1. NovatrAC Free download here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dLmxFn6ZG5h3iA8FN7Fyn9FblXLqWyId?usp=sharing&fbclid=IwAR1AT1r-pP_SvASo4vNmUUL2B-NttvkADwPkFdmM_QPs5i13tDj0BC5NZZA Today I present my new Theme > NovatrAC <. While AnalogConsole is a quite sober theme for long mixing sessions, NovatrAC is a bit like sweet candy. It's inspired by the unrivaled creative Plug-Ins of Kush Audio TM (thanx Gregory / UBK 😉 !). Hope you like it!

 3. Yes but you don't have to go fishing through 3 or 4 tabs. This is exactly what Screensets were made for. I leave Screenset #1 for basics This is where Screenset #2 takes place. This is where # 3 takes over. This way you can press numbers on the Keyboard 1-10 to cycle through smaller views. I've studied this Multidock Tab thing for many years trying to find the most productive way to view/work. the Screensets are a great tool. But we all work differently, so what might be good for me, might not work for you.

 4. That would be the one I'm interested in as well.....however, I wasn't all that thrilled with RockRack (wasn't bad, but didn't give me that 'wow' factor).

 6. Thanks for all your well-wishes, everyone. Lots of longtime friends here I'd be sad to bid goodbye to. My absence here has just been due to a new emphasis on live performance that's stolen the focus away from recording. As many of you know, I reluctantly joined a band after the death of my wife, as a way to combat the natural instinct to withdraw from an abruptly empty world. Every piece of advice I came across said to remain social and encourage human connections. That band decision was made reluctantly because, frankly, most live music hurts my ears. But making a not-awful band has given me purpose. Truthfully, it's still a work-in-progress. The band still sucks, but not as badly as it used to. And not as badly as most bar bands I hear, to be honest. It's not a high bar. Even though my voice will never be where it was in my 30's when I sang 6 nights a week, my keyboard chops are better now than they've ever been. Calmer, more tasteful and thought-out. Gone is the need to impress strangers with lightning-fast licks, replaced by a desire to simply serve the song. My doctors insisted that I not play piano for at least a week, lest I rip open the wrist incision and bleed out. That meant cancelling this weekend's gig. Damn. I also can't drink coffee, which, ironically, has encouraged insomnia. That has left me in a strange waking-dream state, but maybe that'll actually be conducive to creativity. Lemonade, you know. BTW, Sean Costello's new delay is really good.

 7. Thank you Jim [ I promise *not* to call you Mr. Roseberry again :-) ] for your pithy summation. You have prevented me from digging too deep into the weeds on this topic to develop an answer that fits my neurotic approach to technical questions. I was reading through this document in my non-existent 'spare' time [ https://www.mindshare.com/files/ebooks/pci express system architecture.pdf ] In its 1038 pages, it covers all the stuff about PCIe function, but of course leaves it to the reader to infer how an "aggressive" driver would cause citizenship problems within the overall system. This document may still be handy for my project to get a GC-Titan-Ridge Thunderbolt working properly in my 2010 Mac Pro. We'll see. Okay, back to the original topic! Thanks to all!

 10. Hi guys, I hope all of you have had an incredible 2018 and are looking forward to winding down (if you haven't already) for the Christmas period. For everyone around the world on the BandLab Technologies, BandLab (and CbB) team, it's been a mad 12 months with a tremendous amount of milestones reached, but one of the crowning highlights was of course getting the opportunity to get to know this particularly community better and to bring Cakewalk into being part of our group journey. It feels like only yesterday we were releasing the news, and I hope you guys haven't felt that we have let you down in the months since. We have seen an amazing take-up of Cakewalk since we relaunched the product as Cakewalk by BandLab - far beyond even our own expectations. As I mentioned in a blog post yesterday about reaching 5 million users earlier this month on BandLab - we are humbled by the support, feedback and passion with which you, the community, engage with us, the product and each other. There are too many names to thank, but none of what we have today with Cakewalk would have been possible without Noel, Ben and their desire and vision to be part of the opportunity forward with us here at BandLab. So with that, an early Christmas present we have for all of you is the launch of the new forum! As promised, we wanted to make sure the old format lived on - topics, threads and an incredible resource for anyone getting to know the product. It's not been ideal that we had to turn off new sign ups to forum.cakewalk.com, especially for the massive community of new users who have flooded in around the world to start using Cakewalk - but we hope it was worth the wait. It's a little empty at the moment and is really a clean slate, so please make yourselves feel at home. Forums only exist to serve the community that lives within them so instead of seeding content we thought it would be best to leave it fresh for you to jump in and get comfortable. Instead of the previous situation where nothing can be hosted on the site - we've also decided to launch with everyone having 50MB of usable space per user and there's also a snazzy new BandLab integration (written by Jesse) that allows you to leverage our embeddable players to share your music with other members of the community. Notifications and emails are also all working, though you may experience a couple of emails going to spam, especially if you use Gmail, so make sure you check in that folder if you can't find any notifications from the forum. Jumping in is easy, just like this forum was accessed via a single sign-on Cakewalk account - this is now the case with your BandLab account and you can connect straight through and set up your profile. I hope you guys will like the new home and we look forward to sharing more about the things we've got in the roadmap for the year ahead. If any of you are planning to be at NAMM in Anaheim for the January show, please also don't hesitate to reach out and stop by to say hello! Much love, Meng & all on the BandLab Team p.s please also send your appreciation to @Jesse Jost and @laurent for their hard work in getting this place up and running amongst all the other things they are working on! ------ Why did we create this new site for the forum instead of continuing to use the old one? As I'm sure you'll notice, the new site allows us to develop on a much stronger infrastructure and architecture for the go forward - providing our users the opportunity to create new accounts (sorry!) but also to introduce more forum tools, user storage, Q&A discussions for better technical engagement, community voting and more. The new site also helps to provide a fresh start for the go-forward whilst not destroying the structure of the old site and potentially affecting the value of it as a resource to the community. Will the old forum go away? In a couple of weeks' time, the old forum will become read-only, at which point you will no longer be able to post. However, we feel (and have taken your recommendations) that it remains a vital resource for the long term and we intend to keep it hosted and to remain in its current place at https://forum.cakewalk.com.

