  1. MMcL MackieControl has now been updated to support VST instruments in the synth rack. Summary of changes: Synth Rack strip support Number of controllable plugins on MCU/C4 increased from 10 per strip to 100 per strip MCU cursor keys now used for plugin/synth navigation in plugin / synth rack mode MCU/XT display completely cleared on startup to address leftover characters on latest MCU Pro firmware Enhanced key combination support for Mackie Compatibles for navigating plugins & parameters: More details here: http://msmcleod.co.uk/cakewalk/MackieControl-MMcL.pdf You can download the latest MMcL Mackie Control from here: http://msmcleod.co.uk/cakewalk/MMcLMackieControlSetup.zip ...or directly from github: https://github.com/msmcleod/Cakewalk-Control-Surface-SDK/raw/master/Bin/x64/MMcLMackieControlSetup.exe Note: When controlling the synth parameters in the Synth Rack, ALL of the VSTi parameters are exposed. There can be literally hundreds of these, depending on the synth. You can use the C4Mapper to arrange and/or limit the parameters for each synth: http://msmcleod.co.uk/cakewalk/C4Mapper.zip - remember to run as admin if you want it to update MackieControl.ini

  2. You would have to talk to someone who has a "Profiling" amp to really get the idea of it. But from what I have gathered a amp such as Kemper takes a pic of you rig from start to finish and gives you that exact sound. If it's an impulse file Idk. But a guy like @Jim Roseberry has that kind of amp and swears by it. Maybe he will come in and give some info from a user.

  4. I would recommend this! The great sounds of the SynthMaster 2 factory library, in a UI similar to Cakewalk Rapture Session. Very playable using the "easy parameters" knobs (MIDI learn capable) assigned by the sound designer to tweak the selected preset parameters.

  5. Just use the free SaviHost and you will have a mini-host for standalone use of any VSTi .dll plug-in. Select your MIDI input device, and your audio output device (ASIO compatible) the first time, and then you're up and running! I have it working with Xpand!2 and I have saved a number of copies to use with many of my other VSTi plugins. Light and fast! I downloaded the savihostx64.zip file (VST2, including keyboard). It unzips to "SaviHost.exe". Seems to work with all of the VST2 plugins I have tried. https://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm

  6. I don't think I've embedded a program change in a MIDI track in this century. When I was using hardware synths exclusively and limited to 4 tracks, program changes (and sysex dumps) were essential. But when you can have nearly unlimited instances of software synthesizers and your DAW remembers everything for you, there's really no reason to bother.

  11. I did it. They answered it was promo for customers with no active AA so this is why I didn't get an email with this promo from them... I will not complain as by occasion I discovered AA is less pricey than EB so I will be charged for next year period 149$ instead of 179$ Nice :) I didn't confirmed payment at the last stage sending to them email instead so in fact it is good for me to keep money for something else.

  12. Like most of you, I was heartbroken when I heard Sonar had gone down. I have a 20 year relationship with that company and software. I absolutely loved it. I am delighted to be using Bandlab Cakewalk and to see that it still is being updated for free. I am working on several albums and I am most comfortable with Cakewalk, but I also use Pro Tools. In a perfect world, I wouldn't need Pro Tools. Keep up the great work Bandlab!

  18. Yes, all those options will work. Just sign up for a free account @ dropbox.com and you will have enough storage space to get the files to me. You will then simply upload the files, choose the share option, copy the link then send the link in a PM or post them here.

  20. Unfortunately rigs cannot be demoed so no way to check by yourself Anyway it is good for you You do not have desire to have it. To be honest I dig it as I am not fan of tweaking etc. Like to connect guitar put something I believe sounds good and done So rarely tweaking any rig (few times just for fun and curiosity ). It is faster just go to next and check if it is what I want at the moment. There are so many of them in packs. For instance choptones boogie has 149 rigs!

  21. There are a few good cloud resources that have a certain amount of free storage. OneDrive if you already have an Office 365 subscription, GoogleDrive, DropBox, etc. I personally use my own domains and FTP, but maybe Bapu will chime in since he exchanges a lot of files.

  22. THANK YOU for pointing this out about UWP. I just got my nanoKontrol Studio, and it was driving me nuts. There's nothing about this in any of the Korg "manuals," if you can call them that.

  23. I would say that audio playback should work fine with Cakewalk using the on-board RealTek audio. WASAPI should be fine for this, especially if you are running Windows 10. Alternatively, there is "asio4all". I use it for soft synth and audio playback with RealTek audio on my laptop, just for playing around, with no issues whatsoever. Disclaimer: I would not use asio4all if I had any other ASIO drivers or pro audio interfaces installed on my machine, as it has been known to conflict with them. http://www.asio4all.org/ So if you are only recording MIDI from the external keyboard, that should be fine as well, as that only uses MIDI drivers, not audio drivers, if you are not actually recording audio via an external input. But if you actually intend to record audio via the laptop line/mic input, you might have issues recording audio from an instrument, and I would have to agree with Chuck E.

