  1. "Yorolpal" needs to tell Waves that $14.99 is the NEW best price point! 😀

  2. You're making me feel guilty about neglecting my piano. I haven't played it in months. Or even dusted it, for that matter. Today, however, I did have a cute girl playing it for me. She's only 3, but she'll no doubt do better once her feet can reach the pedals.

  4. I was going to ask some of you guitar guys if you tried this out. The Nembrini Audio dev did the Plugin Alliance amps, and the Lo-Fi Vintage Clipper he gave away awhile ago is great. This one looks really interesting to me. I may have to demo it.

  7. Thanks for your thoughts. As I said, my main concern is with external gear integration. I have a month or so to think so I'll take some time to watch all those Groove3 videos and see how much Cubase could improve these matter compared with I already have. To be honest, the price is also a big factor here. Everything Steinberg is so damn expensive 🤓 that when a deal like this appears its hard to ignore.

  8. While I know a lot of users might argue with me, I think Cubase's MIDI isn't really all that much better than CbB, except for a few things. Those things may be more important to you though. I personally see it as kind of a tie. But I also used Cakewalk since it came on floppy discs, so I'm not sure I can honestly compare the two on everything. I can be productive with either. Nice MIDI things in Cubase that CbB can't do natively/easily/at all that I use (I'm sure there are others, these are the ones that effect me): Chord Pads Expression maps MIDI Sends Chord recognizer (if you place the time line on some MIDI notes Cubase can tell you what cord it is) Quantizer has lots of options Things I hate about Cubase: Non-Windows window management. Every window in Cubase acts crazy in some half-mac/half-Atari SE kind of way. The toolbars all don't work like Windows apps. It drives me mad. When I minimize a project window I don't want to have to also minimize the app menu floating on my screen/etc. You don't delete/remove plugins/synths in Cubase instead you set it to No VST Instrument/No Effect. On paper this sounds fine but when I want to remove a plugin I don't want to scroll to the top of a giant list to select No Effect, I'd rather right click and pick delete. Recording a synth is a lot harder to do than Cakewalk, I almost always have to Google it since I can never remember the steps. They aren't hard but for some reason it bothers me. Included MIDI FX plugins seem kind of weak. Had to buy jBridge to run the handful of 32-bit plugins that I still use. Things I think are pretty much a tie: Built in effects/included synths/etc. I rarely use Cakewalk's and I rarely use Cubase's. Not sure that's a fault of either company though. Thing I miss the most about Cakewalk: Melodyne ARA integration. (this is supposed to show up in Cubase soon though, so I'm really hopeful). On the whole though I think CbB holds it own with Cubase better than most people would think. I'd give Cubase the edge for synths and MIDI but not by an epic amount. If you are thinking about switching one I thing I do think is true, you can't easily use both. You kind of have to commit if you want to get the most out of either app. It's why I rarely use CbB anymore. Not because CbB can't do it, it's just a matter of personal focus.

  9. I went to Cubase after Sonar died. I haven't regretted it (even though Cakewalk is alive and well). Midi and support for external devices in Cubase is unmatched. Expression maps and per note expression are highlights.

  22. I agree...and have for years. I said, when I moved from Cubase to Sonar, under X1, that Sonar's MIDI was nowhere near what was available in Cubase. And what improvements that they have made have been unsubstantial. Sonar's MIDI handling/editing is, as you said, primitive, by comparison. I also said, that my ideal DAW would be Sonar's interface coupled with Cubases MIDI, and other MIDI and Audio editing features.

  23. I moved to Cubase when Cakewalk went down, and like Matt I don't regret it at all - mainly because the midi tools are the best I've used, period. Sonar's midi tools were fine, and I had no trouble using them when I was doing midi work in Sonar (I still fire up Cakewalk for audio work, as I prefer it's overall GUI for audio stuff), but Cubase' tools are top class. I find them intuitive, fast and comprehensive. I think their midi tools are among the best in the business. Combine CbB's audio tools, GUI, and ProChannel with Cubase' midi implementation, and you've have the best DAW ever, IMO.

  25. ACID Pro 8 64bit is very nice. I've been really happy with it. It was worth the $100 to upgrade to me. Even though I don't use it very much. I still love ACID a lot. That said, the idea of paying $100 a year to upgrade ACID is a bit much. It's not advancing that kind of value. But by creating a new even more expensive tier they have devalued the plain 9.0 upgrade even more. If they had only released 9.0 with all the features of ACID Next, for $100 they would get my money. Not right now, but within the next year. Now that there are two levels though, the math is completely different. There isn't any advantage paying so much to get 9.0 and not get "everything" and the price for Next is just beyond crazy. I think going from old SF/Sony ACID to ACID Pro 9 for $100 (I'm rounding) isn't a bad deal. It's not a great deal though, just reasonable. I think they are trying really hard to make their subscriptions the version everyone buys and well I don't see it as something I'm interested in. I sure hope their zynaptiq® STEM MAKER audio source separation technology works better in real life than that video, since it sure didn't sound all that great to me. And the audio examples seemed really weak too, certainly not $400 great.

  28. I'm still waiting for them to give me a compelling reason to upgrade from Acid 7. If anybody wants stems extracted they can just buy a plugin that does that, like Regroover, which is often deeply discounted.

  30. I bought the bundle a while back and haven't used any of them (GAS is to blame!). One issue (possibly a good one) is that they keep updating the plugins so I keep having to re download them to make sure I have the latest ones in case I ever get around to installing them. 🤣 Then again maybe I better have a look at the ones I don't have while they are on offer. Is there an emoji for GAS?

  35. I came so close to pulling the trigger on this my finger was all sweaty. I even began squeezing lightly. I guess if a person is into remixing, MPC etc might make sense. Seems to be the market they're going after. Doesn't make sense for me. I had wondered what the new things were going to be in the new version. This looks like it. CbB makes acid loops, has the matrix and I seldom ever touch it. I wanted to like it. Just can't thus far. Not for what I do.

  42. Same here. My last drink was on New Year's Eve 1986. I can also pinpoint the exact date of my first debilitating hangover: January 1st 1987. It was an out of town gig so we had to drive hours to get home, through terrifying winter conditions. Though fearful of whether or not our bass player's erratic driving might get us killed, I couldn't help but wonder if death might actually be a relief. I was an undiagnosed diabetic at the time, which I'm sure contributed to the intensity of the hangover. It was unpleasant enough to deter me from drinking from then on. Yeah, sometimes I feel like the odd man out as the only sober one in a group. However, I do not begrudge others' drinking. They are enjoying life in their own way, and I am not so arrogant as to tell them that only I know the "right" way to live. Doing so would only give them permission to tell me all the ways I've gotten it wrong. Next thing you know, they're bringing me pamphlets. Noooo! So if you come to my house, you're welcome to have a drink. Just BYOB.

Hold the set marker and rec buttons while connecting the USB cable from your computer. 2. Open the MIDI device window in Sonar, then select nanoKONTROL2 for Input and Output. 3. Open the Controllers/Surfaces window, then select Mackie Control for Control Surface. 4. Select nanoKONTROL2 for the MIDI In/Out ports used. Jack
