  4. You may know SAS from their very beautiful and reasonably priced instruments MOUNTAINS, RESONA, AUTUMN CHOIRS, and TALUA. My favorite is MOUNTAINS, but I just picked up AUTUMN CHOIRS in this sale for $6! (70% off) and now I have all of them. Find out more about them here https://www.sound-aesthetics-sampling.com/products/ Their sale works like this: They added three coupon codes with different discount amounts to their website. The first two with bigger discounts are limited to a certain number of uses, the third isn't. They all expire on June 1st. SAS also created some bundles, which are only available during this promotion and the coupons can be used on them as well. SPRING_SAS_70 (limited to 15 uses) SPRING_SAS_55 (limited to 30 uses) SPRING_SAS_40 (unlimited) If you want to directly check the shop click on the link below: https://sasampling.onfastspring.com/

  6. This is a really amazing synth. I've made quite a few videos for it if you're interested in how it works. I'd pick it up while its still in beta and the price is cheap.

  7. It's a small thing... but I would love to be able to customize the color of the cells in the color picker window that is displayed when the user presses the color marker against a track (or anywhere else the color palette is displayed). Ideally the choices should be persisted between projects (just like a user's choice of Theme or Colors from Edit->Preferences). A nice-to-have would be to be able to save and load palette selections from a file... but I'd be overjoyed with just being able to customize the default colors in cakewalk.ini or similar.

  9. It's extremely difficult to dumb down any complex bit of software. Any feature rich application is going come with a learning curve. Lenses do go some way to mitigate this. I did at one point suggest that the installer ask you what level you're at so it could automatically apply the default lens accordingly... however you can bet that there would be a bunch of haters out there complaining that you can't do this, that, and the other just because the lens has hidden it and they didn't know that. To be honest, I don't see Cakewalk being any more complicated than ProTools, Cubase or Studio One. There's probably more ProTools videos out there than anything else, and I don't think Cakewalk is that much different to use. The last time I used ProTools, I pretty much hit the ground running (and that was before the YouTube explosion on tutorials). It was certainly closer to Cakewalk than Cubase... mind you I was still using SONAR 8.5 at the time. I find the CakeTV videos to be not much more than a taster, mainly for marketing, although the BandLab ones I think are enough to at least get you recording something. The ChernobylStudios tutorials are straight and to the point. They don't go into a huge amount of detail, but cover the important stuff. I would say they're the best to get your started. The StreamworksAudio ones are more comprehensive, but obviously a bit longer. The Groove3 "SONAR Explained" videos are by far the most comprehensive, but at five and half hours long it's a lot to take in. I managed it over two weeks of lunch hours in the office. I would add though, having used SONAR for over 20 years, I thought I knew it pretty well. I probably only knew 20% until I watched the Groove3 videos. It's well worth the time and investment.

  11. Well, not literally. I didn't actually die. Saw it up close, though, and through the haze of excruciating pain I accepted that possibility as a welcome relief. But for the fourth time, medical technology brought me back. Looks like the book of my life has at least one more chapter to go before it concludes. Whatever the contents of that chapter may be, I'm confident that the subject of what's the best delay plugin isn't gonna be in it.

  12. Hi, I'd like to report minor issues related with dialog boxes, maybe they are easy to fix. One issue is that I've noticed CbB started to hang when I tweak on dialog boxes, like Note Properties and Event Inspector. It has started with march update but I've noticed that before. It happens when I hover the mouse between the plus and minus buttons of value field and a double side arrow appears. When that happens clicking and dragging the mouse will cause CbB to produce a 'beep' sound and it will hang, forcing user to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to leave Windows for a while and then go back. I tried to reproduce this on Sonar Home Studio 2017, but it is working fine. The other issue happens on Event Inspector too. It happens when I click on one parameter to change value, but if I hover the mouse out of value field CbB will end the operation. As an example, if I hover accidentally the mouse and hit '3' for third bar on 'Time' field, CbB will open 'Screenset 3'. Best regards,

  13. All DAW forums have feature request or suggestion sticky topics. This makes the DAW more complicated as hard core users are usually the ones posting for more technical advancement of the DAW. It can mean that new features are continually added to the DAW. No-one seems interested in keeping track of and removing obsolete features, duplicated features or just features that didn't work out or were unpopular. What about having a "Feature Dequest" sticky topic where people can ask for certain features to be removed.

