  1. Guys, I just noticed the thread is being locked, but stepping in here to give my two cents and hopefully a final word on this thread. Though in the history of the internet (or humanity!) there has never been a situation in which the words "Calm down" ever succeeded in calming things down 😂, I just want to make an honest plea that we try and keep the forum friendly, because it could overshadow the importance of why threads like this are posted in the first place. --- The original comment from @Davydh was that this video was sad to see, and I 100% agree. Any time a user is disappointed by, or has experienced disappointment whilst using one of our products/platforms/services, no matter what the reason or cause, our fault or not - it's disappointing and I am personally sad to have been part of that in some way - even more so if we are personally responsible. I'm happy for people to disagree with my opinion, but hopefully being someone who is directly affected by it means it has some weight - I think it's worth going on record to say my thoughts are that there wasn't any negative intent from Scott at @ChernobylStudios - his video was one of passion, frustration and disappointment, but that's very different to actively trying to disparage the company out of ill intent. I want to go on record too to stress that in all the communication I have seen from Scott with us (as BandLab), he has consistently been passionate, respectful, detailed and always wanting to make things better with suggestions that would benefit all users, not just himself. Since our relaunch, as he correctly pointed out, we have not had yet a policy in which we could compensate creators like himself - he spoke in his livestream of truly loving Cakewalk, caring about it and wanting it to succeed, and I think the proof is in the pudding in the videos he had personally spent the time creating (uncompensated) over the last 12 months since we took over. I sincerely doubt he would actively spend hours of his own personal time creating content that helps people all around the world with a sinister motive down the road. For what he has contributed positively to the CbB community around the world, I don't think it is controversial at all to say that I am grateful and appreciative. Do I wish the cancellation video & subsequent livestream wasn't public? Of course! As someone within the company, the only thing I'd love to see out there is flowers and rainbows (and I am thankful for all of you who have been part of this, spreading the word positively across the internet), but I'm equally a firm believer that every user should be entitled to voice his/her opinion and thoughts in the same way we can do anywhere else on the internet - praise always makes one happier, but criticism is more often than not what makes us better. --- To be clear, the facts of the matter are that he seems to have had a serious issue with VST settings not saving and resetting whilst using CbB and this is a real dealbreaker for us. This is incredibly concerning, and unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at your glass) we, and our extended testing team, have not been able to reproduce this on any of our devices/tests/attempts to do so. From what he described in his video, it sounds like it is not to do with VST2->VST3 persistence, so if it is really the case that something within our code is causing VST settings not to save, this is a big deal and I want to stress to everyone here that this isn't something we take lightly. We are doing everything we can to figure this out and address it as we do with every serious bug report. As per @Morten Saether's post above, this post is also an active call for anyone who has experienced this before and can replicate it to get in touch so that we can try and figure out what is causing it and ensure it doesn't happen again to any other user. --- Finally, it's also important for me to emphasise that just because CbB is free does not mean we take things less seriously or that you should expect any less from us. The way the team lives, breathes and is set up is as if it were a $1000 product that people paid for. My point of view is that anybody who uses a professional product is investing their own personal time, and frankly for a product like a DAW, the time they spend on it is ultimately worth far more than how would have paid for it outright if it was a $400 boxed product - this is a responsibility we take seriously and we are always trying to figure out ways we can support the CbB users better now it has grown so much larger than it was before. Thank you again to everybody for your support and for caring enough about CbB to speak up and to continue to be part of this community. We continue to do everything we can to make the product better - feedback from you guys is why this forum (and CbB itself) exists in the first place. How I wish we could get things done faster. If only there were more than 24 hours in the day! Yours, Meng

  2. This was published some time ago on the old forum, but seeing as there are a number of deals on 'traditional' instruments, I thought I'd highlight this wonderful collection. Totally free, but you will need the full Kontakt player. http://en.catsnu.com/Project/GugakVSTi.aspx I've already used them on a number of songs: including the ones below if you want to hear them in situ: https://hitrecord.org/records/3675876

  3. The 4pre came in from Sweetwater yesterday. All set and ready for a recording session, Friday. Latency is half what the 18i6 2nd Gen was.

  4. This topic is being locked. We are investigating the reported persistence issue and are obviously interested in fixing any known issues. If anyone has a consistently reproducible recipe, please contact support directly at support@cakewalk.com. As far as VST2 -> VST3 plug-in replacement goes, most plug-in vendors do not support persistence transfer, so the plug-in state will always be lost when replacing a VST2 with a VST3. Thanks for any help in getting to the bottom of this issue!

  5. (I have a feeling I may not be the first ever to request/suggest this, but here goes) I would find it very useful if color were one of the Marker properties we could edit. As in this screencap from another editor: Notice I have one color of marker for the start of an event and another for the end of it. Where this is especially useful is when defining the classic sections of a song, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Solo, etc. When I have used this feature in other DAW's, I use a color each to indicate these sections. Makes it easier to spot which marker does what. Make all your tempo change markers one color, etc. I find the ease with which track and strip colors may be set to be a big help in sorting out what's what in Cakewalk, and being able to do something similar with Markers would be great.

