  1. Has Agnes Patoot been writing you too! That hussy, she told me I was the only one

  2. About 10,000 emails ago, I started to get annoyed. 🤬 But I just let them go on and on, even though I usually delete them without reading them. Sometimes they are written by unfamilar names, like Fred Faderble and Agnes Patoot, and that distracts me and causes me to open them before I delete. Whoever handles their spam strategy is sly. But I thought about it, and decided I had enough, so today I cut them loose, despite the fact that Musician's Friend is still my favorite place to buy hardware. I suppose I'll still find out about the best deals here. 😀

  5. PSP seems to excel in the reverb department. The 2445, the SpringBox and the Pianoverbs are all excellent reverbs. Love the character of that SpringBox. It surprised the hell out of me how really good sounding and versatile it is. Last time I was surprised like that was when I demoed Abbey Road Plates.

  17. No specific hardware simulated, no advanced circuit emulation algorithms used - just tuned to sound good. It is useful for rock and for low to mid-gain sounds, but it is also capable of some high-gain tones. Features 3 drive modes - CLEAN, ROCK and METAL which differs in gain amount but also in distortion character and pre-equalization used. BRIGHT switch engages algorithm which accentuates higher frequencies dynamically. It is very sensitive to the input signal level (this can be adjusted by INPUT). PRE Equalizer not only shapes input signal frequencies but in ROCK and METAL drive modes also significantly affects the drive level and character. POST Equalizer shapes output signal frequencies. GATE features low pass filter on input signal controlled by envelope follower. Useful particularly for higher gain sounds, should be turned off for quiet lower gain sounds. TIGHT affects how fast is the drive response to signal (the more tight - the faster drive amount falls). FAT adds even harmonics to the signal. BODY adds some middle and higher mid-range and some more aggression. MOD is modulation effect which can be set up like chorus, flanger or vibrato. In mode I there is one delay line, in mode II there are two delay lines creating richer chorus effect. DELAY is simple delay effect with overdrive and filter in feedback loop - it can be introduced by THRESH amount. This is only Amp simulator, it does not feature Cabinet simulator. For cabinet simulation you can use some free Impulse response VST plugin like Ignite Amps NadIR. https://lindaaudio.blogspot.com/2020/02/rock-amp-my-first-attempt-on-vst-guitar.html

  22. Sampletank 4 crashes can often be a fault of video card drivers. Sampletank uses OpenGL for it's UI and that is controlled by your video card driver. The other common Sampletank problem is due to versions of the Microsoft C/C++ Runtime. This can be a bit of a tricky subject though. You may need to update a bunch of versions to get everything right. Sampletank may also be using some Intel math libraries (that are shared) which again can cause some issues (depending on what CPU you are using). (I seem to remember yelling at IK over this in the past but my memory on this is pretty hazy ). The solutions to those problems are a lot harder to pin down (developers are supposed to ship the libraries, there aren't practical stand alone installers for end users). Usually re-installing Sampletank should fix this.

  23. Here's one of those articles, it tells how to build the Transient Tamer inside a guitar cable. Most people look at the schematic and assume it can't really work, but look at the screen shots of the before and after You won't hear any clipping or distortion, it just lets a digital device operate in a happier place, and tangentially, gives a better feel. I also EQ before going into any amp sim with distortion. Amp sims have the capacity to reproduce sounds a physical cabinet cannot, so I keep the extreme highs and lows from getting into the sim. As to post-sim EQ, I sometimes add a bit of a broad lift in the 3-4 kHz zone and scoop out the lower mids to give more articulation, but you have to be careful - a little bit goes a long way. Just a dB or two in either case will be enough. FWIW I also wrote a book called How to Get the Best Sounds Out of Amp Sim Software.

  28. sforzando, a fantasy inspired virtual instrument for the free Plogue sforzando player that combines both hifi and lofi samples to create otherworldly sounds suitable for game composers, film composers, sound designers, music producers, pianists and musicians. The Halfling for sforzando starts with a Hobbit-sized upright piano and extents into a soundscape instrument that includes the spellbound sounds of a Hobbit or Halfling. The 2 stereo microphone perspective upright piano alone is the centrepiece in this unearthly sample library, but the piano samples are just the beginning. Inspired by Production Voices own Death Piano, The Halfling is tortured, demented and beautifully flawed in a similar vein, but this time with a new sample set that includes throat singing samples, Wurlitzer 200A lid off, thumb piano, lo fi choir samples, wine glasses, bowls, pipe organ, toy piano, electric pianos and other oddities. All samples are new content recorded for this library. The samples are used as building blocks to create piano and soundscape oddities. The library is 10 GB in size before lossless compression and comes with about 100 snapshots/presets. Features: Upright Piano with 2 Stereo Microphone Perspectives. Upright contains pedal up, pedal down, pedal noises, mechanical noises. Sympathetic Resonance with on/off and volume controls. Sampled key up mechanical noises from the actual keyboard action. Round-robin pedal noise samples with normal and loud settings. Upright piano and choirs sampled at 24-bit 44.1k. All other samples sampled at 24-bit 96k (delivered as 16-bit 44.1k). Pipe Organ sample set: Full rank and Flute rank. Throat singing: Hmm, Ahh, Eee, Vowel morphs, Drones. Extensive Controls page to morph sounds. Reverse samples. Price: $99 - $29 until March 30, 2020. Audio Demos: https://soundcloud.com/productionvoices/sets/the-halfling

  36. I think he is using the latest CbB. And I think only people which are using REAC can say something. PS. Note that original message "style" is a kind of "Russian technical spoken dialect", that is why automatic google translation has quite strange sentences.

  41. Just my opinion, you will be much better off learning to master yourself. It does take dedication to be a great mastering engineer but much voodoo has been spread across the industry that scares most of us to death about how difficult it is!! If you have a good eq, compressor and or limiter, and a decent pair of monitors, you can do the job!! Online mastering can deliver a master but I trust my judgment and ears more than an online computer algorithm to deliver what I want to hear. Just remember that online services have their own levels they prefer to use. Make sure you find out their limits and master to that and you will probably be much happier!!!