  15. The following is excerpted from my book, "The Huge Book of Cakewalk by BandLab Tips." If you have the book, the complete section with illustrations starts on page 395. But hopefully, this will be enough to get you going. It’s entirely possible to stream Cakewalk by BandLab’s audio. Bluetooth adds about 30-40 ms of latency so you probably won’t be doing any overdubbing, but for listening back it’s fine. To do so, you need to use the Windows drivers, not ASIO. MME is the fail-safe option, however it adds lots more latency. WASAPI Exclusive or WASAPI Shared mode is a much better option. I’ll use iLoud as an example, but the protocol for other Bluetooth devices is essentially the same. 1. Pair your Bluetooth device with your laptop or desktop Bluetooth. Your device will provide instructions on how to do this, but it generally involves pushing a button while the two Bluetooth-friendly devices are turned on, and in close proximity to each other. 2. Choose Start > Settings > Devices, then click on the Bluetooth category. Verify that Bluetooth is turned on, and make sure that your Bluetooth device is shown as Connected, not just Paired. 3. Return to Settings, then click on Personalization. Next, click on Themes, then Advanced Sound Settings. 4. Your Bluetooth device should appear in the list of potential playback devices. Click on it, and use Set Default to make the Bluetooth device your default playback device. 5. In Cakewalk by BandLab, under Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording, choose MME as the driver mode. I’ve also used Bluetooth successfully with the WASAPI driver mode. Note that you will not be able to obtain latencies comparable to ASIO, so if there’s distortion, aliasing, etc., try increasing the latency. 6. Also in Cakewalk by BandLab, under Preferences > Audio > Devices, choose your Bluetooth playback system as the output device.

  20. I don't believe that can be done. Kontakt has no knowledge of what's going on in your project. You might, however, look into using Kontakt's favorites (AKA Quick Load; press CTL-F) feature as a way to narrow your choices. Every time you use a library in a project, add it to the favorites. Then at least your choices are limited to instruments you've used in the past.

  21. I've noted that correlation, too. And now Denver has decriminalized shrooms. Will be interesting to see what kinds of unexpected consequences ensue. OTOH, we've had a recent issue with airplanes falling out of the sky. That could be bad for the local economy. Luckily, we're still making completely reliable products such as Windows. And Amazon will soon be crashing drones into our homes and inventing a new sport: Skeet-shooting With Prizes. Oh well, we still supply toilet paper to the world (Weyerhauser), so there's that. Now if we can just bring back Grunge...

  22. The NKA files are presets for the Ostinatum arp feature. But at least for me putting them in my Documents folder doesn't work. Looking at the file access log it seems to be looking for %userprofile%\Documents\Albion ONE\Data which doesn't exist so the load button brings me to the Kontakt 5 default directory. But if you make a Data folder and move all the .nka files into it, then the load button will work correctly. To be honest this kind of poor attention to detail isn't uncommon with Spitfire. I don't think Windows is their preferred platform. Short version: copy the Albion ONE folder that is inside the Spitfire Albion ONE library folder to your user Documents folder (which may be something like c:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents Then inside it make a new folder called Data and move all the .nka files into it. Then you can load the Ostinatum settings with the load button without having to go hunting all over your hard drives to find them (which you can also do). Truthfully this isn't how Kontakt instruments are supposed to work, they should have put them in the Kontakt preset settings directory. And their installer should have put them there for you. Note: I bought Albion ONE a while ago, your download may be very different than mine. This may just be because of that, your mileage may vary, member FDIC.

  23. Hawk, I really like this and I think Emily would have too. 😁 Great idea to use a well structured poem to build a song upon and you and your collaborator did this very well. I couldn't make out the lyrics in several places but I have more trouble with that than most listeners I think. All in all, a great song!

  24. Bingo! The instructional YouTube videos created by Bandlab, ChernobylStudios and some other creators are great. But there are so many of them. Who has time to churn through all of them? The Cakewalk by Bandlab Reference Manual is wonderful but asking anyone to become familiar with 2,184 pages is a reach. I find the program to be very intimidating. Simple editing tasks like highlight, cut, copy, delete, paste and move that are intuitive and easy to perform in other programs like Audacity are not listed in the menu and do not follow keystroke combinations used in any other program that I know of. The Control Bar defaults enable too much stuff. I would love for the developers, a very knowledgeable user, or third party like Groove3 create templates with lenses that focus on performing specific tasks. Tasks I would like to see include: Installing an audio interface, installing a MIDI interface, using the built-in audio features on a laptop (microphone, headphones, USB mic, USB headphone). The next step is recording audio, recording MIDI and playback. Then there is importing files and creating projects. Next is editing, then adding effects, then using groove clips. In other words, baby steps. Don't assume anything. Use lenses and screensets to create demo project templates where the Control Bar and screens have only what is needed to perform each task displayed. There are a lot of people interested in creating music, recording and audio production that DO NOT KNOW how to get started. Cakewalk by Bandlab needs to be the Windows product everyone first thinks of when the subject of computer recording is brought up. The product is feature rich enough that it can grow as a user progresses.