  6. No, because there is nothing there original. You cannot add something that doesn't exist in the original format. so going form 44.1 to 48kHz will add nothing to your audio file and it will not take away nothing, except for this: It will be a bigger file and take up more disk space.

  7. This further supports the VST2/VST3 theory... here's SoundSpot KickBox. Notice the extra bypass parameter between "ratio" and "bypass warmth" (parameter 1): This is not the only example - loads of the Waves plugins have this difference between VST2/VST3, except in the Waves case it's usually the first parameter that is the extra "bypass" for VST3.

  8. True. I like them too, but I am not happy to demo it as it seems no way now to resist And I will get another reverb with simple question in mind 'how many reverbs I need?' And when I will master my plugins while I am still buying some new ones

  9. I recommend them. Studio Sessions 1's Preset 001 "GoToDrum" is really, really great and still gives you room to add a Hall (I usually add Rich Venue) and Plate (usually add Cheap EMT) to it.

  12. This usually happens if you have Hyper-V set up. The workaround is to put it on USB memory stick. I did. You loose an USB port, but then again it's easier to move the USB stick to the laptop when needed.

  13. Same boat here gentlemen. I would probably jump on this if I was new to the plugin game. I kinda wanna get rid of most of the plugins I've gotten that way.

  14. Hi everyone, I previously posted about finally finishing my album here: The first track off the album "Bitter" is now available as both a raw multitrack session to mix "from scratch" and a "processed main stems" session to master or remix. If you are interested, can download the files here: http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk.htm#Fytakyte_Bitter Here is the album mix of the track: https://fytakyte.bandcamp.com/track/bitter

  15. I wouldn't worry about it. If SoundCloud wants 48 kHz, then render the output at 48 kHz. The quality of Ozone's sample rate conversion is such that no one will hear a difference anyway.

  16. Some how I knew this was coming. Here's a former Cakewalk user complaining of Lag in Cubase https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=127656 It can happen in any DAW. You failed to list GPU specs. I would start there. I have never had an issue what so ever changing tabs in the multi dock but then again, I've never tried 1000 tracks, not even for "educational" purposes. I see you made this video a few weeks ago.. is this the monitor you are using ? If that is the monitor you are using, refresh rate could be part of the problem.

  17. The LP I have sounds fantastic is easy and very much fun to play. It's exactly and more than I expected and I couldn't be happier with it. It's the LP I would have designed for myself cept now I don't have to. I very much recommend this guitar!

  22. Altho the reply by Blogospherianman didn't work for me; I did discover a workaround. I simply went to the MIDI file which had the tempo map adjusted to the way I wanted it, and created a new midi blank trk. I copied the midi trk into the CPW file and the revised tempo map appeared. Once again, thanks to all. From every mistake I make, you guys really help me to understand the program better. Willard

  24. Great mix, not blown away by the mastering though, sounds like something's could have been cleaned up and other things brought out more. Then again, your choice for a mastering engineer (if you call him that) would have been my last choice ever. Depending on time restraints with my own projects, I might try to take a quick shot at it. That first song "Bitter"... Wow great song.

  25. I feel the same to be honest. Thankfully, for the most part I do things in one take, or if I don't like it I CTRL+Z and do it again. But I do get confused with it. Sometimes I think I've nailed it, then it confuses me again. I must spend some more time with it and document it so I'll remember! If I do get around to writing something up, I'll share it with everyone.

  28. That must mean that you sometimes use Overwrite mode. I have been trying for a long time to find someone who uses that mode so that I can ask them (you) some questions. A large part of my confusion about the mode comes from trying to figure out recording modes from the Documentation page, which is vague and contradictory on the subject. Even with the Reference Guide, which is much better, I still can't quite figure out how it's supposed to work and why I would want to use it instead of Comping mode. I can't figure out if it's supposed to be a destructive mode or what. When I experimented with it on audio, I think it created full WAV files just like the other modes, but deleted some previous clips using rules that I couldn't figure out. Is that the way it's supposed to work (I don't mean the not being able to figure out the rules part, obviously)? If that's how it's supposed to work, I guess I would want to use it in cases where I want to record new information but don't want to have to delete the old clips before I start? Or where I know ahead of time that the last take is going to be the keeper and don't want to have to delete the previous takes? It just seems like a big and dangerous thing to have around just to avoid having to select and delete some clips. If it is destructive, and deletes and crops the WAV file after the recording is done, again, seems dangerous just to save what is now very cheap disk space. There was once when I was testing it and some very strange behavior happened, but I think that was a bug, not a feature. There are probably other reasons for using it that I just don't see, or maybe I don't understand how it's supposed to work, so if you can fill me in, please do. I want to make full use of the program. Every other time I've brought it up, if people even answer at all it's to say that they never use the mode.

