  1. Few words after.... But my English is broken so it maybe quite painful, my apology for that. If you don't like or use ilok just skip it. Plugin requires it. While it doesn't need dongle I discovered plugin support for cloud ilok is probably little faulty. When I moved to another city and wanted to play with it using different guitar and I/O I couldn't. My cloud session was blocked 😕 Despite off machine when I played previously were off any power 😞 I met also some problems at initial start as after first try fail plugin was excluded by DAW, and had hard times with discovering it again to authorize (needed moved plugin to different folder, scan, then move back, scan - it helped for Sonar but not for S1 which now for some reason can discover it only when it is placed in main plugin folder). About sound. Of course it is matter taste but I find it in distorted sounds has little too many venom and hate - typical thing for many amps simulation not quite as much for true thing. But I liked many clean and little bit crunched or distorted. No too much to go into hate area (mostly playing not mixing). But well, I never had opportunity to use real Soldano. However demo sounds published by manufacturer are free of that venom and hate. So I guess it was done some production on them. While I am not so skilled as guitar player for sure I am also not so skilled to be able produce such harsh midrange or presence. I think manufactures should provide full and honest video how demo was created including any post processing. And in fact it could help them a lot in sale as Anyway the sound of the plugin gives different flavor than my other amps sims and is quite easily cutting off the mix (maybe partially because of that venom&hate About usage IMHO it is not quite finished product as workflow is not as good because of wrong choices for controls. For instance typically in amps sim changing cabinet you can do just by 1 click (next and that's it). In bst you need drag knob turn it. Maybe it seems to be more 'realistic' (?) to developers but is completely not convenient. They probably tested it changing several times at a session but real user can do it tens times more searching for sound. This is strange because it is obvious even for not experienced devels, knobs are most convenient for continues values, never for just a few to pick. And it is easy to do some measurement of workflow. Just to count clicks, moves, drags etc and select option which is letting user to be able to do it in the fastest and easiest way. Trying to use knobs just because they seem to be more 'realistic' for amp (but still simulation:), well... It is overkill... Another annoying thing is those already mentioned mic positions. What in hell means 4 or 5? And guess what I read this time manual. No word about it. Maybe they will improve at least manual?? Another thing is lack o logic about input placement. Gate& input level control is in cabinet section. Well hard to understand idea behind it. Because input section is the same for all cabinets? Well, also for all skins (if ever implemented) etc Why not separate section? I like 'fast presets' for mics idea. This is helpful and nice. Support for impulses also needs improvement. Only 1 at any time, annoying starting point for desktop (really anybody keeps there impulses??). And it is not remembering already selected folder when moving back to factory impulses and then back to user's... Dialog 'window' for presets is one of ugliest I have ever seen. Please don't force me to comment it So after all above you are sure I skipped it, right? Well.... Unfortunately probably GAS syndrome was too strong. I did kind of credit buy with wish they will improve logic and workflow in the plugin. Anyway it gives me something new, interesting, I am using ilok anyway, price was tempting. So failed to resist. Unfortunately.

  2. Hello fellow Cakewalkers! My studio has just been featured in Music Tech Magazine! Here's the link to the online version but I had a double page spread in the glossy magazine! https://www.musictech.net/features/studios/mike-lowe-studio-10-music/ Must be because I'm a Cakewalk Bandlab user? Turns out they own the magazine! Thought you guys would be interested to see my space which has been put together for a relatively small budget. Cheers, Mike p.s. I also big-up SSL... any SSL freebies gladly received...well, one can wish!

  5. Years ago I was cleaning up my project HD and decided to make a backup zip file of the info. Well somewhere along the way I decided I would reformat the drive and restore from my bkup. Yep you guessed it. Zip file would not read. Corrupted. Ever since then I always check any back up I make!! Simeon, I have a 4TB external drive that I got about three/four months ago. Got it for the purpose of bkup on my Music PC. It's still sitting in the box I got it in. : ( So your post has got me to thinking, and I got a funny feeling inside, so when I get home tonight, I am taking that thing out the box and Bk'n up!!!

  6. There are people who subscribe to my craig_anderton twitter feed solely for the monthly nag I give to back up your data I'll add one more suggestion: it's not enough to back up, the backup needs to be organized so that you can find what you need, when you need it. Knowing that the file you need to restore is "somewhere" can be a problem. I just bought a 4 TB drive last week to backup up my drives of loops and samples.

  7. It seems that you can only move to whole sample positions (which makes sense). Depending on sample rate and tempo, those positions may not align precisely with musical time. So it's inevitable that there might be a small offset between sample and bar/beat. You can check that by adding a sample ruler. That said, grid lines shouldn't disappear of course.

  8. If you're looking for free photos, there are a lot of sites, and you can find lists on Google like this one My favorites are Unsplash, Gratisography, and the amazing Pixabay. But there is a particularly cool site called LibreStock , which is a search engine through most of the top sites. I don't think it's comprehensive, it's more of a "best of," but it is a real time-saver

  9. Haven't tried this yet but I really like & use many of his plugins. Ray worked for/ with Brainworx (Millennia, Vertigo Sound, Elysia, Maag, ACME Audio, Black Box) launched Black Rooster Audio & now on his own with Fuse Audio Labs.

  10. I forgot about that. Your are correct KK. And if anyone wants to upgrade the Gold Bundle to include the RennMaxx just ask Koby, he can cut you a good deal. He did for me and many others.

  13. I use a synology NAS and it has already bailed me out twice. Since you set it up with redundancy if one drive dies you can simply replace that one drive and get back all your data. Of course the entire NAS can die in a disaster so you need to have cloud storage or redundant NAS backup as well. I use crashplan for cloud storage as well. However since my projects live both on the NAS and the HD there is a low chance of needing the cloud. A NAS is well worth the investment. You can get one with the hard drives for around $600 depending on how much storage you want of course.

  15. Let's say Koby has this deal, his prices are around $23 per plugin. $23 x 3= $69/4=$17.25 per plugin of your choice. Damn Larry! You keep getting them to lower the price again and again!! Is 17.25 the new $23?!! : )

  16. The crossgrade license is just a discount, the license looks exactly like a normal Cubase license. So you could re-sell it, but doing that requires shipping your dongle (or a extra dongle you purchase to transfer just the license you want to sell, if your dongle has multiple licenses). Steinberg has a resale wizard to walk you through all the cases. But here's the page that describes selling Cubase 10 Pro on a eLicenser by itself: https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/knowledgebase_new/resale_wizard_software/registered/usb_elicenser/single_license.html

  17. Great point. That is one of the most missed steps in the process. CHECK YOUR BACKUPS! No use backing up corrupted data, or storing them in a place that is not conducive to keeping them from getting corrupted. Maybe once a <year?> go back and try to restore your backups to make sure it's still usable.

  18. wow, thanks daryl! this one is a bit of a stretch for me, because even tho i wrote it on guitar, i started by learning and playing it on keys. my keys chops are rusty! cheese. good point , i was quite sure i had fondue that night.

  21. I am working with 24/44 on my Surface Pro. And I see your at 48/32 which may be why we see a difference. But based on what I am seeing, I think what your issue is has to do with CbB saving extra data/info for the clip so that it can revert back or undo. And that is compounded by you switching the tempo after the project was started. Others have reported strange behavior that was due to info that is 'traveling' with the clip for reasons of reverting and undo. So I am not sure if this is a bug or expected behavior. Now I could be way off on the reasons why this is happening, but I think I am in the3 ballpark! : ) Maybe someone else will chime in and give us a different reason.

  22. After a corrupted cd project happened to me about 20 years ago (good old bun files) I started backing up religiously. Before I backup my OS I restore the previous perfectly working one (no demos, beta releases, trials, crashes, de-fragmented) Current OS & projects go on 3 different hard drives. ( I also keep an initial install backup of Windows) Projects, masters also to DVD plus finished masters, mp3's, artwork, info to flash drives. One internal drive for current downloads, plugins, samples & DAW related files then about 6 HD's to back those up (mainly samples-VI's). I backup my os about once a month, projects in stages, any new downloads or samples about every 4 months. A bank safe deposit box for one copy of each. Oh yeah, plus I run any additional or older hd's I have about once a year.

