Improving CbB means many things to all of us, whether it’s improving stability, adding new features or improving existing ones (audio editing is a big one by all accounts!). For others, improvement means increasing software reliability. It’s all critical, so we’re pleased to announce that the 2019.05 release brings a healthy dose of both new and improved - our top stories being support for ARA 2 and multi-clip slip stretching! On top of bringing lots of new functionality to life, the team put massive focus on bug fixing and improving the state of slip editing in general, addressing a multitude of long standing issues. We’re super excited about this one, folks! Features & Enhancements ARA 2 (Audio Random Access) plug-in support. ARA 2 provides tighter, more efficient app integration of next generation ARA plug-ins such as Melodyne 4, including sharing tracks, regions, selection, as well as other project settings Improved editing of ARA 2 regions with a shared view across all plug-in instances Multi-clip slip stretching (hold down CTRL+SHIFT, then drag any selected clip edge to stretch all selected clips, or use the Stretch tool) The global Timing tool has been renamed to Stretch tool The Gain knob in the Inspector controls either audio Input Gain or MIDI Velocity Offset for Instrument tracks, depending on whether the Audio tab or MIDI tab is selected Updated zplane élastique v3.3.0.23501 audio stretching and pitch shifting with bug fixes and performance enhancements The Stretch tool (available by right-clicking the Edit tool in the Control Bar) now works on multiple selected clips, and also supports lasso selection and time selection Bug Fixes Clip Properties Inspector shows incorrect M:B:T clip length (actual length + 1 measure) Step Record continues to record to the original track after you switch focus to another armed track Arpeggiator Rate control fails to update when the parameter is automated MIDI only projects are immediately marked as dirty on file open Accessing menu commands can unnecessarily mark a project as dirty Bounce to Clip(s) results in mono data if a clip envelope is selected; Bounce to Clip(s) is now unavailable if the selection does not contain MIDI or audio data Intermittent crash when opening projects Closing a project immediately after opening can cause a crash Staff view fails to persist on project load Opening lyrics view when transport is playing causes crash Slip editing allows clips to be made zero length Clip waveform sometimes disappears while slip stretching Waveform display in split audio clip appears to adjust crop when slip stretching Slip Stretching MIDI clip causes clip data to disappear Slip Stretching cropped MIDI clip causes clip data to change unexpectedly Undoing slip stretching of audio clips could sometimes not restore the clip to its original state Slip Stretching clip to max, then dragging in opposite direction causes clamp to fail After stretching a clip to the max 400%, releasing the mouse, then attempting to stretch the left edge further causes all stretching to get lost unexpectedly Drag copying an ARA Region FX clip to create a new clip can result in a crash Tracks still visible in Melodyne after deleting or freezing tracks with Region FX clips Melodyne UI doesn't show slip stretching preview while editing until mouse up Canceling from a slip edit or slip stretch doesn't restore ARA regions in Melodyne When slip stretching a Melodyne Region FX clip from the left side, Undo does not restore the Melodyne data to its original location Undoing a copied Melodyne clip leaves blobs visible in Melodyne Cropping a stretched Melodyne clip causes blobs to shift unexpectedly Melodyne does not update when changing clip start time or duration from Clip Inspector Melodyne doesn't show preview while dragging Melodyne Region FX clips Clip loses focus in Melodyne after dragging to a new track Latest release notes are here. Hi folks, Most have probably seen that we have a new release out - see above link. It wasn't planned but it has ended up being one of the strongest releases since we started CbB - a fitting tribute to our one year anniversary! Not only did we finally do ARA2 which has been in planning for some time, but we tackled some tricky and long overdue improvements to editing in general. The bullets in the product announcement cover a lot of ground but I'll highlight a few notable improvements: Slip editing (cropping) and stretching clips is now far more robust for all data types (MIDI, audio and ARA clips). Edits are now managed accurately even when doing combinations of operations such as cropping followed by stretching or vice versa. Edits should also be preserved across undo and redo. Multi clip time stretching, an often requested feature, allows you to easily time stretch clips on multiple tracks by the same amount. Elastique time stretching is improved and sounds better. When using ARA clips there is a lot of new goodness especially with ARA 2 plugins. This is our biggest ARA refresh since 2013 when it was first implemented and there are numerous optimizations and improvements behind the scenes. If you have Melodyne you will notice that all edits like dragging or cropping and stretching clips now have real-time preview in Melodyne. This makes it easier to align with other tracks when editing. Track and clip selection are now fully mirrored via ARA 2 allowing Melodyne to follow your clips and track selection. You can set Melodyne to automatically hide and show blobs automatically based on your selection. It will also respond to renaming tracks and clips. There aren't any ARA plugins that respond to color yet but when available they will also respond to the track and clip colors in CbB. All ARA 2 clips now share a common view. So navigating across multiple clips is as simple as clicking on a clip. The view data in Melodyne will automatically change to track the selected clip. Is is a lot faster than double clicking clips to close and reopen a new view. Creating ARA regions as well as MIDI analysis is now more efficient and should be a bit quicker. The Gain knob in the Inspector controls either audio Input Gain or MIDI Velocity Offset for Instrument tracks. This allows you to independently control MIDI velocity for instrument tracks based on whether the Audio tab or MIDI tab is selected in the track inspector. Thanks to several forumites who suggested this useful feature. Playlist view has been widened to accommodate showing more text. Bug fixes: We fixed over 45 bugs this release alone! Not all are listed since some of them were related to the new features. We continue to prioritize making CbB as stable as possible. A small request. For each release we'd like to gather some feedback on how useful or stable it is for you. If you are so inclined please take a moment to rate the product release topic in the forum. (there is now a star rating at the top of the post) Thanks to you all for your support and we hope you enjoy 2019.05 and our upcoming releases this year!6 points

