  1. I just went through some of my SSL plugins and discovered that AS-Rack by Nomad Factory is almost indistinguishable from Waves CLA Mixhub, and IKM White channel has the best overall sound, tone and feel. If at some point in time for some reason I'll have to get rid of Waves plugs I already have substitutes.

  4. Yeah, me too. I just bought it today and cruised through the presets. Only a handful are what I would call usable. Good thing I'm only out $4.

  12. Hi Guys, Out of the trenches after a miserable win 10 update to four computers. Current mid November update for the 1903 version. One computer had the magnifier turned on, and couldn't access anything beneath it with the mouse after it eventually restarted. Laptop had the keyboard toasted, unfortunately not an isolated problem. Finally found a website with options for the meltdown, though an idiotic suggestion that if your keyboard doesn't respond, type in such and such into the search field. About as bad as my internet provider who says that if your internet is down, go to this site and start troubleshooting. Finally got the problems fixed and don't know whether it is moral to raise the middle finger to Microsoft, but things were working as fine as could be expected before the "upgrade" Point of all this crap is that win 10 makes it very difficult to stop the automatic updates. You can of course go in and delay updates. There are more obscure command line options to stop the intrusion. Can dig into the services menu to stop the invasion (hopefully) but found the updates magically turned on again if you take this route. Most of you probably already know about this. Not preaching to the choir, so this for those that may not be aware and could benefit... Excellent freeware update manager, as in turn the damn thing off until I want it on again and can choose. Program is WUB. Executable file is a simple toggle, off and on that completely blocks automatic updates and intrusion when you least need it or have no idea what will be left after watching the hourglass spin for an hour or more. https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-5/ Good program that should be in the toolbox. 17. The tool is called Launch Pad. The thread about it is Prior to v1.7 it used a simple copy process to create hot backups. A change was made to CbB 2019.09 which made the simple copy process unworkable. Now the program has to do a little more work to insure the selected version runs correctly.

Hope it works out well for you and your brain, seems like it ought to help some. Bob Bone

  20. NKS is a protocol which Native Instruments use to allow their software and hardware to communicate with each other. This allows for the ability to search libraries, audition sounds, start, stop and record all from the hardware rather than mess around with a mouse in the software and DAW. So much easier to use.

  21. Instability is often driver related. Not always, but often enough that it needs to be ruled out 100% through methodical step-by-step troubleshooting.

  22. Quite a lot! Slow start up times, buggy GUI rendered with web markup languages, frequent updates with enormously long installation time. If you can get past all that, you'll get arguably the best pitch shifter, eye-candy UI, guitar modelling, preset snapshots and community presets. Plus some "Tweak schematics for dummies", if you have their Amp and/or Pedal suites. Some people even manage to coax great tones out of BIAS guitar plugins.

  24. 80s guitars were some of the most over the top processed tracks ever!! I can't tell you how many guitarists I have witnessed, including myself, who have slaved for years chasing the ultimate tone on their rigs only to have the producer and engineer mangle that tone to fit in the final mix!!! All amps are curious creatures. They only do what they were built to do. I don't know of any guitarist that has not relied upon some studio trickery to get what the song calls for. That being said, I would try a different mic or mic placement. Maybe two mics. A dynamic with a condensor. There is a tremendous difference in what speakers are in the cab. Was the amp modded in any way? Any engineer will tell you start at the source to get the best sound possible. Beyond that, it will be up to some masterful eq. And don't forget that refrigerator size FX rack packed with every toy known to man! As well as the 10 foot long floorboard to control the rack!!!😁😁😁 At any rate, I wish you luck chasing that ever evasive perfect tone!! Now, go write a song!!!!🀘🀘🀘🀘🀘

  25. I have fixed the issue. I wrote down all my preference settings (just to be sure) and uninstalled CbB and BA. Rebooted the system. Redownloaded BA, logged in and let it download CbB again (it took much longer than in John Vere's case). And voila it was fixed! Even my preferences were still there! 😊 But still I am working on some changed configuration caused by Windows update 1903. Also I have an issue with CbB (same with Sonar) with transposing audio files (Radius Solo Vocal). I never noticed this before, but in some cases I have nasty clicks (even visual when zooming in). Maybe it is caused by Windows 1903, but I have to do additional research!

  26. Here πŸ˜‰: I would prefere even this! Concerning the copy of the installation files: I have used now Sonar/CbB for many years and I was used to copy installation files. With the old Cakewalk installer it was official where it stores its downloads and you could copy them to another system and it used them to install those versions; or if you wanted you could start the installers manually (there were even special parameters). The installer was/is also capable to go back to an older version! It was very user-friendly, the most user-friendly installer IMHO! 😊 There are many reasons to use a Daw pc offline, here are some of them: To avoid performance issues when Windows 10 is downloading updates (I had this several times and this was the first and foremost reason why I set my desktop offline. In some cases I had even problems with the drivers caused by Windows 10 Updater and I had to reboot first before I could resume my work. Not to be forced to do updates during a busy time, i.e. have the freedom to the updates when you are ready (also this is essentially a Windows 10 issue). Generally can network background processes affect the performance and cause dropouts. In rural areas you can lose the internet for some days or even weeks (once our connection was broken nearby, only 2 houses were affected, so it took 3 weeks until it was fixed! In such a case you are glad if you still have access to Sonar Platinum!). Okay, this is more a reason to have products that do not have online usage. Once our router was hacked and the more your Daw is online the more risk you have that it is also hacked. Lightnings: My network switch was destroyed when a lightning encountered our telephone cable, although it is in a completely different location in the house than the router (that was also dead and the incoming contact was brown). I am sure there are many more reasonable arguments, but I don't mind if someone thinks they are no issue for him.