  24. Some really nicely conceived melodies there. I'm more of a guitarist than a singer, but that has real nice movement and in a comfortable range. I might be able to pull it off. Send me a drop box link of what you have and I'll see what I can do. Warning: these samples contain Funky and Boogie Woogie Bapu, listener discretion is advised. Has been known to cause foot spasms and pelvis gyrations in the state of CA

  25. I'm really kind of laughing at the discussion about how feedback should be given, when really... no one is obligated to waste their time doing it at all. If this is the B.S. that will litter the thread, then it is not worth my time. You do it. I've grown exasperated with this kind of needless contrarianism .

  30. That's a very cool groove - I really enjoyed your piano playing on this (you mentioned it was EZKeys - sounds great). The bass comes through nicely in the mix. I thought the drums could come up in the mix a bit more - just my taste. Your vocal sits well in the mix - and you performed it well. I really liked the M8-breakdown in this arrangement - the strings sounded good there. Nice job on the lyrics as well. Thanks for posting - I enjoyed the listen.

  31. The only language to have more parentheses than actual code! 😆 I actually never used LISP, but I did code in the only language (still used) that's older: FORTRAN. When you add decades of COBOL and the FORTRAN/COBOL hybrid PL/I, I'm sure I wasn't missing much.

  35. Soft synths is kind of a "new" tool I'm exploring. My musical tastes runs to Americana, classic country and soft rock and my main interest is learning audio production, not recording audio. So my heaviest time and money investment has been with PG Music's Band-in-a-Box and the RealTracks content. All that was said to say I really haven't explored soft synths in much detail. But now I want to learn more about using midi. Band-in-a-Box has a lot of midi content but the Coyote WT and Synthfont64 included as their "normal" soft synth and, at different times, SampleTank or Sforzando players to playback the "high quality" patches PG Music provides. I've messed with Sforzando and Synthfont some and I like using Sforzando but I want to branch explore a different interface and Xpand!2 is an inexpensive answer.

  36. I do think all PA / nembrini sounds the same , same algo but diffrent curves and dynamic ..this is my feeling , the big diff is cabinets and nembrini ones are better .... for bass , Amplitube has some killa stuff , i gravitate aroudn those , add to this the ability to combine cabinet ect ...nah , IK is superior ....even to Eden imho ...

  37. More seriously , i think with nembrini you're set my friend .... bass amps since you have IK , also ....

  39. I used to work for a company where someone decided we should be coding in new Object-Oriented languages and Unix (go figure!), so they apparently wrangled some education dollars from a government fund and, the next thing we knew, we were required to stay after hours and attend college classes taught by professors from Cal. State Fullerton. Here's how things started: Imagine classrooms filled with already overworked, under-paid, uninterested and short-tempered people Add professors that seem blissfully unaware of the situation and teach as if they have months to spend with normal, college kids Include our "Zombie Safe"* programming manager who somehow thought she was qualified to teach one subject Here's the result: For the first time in Cal. State Fullerton's history a tenured professor was asked to be replaced in a classroom We actually made another professor cry into his tie (then he quit) I ended up completely exposing our programming manager's incompetence which resulted in her being let go and I got stuck teaching the damn class! We never did end up using any of the new training 😂 *Zombie Safe is a term I came up with two weeks ago. Basically, since zombies only eat brains, anyone without one would be considered Zombie Safe. 😏

  40. I used to work at a company that sold high-end software for designing printed circuit boards. It was very expensive, but popular with many large manufacturers. One day, the company decided to switch from its proprietary OS to UNIX. There was panic in the tech community, as everyone was now going to need to achieve the same level of expertise in a new environment that had taken many years to acquire in the old one. There were seminars, training classes, books distributed. I myself took a company-paid vacation to Boston to study UNIX (I was already pretty well-versed in UNIX, but hey, a couple weeks out of town on an expense account). But here's the thing: users of the software barely noticed the switch. For them, the O/S was just a program launcher. Most of them used dedicated machines just for this one application, much the way many recordists dedicate a machine to being a DAW. For them, moving to another platform was no more stressful than buying a different brand of automobile. Vojtech is famous for having strong opinions and being stubbornly self-confident in them. Often, rightly so. He is, after all, universally recognized among his peers as a genuine expert in the field. There have been many times when users have asked for enhancements and he's flat out told them "you don't need that". Then 6 months later there's a new release and that feature has been quietly added.