For some reason, some people sell a a special chip. I could be wrong, but it may be it's only settings loaded. haha Any version of the FCB 1010 will do I think. I'm not sure it matters. I could be wrong here. I got mine used on Craig's list. Since I turned on a friend. He borrowed mine for a 6 months and the got his own when I stole mine back. To load these settings, 1. plug in the midi input only 2. turn off the fcb 1010, step on the down pedal and hold it down when you turn it on. 3. switch it to the input setting. 4. click send from the app you've opened my settings into 5. step on the down pedal for a few seconds and it will count down from 10 or so. 6. Turn it off and back on. >> have fun! Next... 1. open th3 2. map the stomps and expression pedals to anything you like.

  28. Great use of synths to create a SciFi/Horror piece of music. The use of sounds does create a definite edge to this song and the dialogue from the movie really accentuates the whole feel of the song. Way back in the old days, here in the Tampa Bay area, Dr. Paul Bearer hosted a Friday night horror show on one of our local channels. I am not sure who was the bigger "hoot" -- Dr. Paul or the cheesy movies. One empty, unoccupied Friday night (for me)he showed Planet 9 --- I thought it was the best worst movie I had ever seen (I'm not sure if that was a crit. or a complement?). Nice one Bjorn!!!

  32. This is very true for new users. There was a point in time from the late 90s to 2005 or so where many old school analog users (probably like you and I) were clutching our tape machines resisting the digital realm. Others were simply curious. Then something else happened around this same time, we were introduced to a DAW by a friend, maybe we saw someone use one and it grabbed our attention. A lot can be said for being introduced to a DAW and it being your first DAW. you begin to feel so invested, that moving to another DAW feels like walking backwards (in terms of learning new features, keyboard shortcuts). That's the case for me anyway. Unless Cakewalk rolls out some type of Lego Lanes which totally loses my interest, I'll keep using it because of only 2 things 1- It does what I want it to. 2- I don't have to learn anything new (which lets me focus on the important stuff like the music).

  34. TTS-1 is automatically added to a project when a MIDI file is opened AND there is no MIDI output device selected in preferences.

  35. Normally when you open a midi file, Cakewalk will create an instrument track at the end containing the TTS1 synth. Freezing this track on its own is enough to create a mixdown to audio. However, if all you want to do is export the project as mp3, the easiest way to do it is to use the export module:

  37. So true, Craig. Why do we romanticize drunk girls? Sure, they're much easier to get the pants off of, but that's it. If there is even a remote chance of vomit being involved, I do not want them anywhere near my stuff. Or my electronics, either.

  38. Would it be possible to add indicator lights or buttons for the 3 record modes so that they are in plain sight on the control panel? I've many times erased data because I was in overwrite mode and not comp or sound-on-sound mode and didn't realize it. I make it a habit, now, to check before I start, but indicator buttons or lights in track view (like the ripple edit button) would make life much better. I'm glad we have a right click option, but it's easy to forget if you come back to a project on a different day and can't use the undo function. A safety valve, so to speak. Thanks CW for listening!

  40. Hi Folks / Bakers! Was thinking about this for a while. Maybe it is there, just bypassed me for some reason... When I finalize project for mixing, I usually try between 3 to 15 mixes, before I get it right. If it is something simple like volume levels of a couple of tracks, I just memorize that, but when it gets more complex, I try to do a "SAVE AS" project, so I have a copy of a previous, in case wind will take me to distant lands. I think it would be very cool to have snapshots of "mix saves" inside one project. So no file open/close thing. So it all happens on the background and user would only click, on lets assume choice of 10 "snapshots" to bring up any of the previously saved mix snapshots....

  41. It does, but only when the module is in Large mode. When it's in Small mode, there's no indicator. That can also be fixed in the Theme Editor too, which I regularly do. It'd be nice if it came like that by default though.

  44. When I was trialing out the latest DAW's I just plugged my guitar in, recorded something through an amp sim and then recorded something over that in the next channel etc. This worked out of the box for all DAW's except Cakewalk, everytime I tried to record something over the last track playback would stop, I thought it was broken or a bug until sometime later I found this in Preferences that was clicked by default? What good is this dialog box? Also things like screen sets vs lenses, I have a list won't put them all down. It might be just as useful to mention the option of asking for features to be removed in this feedback forum ie add "or you would like features removed" to the descriptive text.

  47. You can do this if you know how - it's not very intuitive: Open up both source & destination projects ("Allow only one open project at a time" must be unchecked within Preferences->File->Advanced) Select the tracks from the source project, and save as a track template "Copy Special" the tracks from the source project Insert the track template into the destination project "Paste Special" the tracks into the tracks on the destination project that were created by the template If you copied instrument tracks, extra audio tracks are created at the end - you can delete these. Quick demo:
