  1. You can use Top Ten Software's Cantabile to do the same type of things as Main Stage. Cantabile presents all your virtual-instruments and plugins as a virtual Rack of gear. You use Scenes (similar to a multi-patch) to setup advanced splits/layers. You can remap/scale controllers, etc. You may also want to look at Ableton Live. Lots of worship teams us Live. Advanced click-tracks (clicks, count-downs, sections called out) Tempo can be stored with each song Can host virtual-instruments and can be programmed to seamlessly switch between advanced splits/layers Can be programmed to disable unused virtual-instruments for each song (greatly conserving CPU) If a worship team member is absent; you can have all parts prepared in Live (muted)... and just un-mute the needed part Virtual-Instruments can be played live Samples can be triggered live Watch some videos showing worship teams using Live. Pretty amazing...

  5. Hope it's Ok to post this here... if not, feel free to publicly flog me I decided to brush the brain dust off my C++/COM/UI programming and write some plugins for Cakewalk... The first (little) one is a MidiFX plugin called CSHumanize... because randomization is easy It's basically a replacement for the CAL script "Humanize" with a couple minor enhancements. It's free and available at my new, hastily set up site http://viramor.com if you'd like to test it out. It's 64-Bit only, but if any of you CAVEMEN still using 32-Bit OS's are interested, I'll compile a version for you. Yeah, I know you can add randomization with the Quantize plugin, but this one's a slightly different shade of blue

  6. Hello, Edit: 23 March 2019 I decided it could be helpful to include a list of upcoming tutorial videos and their links. The video below is the first video in the playlist, but if you are interested in a specific topic, check the following list for quick navigation. If there is no link for it yet, it means I haven't uploaded it. I can take requests, but keep in mind that I run another business on top of my actual Chernobyl Studios audio work, so if I like the idea, it'll get put on the list and I'll get to it when I get to it. I have a channel on YouTube that I created many years ago for creating Cakewalk SONAR Platinum tutorials. I constantly get questions, comments, and requests on those old videos I did years ago. I'm updating all of the Cakewalk videos I did for SONAR Platinum to Cakewalk by Bandlab. There are three videos currently online, with 4 more already scheduled to come out this week. Please share this playlist with anybody who is getting started with Cakewalk by Bandlab. I am starting from the very basics and will work all the way through mixing an entire song. It will take a few weeks, but it will be worth it. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  11. This uses ilok for it's latest edition, which I don't like. However, when you purchase, you do get access to version 1.2 in your account, which does not use ilok and it has nearly the same feature set as the ilok one. Also, check your PSP accounts and see if you get a better deal.

  14. Thanks cclarry I think the main question I had with these sales was , Should I buy individual plugins or wait for the package deals? In my case it was kinda both. I bought a handful of the singles at good prices. Around the holidays they had a good deal on the packages. It can be redundant if the packages have the same plugins. If you only plan to use a few waves plugins this is excellent. I highly recommend the package deals as well. Once you buy one package it's less to jump to the next one up. If you buy Waves Silver, upgrade to gold is less.

  15. Yes I realize that, there are more references to the issue other than those 2, it's just that Grem's reference to James(Sharke's) issues gave me a reference to search, otherwise finding the other references to the issue would be more difficult, and I just couldn't be bothered. The 'only additional information' was to show that there are indeed others with the issue, as you seem to be saying that the only person with the issue was the dude that done the video, which is simply not true, and seeing as you yourself had the issue . . . well, although you found a way around it with a workaround, in true Cakewalk fashion, the issue still remains. I don't understand your reticence to search out references on the old forums, because remember they were still functioning as THE forum almost 1 year after Bandlab took over, this forum has only been up for what 4 months or so?, so it's not like the old forum is 100% SONAR, but as John Lennon said 'Whatever gets you through the night, it's alright, it's alright" I had the issue myself way back mainly with OVERLOUD's TH2 and DDMF's IIEQPro, they would continually loose themselves. One thing you will note if you checked out some of the references from the old forums, is that it only happened in Cakewalk/SONAR, it would never happen in any other DAW the people used, I also found that myself, only in SONAR. Anyway, it's no skin off my nose if the issue never gets sorted, I jumped ship 4+ years ago, just here for the deals and the giggles.