Actually that particular issue had nothing to do with ARA2. It was a tricky issue with order of operations leading to a race condition in Melodyne that happened to come to light while I was working with them on the ARA2 stuff. Celemony has an independent fix for this which is currently in beta. There are lots of general ARA fixes and optimizations in this release especially while editing and many preexisting issues were resolved.6 points

This is my biggest issue with Studio One. It looks like a kindergartner designed the interface. Functional, YES, pleasing, NO.3 points

You've really got that vibe down pat with this one -- vox and such are right in the pocket. And...dare I say this...I found the guitar break to be kinda beautiful -- well thought out, very well played with ringing resonant tones. And yes, I did bob my head while listening. Good one, mate! ~Allan2 points

Wow, this downloaded and installed in less than 2 minutes, and the Melodyne improvements are just what I was looking for. Way to go Bandlab!2 points

For anyone who had this problem, the easiest way to get your template back after Cakewalk update overwrites it, is to simply open one of your project sessions from before the update as it will likely have had that template loaded on startup. So, open the file, delete any session data that might be in there and quickly re-save/overwrite to the basic template .cwt that is kept in C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\project templates. You can save a copy of this template in a different location so if Cakewalk overwrites it you can go and get your copy of it to replace the updated one. J2 points

Yes. This is a known topic. The install/update will over-write all the factory templates. If you are making a customized version, save it under a different name. If you wish this new template to be your default template, you will see an option to set any selected template as your default. Updates will not alter such user-created templates.2 points

I'm the nineties I joined, submitted 4 songs against 4 listings ignorantly thinking my stuff was a shoe in only to get back 4 largely unflattering critique letters back. I got disenchanted but learned to write bridges for my songs.2 points

With grey as it's base color and peaceful aqua as the accents, the Artist theme tries to create a cool yet professional-looking interface while keeping eye-strain at bay. - I haven't had a chance to fully test this theme, so let me know if you get any problems or have any suggestions! Hope you like it! Artist Theme.zip1 point

If you are not into Berlin school or repetitive tunes I would probably avoid this. Quanta Those that are brave enough to listen thanks. Synths used in this Two instances of Arturia's Modular V. 1 each of Arturia's DX7, CS 80 V, 1 Korg ARP Odyssey And last but not least Superior Drummer 3 Orchestral Percussion SDX.1 point

This is isn't new, but I was just reminded of it by SoundIron's UFO synth. It's a nice synth, and you can get a lot of nice sounds out of it if you know what you're doing. http://www.taron.de/lots/ My favorite track from a KVR contest featuring that synth:1 point

I am not a fan of Studio One's interface at all, It really puts me off the product, nevertheless, I have v3 pro and got the email. One thing I will say for Presonus (and have said on their forums), they are great with their newsletters, there is always some tit bit of info or freebie or discounts or announcement or something. I have about 12 added plugins in my Presonus account but I only use the ones with easy authorization, I don't want USB locks and registering and authorizing with all these different agencies. Don't know what the announcement will be, hope it is more than Nektar control, but it makes things a little exciting!1 point

I enjoyed the song, Øyvind! 2nd mix is definitely better. As far as doubling the vocals, a doubler will work, but it sounds so much better if you actually resing the tracks. I usually will sing two extra tracks. Pan the main one up the middle, the drop the other two tracks about 10-15db, and pan them 30% left and 30% right. Try it man, I think you'll like the results. Great song though!1 point

Where's the love for Mixbus UI? My taste leans to SO4P UI over SONAR. Colors get me jazzed.1 point

@garybrun Thank you, I would have been surprised the ARP is right down there in the low 20 Hz region and the Modular also has its moments down there. As to mixing synths it can be tricky sometime as they can have very wide frequency spectrum's. Thanks for the listen and your kind words.1 point

Just installed back to the latest Melodyne and hooray its working on the right algorythm. Thanks Bandlab obviously Melodyne now requires ARA2 to function properly. Thanks Roy1 point

This is one way but the safest is a custom project template folder location. The installers write to the default location, a custom project template folder is not touched by the installer.1 point

UEFI was created to release us from the shackles of only being able to boot from bios devices, and now from anywhere directed to. All it will take for your precious win10 box to be told only to boot from the m.s. mothership is one of your beloved security updates. I have formed the sentence this way because of the apathetic cool-aid drinking that is the worlds acceptance of automatic corruptdates under the guise of security and necessity. I personally have no pcs in this house using anything but MBR boot and updates off (for good) windows 10 or otherwise. They will never get me.1 point

I liked this one... panning and stereo image is great. I nearly wrote it could do with more low end... then I realised I had switched the bass of my Focals. 🙂 Very Scifi ish?? and great title too. Was it hard to mix with all of those frequencies. I personally have never tried to mix synths.1 point

I've tried to convince my band that if I could just record my parts in MIDI, take them home and doctor them up, that when I came back the next night my live performance would then be impeccable. Oddly, they insist on real-time sound generation. "The audience won't wait around while you edit the PRV", they said. Luddites! Next, they'll tell me I have to use a real tambourine instead of samples. Now, that's just a safety issue - those things can give you bruises.1 point

On a related note, here are some timing tips from bass legend Carol Kaye. I especially liked the bit about making a metronome groove.1 point
