden it fit right in. I might try and post some sort of clip of how both sounded in this arrangement. There is really no one size fits all piano library as each one is totally unique in their own playability and character. So I guess right now my go to pianos would be (not in any particular order: NOIRE (is really a work of art: Yamaha CFX) Grandeur (Classic Steinway Big larger than life sound) Walker Concert D (*see Pianoteq note) (Velocity layers galore with lots of room to tweak response) Ascend (Steinway meets sound design) Motion Keys (Taking Keys deeper into sound design territory. Mosaic Keys (for even deeper sound design when you need something really out there) Vibrant (for bang on Rhodes and Electrics) Pianoteq 6 (* for just the playability and knowing I have full executive control of this piano; not playing back another musicians performance) Ivory II: Grand Pianos and American Concert D : I just finished a video review of these and although they have some years on them I love their upfront sit in the mix (if somewhat dry) sound. Also I have been able to get some great response from them. Remember these are the same people behind the original digital piano sample library revolution when you only had around 1mb of memory to play with. Please keep the questions coming as it helps me to search for more definitive answers to help any way I can. I have been blessed to have been able to play so many pianos over the years practically all over the world which allows me to have an interesting perspective on things and I love to share these experiences with all of you.

  18. Posture This started off as Berlin school electronic music but it wasn't going anywhere. I had some public domain videos from Prelinger Archives so I took some dialog from a 1953 movie about correcting your posture and plunked it in. Seemed logical. They made a lot of educational movies in the 40s and 50s for public schools, most of them pretty laughable today. The one I used is about a girl who isn't popular because of her terrible posture. The acting is bad but it has a happy ending.

There's just too many pianos and you practically need to buy a new ssd for every 2 or so libraries you pick up. I mean, you've probably already got 5 ssds yourself just for pianos

  23. I am on version 6 so it's only another 3 synths for me :- Mellotron V, CZ V and Synthi V. It's tempting and at least I know how to split the payments now (👍) which leaves more left over to spend on other stuff. Also wondering when v8 is due out? More of a no-brainer for you though as you would also get the Buchla Easel, Yamaha DX-7, Clavinet and Fairlight CMI. @pwalpwal this also answers your question (v5 to v7 gets you the seven items listed above in addition to what you have already).

  30. Hi In the old versions of Sonar we had snap in the staff view (like in piano roll) and inserting notes was much easier. But in the last versions and in Cakewalk by band lab there is no snap and you should move the Now time to the location where you want the new note by pressing SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW or SHIFT+LEFT ARROW and…This is very difficult and every one I know doesn’t like it! Don’t you want to change that in Cakewalk by band lab to the old style or design a new way so that we can insert the notes easier? William Nayeri

  36. Thanks much for your insights and mixing input Tom, I actually had a bigger verb on the snare on first mix, but on second listen I thought it was maybe a bit too much. But now that you mentioned it, now I'm thinking I should have left it alone, hmmm. Also I didn't realize the Springsteen vibe at the time, but now that you mentioned it, I get now, LoL.

  38. My favorite is BlueLab's BL Gain. Very simple. But as others have pointed out, Cakewalk does already have a channel gain knob on each strip. It's nice to have something like BL Gain around, though, because you can stick it between plug-ins if needed.

  39. You gotta give up on holding N and changing the secondary setting; I think we've confirmed it casues isues with mouse pointing and clicking. Just switch to the secondary setting by hitting Ctrl+Shift+N (briefly, not held). Then set the resolution as usual by right-clicking, Then you can toggle between the two settings by Ctrl+Shift+N. I don't usually use 'B' to open the browser, so I assigned that to swap them since it's conveniently right next to N.

  44. Watching your Ivory video. Man I don't know what piano to chose at this point lol. I may get a sampled piano after all. Is NOIRE only really good for that soft tone or can it do a good standard grand sound too? Looks like you can maybe try some of these sampled pianos before buying after all here https://account.bestservice.com/try-sound/session_booking.html

  45. My testimony about Jesus Christ is simple. I met Him. I know Him. And it just so happens that His scriptures prove so much by the fact that what is true science (vs. pseudo science, or science philosophy) was testified to 1000s of years before the modern science age caught up to what God told us already. The latter half of the above is not a religious statement. It's all scientific, historical proof, if you take the time to investigate it. One example: Job 26:7 He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing. [Approximately 1000 B.C., or 3000 years ago.] Before Einstein and later physicists began to understand the expanse of the stars in what they now call stretching the universe.

  47. I was somewhat critical of their main sketchpad library in a previous thread, but credit where due: the update they released a couple weeks ago (which I had not had a chance to install previously) helped a bit. Seemed to fix the problem with the Glockenspiel in particular. I've heard good things about both melodics and the runs library. They are available individually, at $79 each, which seems a decent price. I don't recall exactly, but I think I pad $99 for sketchpad (or somewhere in that range) and while there are things I'd like to see improved, I don't regret the purchase. $79 for Melodics is tempting.