  30. If you rely on one single computer for all your computer needs, then yes you can't really manage without an internet connection. But it might be different if you have several computers for different uses. An internet connection is not necessarily available in 100% of situations. 2 examples: I used to take a laptop to work for onsite recording. I was not allowed to connect it to the staff network. It was an old laptop and did not have wifi. But I didn't need an internet connection anyway unless some software suddenly required a reactivation, which would have been very inconvenient. For a while, my current DAW PC was in a bad spot for receiving wifi and I had to run a 20-metre long ethernet cable along a corridor and across the lounge, etc. to a router. This was a trip hazard so I only connected it when absolutely necessary.

  34. @Starship Krupa hi, I get the impression that you read posts quickly, here in this topic at least, without going much into details what the author is trying to say. And then you start to defense Bandlab as if someone was trying to fight Bandlab, but some here are actually only fighting a situation, that seems to not concern you at all. No one is fighting with Bandlab though. In my post I said that I have a laptop that's always online (the one I'm posting on the forum btw) where I have Cakewalk installed but I'm also building a production PC that I'm going to keep offline. I don't update Cakewalk with each next version released and would wish that version installed on the offline machine to keep working until I decide for a next update. And even if I'm forced to do it every 6 months, the risk of going through same issues as Marled is a bit terrifying for me. You don't want it to happen on your production machine especially when in the middle of a project of in front of your clients. It appears that even few minutes online twice a year can mess up your offline setup. Having the offline option is very desirable here for me perhaps just because I'm that kind of a person, idk, and most other software offers a solution. It is fine if you can't understand it and it says that you don't feel the need for it. With time I have gathered intro versions of few other DAWs that I'm messing with around and for the moment when my production machine will be ready to fire up maybe I'll decide to go with a different DAW, we'll see. No big deal. And in any case I still have my SONAR working... just recently tried it and activated offline. It worked perfectly so there's that.

  36. I may be wrong, but I think you are talking about crossfading. Check out Page 439 in the manual, to see if that is what you are looking to do. basically it fades out one clip while fading in another which gives you a somewhat seemless transition between two clips (eliminating pops or clicks). if I am off the mark, sorry! Peace, Blindeddie

  38. Best wishes for success, and thank you for the kind words. As it happens, I am not paid by Bandlab, nor are any of the fellow users in the forum community. I am simply following in the footsteps of those who have gone before me - the legendary Billy Arnell comes to mind. I have been helped countless times, over the years, by others in the user forums, and as such, am motivated to assist in areas where I can help, either through direct knowledge, or by doing some research. I also wholeheartedly support the product, and its continued success. The Cakewalk folks have also given me direct help many times. There are lots of folks in the forum community that do amazing things daily, to help others, and all of it motivates me to help. Bob Bone

  39. Oh, I didn't realize that part. Sorry. Seems that Spleeter requires more to make itself work. Thanks for clarifying Jim. While Spleeter may not seem useful it just got me thinking about how A.I. is or can be implemented in audio editing. Numerous possibilities.

  47. I use Voxengo Sound Delay, a free plugin, for this type of thing, e.g. aligning a mic'ed bass guitar with the simultaneously recorded DI track. https://www.voxengo.com/product/sounddelay/ Should work for your chorus effect?

  48. @Trevor Is it for latency purposes ? I could be wrong but I think this is like PDC over ride. I read up on Abletons feature here https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209072409-Delay-Compensation-FAQ This seems to be similar or the equivalent https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR X3&language=3&help=Recording.23.html

  49. Those threads, and the explanation I've given, are correct. About 85-90% of the FX Chains distributed with CbB reference SONAR Bundled Plugins or Z3TA+ which aren't distributed with the Core Cakewalk by BandLab distribution. They seem to be kept for those people who are upgraded off of SONAR distributions that included these plugins. To alleviate confusion, go through the plugins one-by-one and just delete the FX Chain presets (there is a folder with them) that reference missing plugins. Without the reference plugins, they aren't of much use, since it is very hard to replace the plugins if you don't have a reference installation with the original plugins included. What makes this more confusing is that the FX Chain will load, and the project will play, as if everything is okay. You don't realize the FX Chain is broken until you either open it and see the (Missing Plugin) or try to open that plugin to adjust parameters. ALso, it's hard to build many FX Chains from the included plugins, because they don't ship much beyond basic plugins with the DAW (Sonitus:FX, 2 Channel Strips, a Tube Leveler, a Limiter and some ProChannel Modules). SONAR Platinum would have shipped with like 25+ Plugins (or so).