  16. The one I was talking about which refers to James, aka Sharke from the old forums, and shows others have had the issue. It's been happening for a long time and never fixed. It may not affect everyone, or even most, but it affects enough to be a 'real' issue and not just make believe. But like I said, there is more if you care to look.

  17. I never use Simple Instrument Tracks, because I recall folks having different issues with them, little glitches of one kind or another, over the years, so I basically don't trust them (Disclaimer, this may well be an irrational and baseless reaction, on my part). Another reason I do not use them, is that I almost always create a separate mono audio track for the left and the right output of any soft synth plugin instance, or for any instrument plugin in a multi-rack instance of a synth like Kontakt. The reason I choose to do that, it because I want to leave myself the option to treat one side or the other (left or right), with effects, like inserting a slight delay on one side or the other, or slightly tweaking the reverb on one side or the other. Maybe lots of folks don't do that, it is just something I have always done for my projects. I don't always treat one side differently - I just like to leave myself the option to do so. Bob Bone

  18. Here's a current thread with some people experiencing it. The problem is, that no-one can reproduce the issue reliably. I use the same plugins as some of the ones mentioned in the thread and can't reproduce the problem either. Even the people who are experiencing the issue say it only happens sometimes.

  21. Let me see if I can help. 1. Open your project in Cakewalk and start it playing . While playback is in progress mute the master bus. Is it then silent? If you don't have silence there is a routing problem. If it is silent then... 2. Adjust the master fader so that the volume never peaks above -1 (at this point most people don't go above -3). 3. Instead of exporting the mix, bounce it to a new track (Select all, then click the Tracks tab in the Track View header and then click the Bounce to Tracks option - the Bounce menu will open - in the source category choose buses and then highlight only the Master bus then click OK). 4. When the bounce is complete, solo the resulting track and route it's output directly to the hardware output. Play it back. It should sound exactly the same as the mix (if it does not come back here and let us help you figure out why). If it sounds right trim any unwanted time from the beginning and the end, add fade in and fade out, then bounce the clip to itself (If you want it to play back a little louder you can Normalize it to -1). 5. Select your finished clip (rename it now from the right click menu if you wish) and export it (don't use the Export button- instead use File/Export/Audio - in the Source Category choose Clips - set your desired sample rate, bit depth, and dither). When exporting clips there is no need to enter a file name. The clip name will be the name of the resulting file. I hope this helps. FWIW I never export mixes. The above method may seem complicated but once you have done it a couple of times you will see the logic behind it... Or not.

  28. My general rule is it's okay to mention other programs if they have elements that complement CbB. I've been using Sonar since version and Studio One's project page since version 1. The project page is much simpler than the song page. You might also want to read up on LUFS as well for info on balancing levels.

  29. I don't know if you owned Sonar previously so therefore have access to the wealth of plug-ins, but if you do, I think you'll find this article helpful. Even if you have only CbB, I still think the comments on workflow might help, and of course, the Sonitus effects can do most of what you need. I also wrote an article on how to do continuous, DJ-style mixes in Cakewalk, which might be applicable. Cakewalk is not really designed for album assembly, so you'll need a different program for that. For me, the best option is Studio One, but the Artist version doesn't offer this feature so you would need to pay the $$ for the Pro version. On the other hand if you've always wanted a deep editing program, then Magix Sound Forge or Steinberg Wavelab do album assembly as well as editing. The workflow varies for different people. I take non-processed, mixed tracks recorded in Cakewalk, bring them into Studio One's project page, and do any processing there. That way I can use SO's analytics to compare the various tracks in context, as well as its plug-ins. For maximization and dithering, my favorite plug-in is the Waves L3. However, the Adaptive Limiter is excellent if you have it. Hope this helps, I'd be happy to help with any follow-up questions.