  23. Nope. I still get the expected results. I don't see the extended zero waveform lines that you see. Even when I do it like you do in the video. On another note, I never use the Smart Grid. It does things that I don't expect and I am left wondering 'Why is this happening?' So I made myself a project template that I use for new projects. So I essentially never see Smart Grid in action. Let me ask you this, has that clip your dragging been edited at the start/beginning of the clip? That might have something to do with this. IOW, CbB is saving the info that's been edited in case you want to revert back to the original clip. And look what happened with me! This was after I edited the clip, then bounced it to clip.

  24. Ohhhh!! Now I get it!! : ) I changed the tempo BEFORE I did anything else. Let me try it now that I know what you mean and see what I get.

  26. I agree with this. And this was the only thing I forgot to look at when I did your test. And @Sonarman you are correct, at the last seven to eight steps from zoom being maxed out (or would that be maxed in!) the grid lines disappear. I think you may have found a bug. : ) You can report it by submitting steps to reproduce the issue to @Noel Borthwick, @Jon Sasor, or @Jesse Jost any one will get you to the place to make the report.

  28. @Sonarman I did what you described/ asked. So yes I changed the tempo. I also zoomed in as far as it will go, sample level. And yes, I did as you asked, when zoomed in max I was able to move the clip, get it back exactly to bar 2, and I was able to get the now marker on bar 2 also. If you want a clip to fall exactly on the beginning of a bar, you can use snap settings of a musical time. IOW measure, half, quarter, eighth, act. There is also a setting (not at my computer) that puts edits at the zero crossing, eliminating the need to zoom in and check.

  29. Normally this means your MIDI prepare buffer is too small. The default is 250, so consider increasing it (I normally use 750) Another issue could be your Driver Mode (see top of image). Not all MIDI interfaces play well with UWP, so if you are using UWP consider using MME (you'll probably have to close your project to change this).

  30. Thank you guys for testing. I use melodyne editor 4.2.1.003 german version. >>4. In melodyne window menu go to edit / cancel Therefore the menu point is "Widerrufen" which is in english revoke, i think you are right, that does not mean cancel but undo. So the issue seems to be either in german version of CbB or in german Melodyne because it seems to work in english version.

  31. If I'm not using the guitar sim's reverb, I will probably use convolution or Breverb CW edition. Speaking of, I am really impressed with the reverb in S-Gear. It just does so many things so well. Also, Guitar Rig's Vintage Verb is really nice. One trick I recently discovered is to use the Octoverb's "Guitar" preset with a short time and mixed low or against another verb to give a bit of life to rhythm guitar.

  32. Yeah I see that however CbB has arbitrary clip automation envelopes, not a static gainstage like there. My point is its somewhat harder to apply to the waveform. If it was a simple gainstage we'd have done it a long time ago.

  33. With zoomed max try to click at bar 2 to place the now time there, or drag the clip a few samples around and try to place back at bar 2.

  36. Now sure what exactly u mean by proper scaling but in CbB you can dock mixer to the multidock and use keys D and Shift +D to view and hide the dock. You can also float the dock and then do the same incase you wanna see the mixer full screen without the control bar and other views.

  41. Possibly a scanning issue. PC modules are based on VST2 and must be scanned in order to show up in the menu. The path to the PC Modules is stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Cakewalk VST\VSTInternalPath By default, CbB installs PC modules in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal which is used as the key and data stored in the registry. Aside from the registry, the only place this path is visible is in the scan options displayed in the Plug-in Manager. This path is not shown in preferences but is one of the paths used by the scanner. Do NOT add the path to the scan paths in preferences. Verify the PC module path is in the registry Run a vst reset from preferences make sure "Scan in Sandbox" and "Generate Scan Log" are checked. Review the log. It should be pretty easy to see if the PC modules are getting scanned and if the scan runs to completion.

  43. I wonder if ARA 2 in S1 paved the way for the Chord Track (and it's ability to work on polyphonic audio) in S1? Does this pave the way for the same chord track functionality in Cubase once ARA 2 arrives there? And what about a chord track in CbB now that it has ARA 2 support?

The focused channelstrip now has the same colour as the Track Inspector Track and Bus Strips to achieve a clear visual and functional connection.

  46. For MIDI have you tried the pattern tool? You can essentially select a MIDI clip and "paint" it inside the piano roll view to roll out the data on the timeline. It's a reasonable request however.