  29. The Roland Virtual Sound Canvas appears to be a current product. So, no need for BandLab to offer it, unless by "offer" you mean "include for free with Cakewalk." If we're talking 3rd-party programs we'd like BandLab to put into the Cakewalk package, I have a list of those. Since PluginBoutique seems to put most of the AIR stuff on sale for next to nothing, maybe they could license some of their stuff, although there may be pre-existing agreements that would preclude it. XPand!2 and Hybrid would beef up the package for starters.

  30. technically because CbB is free your not really doing harm by talking or even raving about other software. My approach to making a album is to first try and use the same ""band" that the instruments and settings are close to the same from song to song. Example, I will use the same bass VST using the exact same settings and signal path. Drums I build a kit and then just like a real drummer I might change the only snare. I make notes and try to record all my guitars and vocals using the same pre amps, mikes etc. All songs will share the same buss set up and plug ins with pre sets or use mix recall to share pre sets. Mix recall can be a powerful tool for sharing a set up from song to song. I then export each song and master in Wave Lab. II make sure each song has the same average RMS level. I listen to this on as many systems as possible and take notes. If one song shines as the best I then see why and copy it's mix recall to other songs. After a few rounds the "album" has good glue and even if the styles are different it sounds more like a concert of a live band. My wife is very critical of when my songs don't sound the same.

  31. The pesky Stienberg generic asio driver does cause problems for many, I deleted it from my system following some obscure instructions. You don't need the driver for any of Stienbergs software if you already have a proper interface. Cubase and Wave Lab still work fine for me without the generic driver. For screen capture it gets tricky with ASIO as many programs don't seem to recognize all the ports. I solved the problem by using a small mixer to loopback my DAW playback to the capture program. I plugged my mike into the mixer and I can easily adjust the DAW playback and the mike levels. That way the DAW is running in proper full ASIO.

  36. This uses ilok for it's latest edition, which I don't like. However, when you purchase, you do get access to version 1.2 in your account, which does not use ilok and it has nearly the same feature set as the ilok one. Also, check your PSP accounts and see if you get a better deal.

  41. I don't know if you owned Sonar previously so therefore have access to the wealth of plug-ins, but if you do, I think you'll find this article helpful. Even if you have only CbB, I still think the comments on workflow might help, and of course, the Sonitus effects can do most of what you need. I also wrote an article on how to do continuous, DJ-style mixes in Cakewalk, which might be applicable. Cakewalk is not really designed for album assembly, so you'll need a different program for that. For me, the best option is Studio One, but the Artist version doesn't offer this feature so you would need to pay the $$ for the Pro version. On the other hand if you've always wanted a deep editing program, then Magix Sound Forge or Steinberg Wavelab do album assembly as well as editing. The workflow varies for different people. I take non-processed, mixed tracks recorded in Cakewalk, bring them into Studio One's project page, and do any processing there. That way I can use SO's analytics to compare the various tracks in context, as well as its plug-ins. For maximization and dithering, my favorite plug-in is the Waves L3. However, the Adaptive Limiter is excellent if you have it. Hope this helps, I'd be happy to help with any follow-up questions.

  42. I thought I had double checked every routing source. I could hear everything; it was doubly confusing. So in Console Mode I inserted all the modules, and what do I see in the Send Module? A routing to a Reverb bus whose output was set to...NONE. I wasn't doing anything with that bus yet, and had never gotten the pop up before, but oh well. I love it when the solution is simple. Now, don't ask me how the send got changed. Maybe I set it up wrong to start with, but that would mean the pop up was tardy. Who cares? I'm so happy it's working!

  43. Could the picture cache be causing the wave form drawing issues? Back in the days of Sonar, if wave forms were not being drawn or displayed, folks would often find it fixed after deleting the contents of the Picture Cache folder. Sonar, and almost certainly now Cakewalk by Bandlab, simply recreates any drawn wave form data it needs, if the wave forms aren't found in the Picture Cache folder. Here is a link from the old Sonar forums, it is to a post within a larger thread about the Picture Cache, and confirms that any data you clear out will get rebuilt as needed. This used to be something folks would just need to do sometimes - not sure I ever saw reasons as to why there were occasional issues with the Picture Cache data. One other thing I had not known, but it is suggested that the Picture Cache default location be left to be created on the C:// drive. (I have relocated the Cakewalk Content and Cakewalk Projects folders, but have not had any issues with Picture Cache contents, thus far). http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/633036 Bob Bone

  45. Well I'm through it all, have to say your voice cuts through a bit like a mix between Joe Walsh / Glen Frey ... in fact there's an Eagles 'feel' to a some ( not all) of your songs IMO ...all good. Some riffs seem similar all be it with different timings (Celebrity chef/ The Ballad Of Charles and Harry) but the songs I really liked was ' Lean & The Ballad Of Charles and Harry. I would be proud If I had written these songs, so that's a big thumbs up from SPAK ... for what that's worth !🤔 Keep'um coming ( BTW Hope you get loadsa sales on Spot) SPAK