  30. I took the weekend off from all things musical, but I'm back. Tom, as always, you have some of the most interesting ideas, and I've used most of them in the past. Your idea of knocking off the intro is intriguing, and I may use it when I make a video of this song. (It just makes sense to have an album version and an MTV version) Thanks for your time and consideration. Bjorn, thanks a million for your kind comments. It gives me confidence. Steve, your words mean a lot to me, as I'm one of your biggest fans. Douglas, I appreciate your time and comments very much. I'll have to look up Peter Droge, though the name sounds familiar. p.s.-I'm listening to Peter Droge now, and I don't know how I've missed him.

  31. Bjorn, this is a sad song just from the lyrics point of view, yet, the music is almost uplifting. I think some of your phrasing is a bit awkward, but the message comes through clearly. Your voice has an unique quality that you're beginning to tap into, and it gives me the impression of sincerity. You have surprised me quite a bit over time, and I always look forward to your next song.

  33. I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I generally agree with him, however RIck makes a few assumptions: The song is already written & arranged It's being performed by a full band The band can actually physically play together (i.e. they're not spread around the world) Assuming the above, then what he says makes sense. What he doesn't account for though, is unfinished songs, one-man bands or remote collaborations. Not all bands perform - some just record. Arranging unfinished songs is much more difficult if you're not quantised to a grid, and the results are usually less than satisfactory unless they are. Personally I find natural variations in dynamics are far more important for feel than variations in timing. I do agree with him being against quantising audio tracks after the fact. Playing to a click is fine by me, but editing the timing of a performance afterwards (unless it clearly way out), isn't desirable. I guess once you've finished a song, you could record your part again from start to finish by just playing each part along to the original, and not quantise anything. I've done this before with a band, and it works pretty well, but it's not quite the same as a band playing together. If studio space is an issue, a better approach would be to record the band to play the song in full together in a rehearsal studio (even if it's recorded on an iPhone), transfer that track to the studio, and then record each part separately against that. But for one-man-bands & remote collaborations, you're limited in your options, and click tracks/quantising is your friend in these scenarios.

  35. Lynn Really like all the playful accompanying sounds in the background. Kind of unusual melodic phrases that complement each other very well and stick in your head for a long time. Outstanding lyrics too and as usual your vocal performance is top notch. Well done!

  36. more reverb on the horn stabs? I like the arpeggiations you have chosen - the panned right guitar one might be a bit loud when you are singing. I dig the guiro!! Vocals sure do work, and the ghostly, poltergeistish bgv's are a very cool, supporting add. It's a memorable and yes quirky song! For me your sung melody is integral to understanding the arrangement of the other voices - which means, for me, the intro section was kind of the low point. When the song starts, I was having a really hard time figuring out what it was doing. If this were my tune A) I'd be quite proud indeed! and B) I'd whack the entire intro right off, and start it with one go 'round of the chorus. Your vocals I think would be a much better early hook. Just my .02 brain cells on that one . . . call it a win, Lynn. cheers, -Tom

  41. So sad. I really used to think that this was a pretty decent group of really helpful people. Now, not so much, especially looking at threads like this. But I guess it's just that the virtual world mirrors the real world in that there are always a few a$$holes in a RW club/organization. It's the same in the virtual world too. Unfortunate. If you don't want to watch a guy's tutorials, for whatever reason, just don't watch them. If he's acting like a crybaby, ignore him. I'm sure we're all better than the actions of some of the folks who've participated in this thread. Is it too much to ask to act civil and respectful to each other? We all have a common interest and a love for music. We should be helping each other instead of putting the other guy down. ๐Ÿ˜ŸJB