 11. With the old Cakewalk forum soon to be frozen, I’m adding links to the themes Gran Vista and Carbon here as well for easy access and future updates. Gran Vista Black & Blue This theme is called Gran Vista as some of the design elements are inspired by the graphical user interface once found in Windows Vista. Some would say that look is dated, but hey – so am I. There are four slightly different versions of this theme. Gran Vista Black & Blue 000 No gloss on the PC modules and some other design elements being non-glossy as well, such as the track icons. This is a theme for the serious production-centric user. Download from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEbGpfDomY4iiHPfY Gran Vista Black & Blue 030 Using 30% opacity on the gloss layer makes for a matte look-and-feel. This is a theme for the quite serious production-centric user who doesn’t want to have too little or too much of just about anything. Download from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEdCAuHOsrCAeaNP4 Gran Vista Black & Blue 060 Using 60% opacity on the gloss layer gives a subtle glare. This is a theme for the more casual production-centric user who, in the middle of a mixdown, still can appreciate some black plastic. Download from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEbfXIwcxnm-Y-WPA Gran Vista Black & Blue 100 Full 100% opacity on the gloss layer. This is actually the original theme I made, something for all of us who likes shiny, black plastic without reservations. Download from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEblAVDPH9Yip3v7A Carbon The Carbon theme is for the really serious production-centric purist. It has an even darker look and also a flat, non-glossy Control Bar. All other design elements are shared with Gran Vista Black & Blue 000. Download from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEcOCxvwxFeFGalk4 Matching CA-2A Skins Those using the Gran Vista or Carbon themes and also the Cakewalk CA-2A ProChannel module might find that the module’s brushed aluminum stands out like a sore thumb against the dark theme. As I lately needed to spend some quality time with my procrastinations, I’ve also created matching dark skins for each theme variant, plastic knobs and all. For consistency, I also did likewise with the non-ProChannel effect (not shown here). As CA-2A predates SONAR/CbB themes and hasn’t been made aware of them, replacing the default skin can’t be done through a theme update. It involves some manual tweaking, but it’s still very easy. Instructions on how to install and uninstall the graphical resources are supplied in a pdf that comes with the zip file. After downloading, please begin by reading those instructions before proceeding. The zip file containing all the matching CA-2A skins can be downloaded here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEdYUVehZD7U-0cMY Background If the unlikely event that anyone would like to see the old thread describing the development of these themes, here’s the proper place to look. That thread also contains a few more preview images. Here's also a link to the Release History of these themes: https://1drv.ms/b/s!AmXDCxaGb7JEdu3To6t7ZeQmmAo Some final words: Please be patient when starting a download. Microsoft OneDrive is often painfully slow when responding to a download request.

 12. My comments were in the locked thread, but after way too many hours, I read that people were having a hard time with the latest W10 update if Avast or a couple other programs were installed. Although Malwarebytes wasn't on the list, I uninstalled it and tried again to update. Again, after updating, I got a BSOD. After a restart, the problem sorted itself out, and the system now seems to be stable. I've noticed in the past that when Windows gives BSODs, just keep turning off and rebooting. Eventually either Windows figures out what's wrong, does an sfc /scannow disc repair, or lets you go into advanced troubleshooting where you can at least try to fix things. Don't think Macs are exempt, either. Last night I was informed I needed a Safari and security update. After doing so, my MacBook Pro couldn't boot into the OS. Instead, it said the installation could not be completed, and displayed an error log. The local Mac store walked me through four different procedures, each more invasive than the last one. The fifth one was opening in Restore mode and downloading the OS from scratch, which let me use the Mac again. At least it doesn't make you re-install your programs, but still, IMHO today's computers are a house of cards. I have great sympathy for any company trying to develop for today's computers, let along remain compatible with yesterday's.

 13. Well, not literally. I didn't actually die. Saw it up close, though, and through the haze of excruciating pain I accepted that possibility as a welcome relief. But for the fourth time, medical technology brought me back. Looks like the book of my life has at least one more chapter to go before it concludes. Whatever the contents of that chapter may be, I'm confident that the subject of what's the best delay plugin isn't gonna be in it.

 14. Water to the Sand, my 7 track mini album has been sent for release. Release date will be - in keeping with my superstition about numbers - on the 3/5 (or 5/3 for my US friends) - That's 7 tracks on the 3 of the 5....all prime numbers - not bad! For those who would like a pre-release listen, you can stream the album in its entirety on Soundcloud, complete with captured sound interludes of nature. Listen for free here: https://soundcloud.com/53mph/water-to-the-sand-entire-album And remember, your support will help me to keep making music.;) I'm finding it harder and harder to make music these days due to time constraints and family...but then, don't we all.

 23. FWIW I use screensets to give me this sort of functionality. So for example, screenset 2 only has the Console View in the multidock, whereas screenset 3 has PRV and Event List. I think this is actually quicker than having to manually arrange the tabs to what you want, as you just press 2 for screenset 2, 3 for screenset 3 etc.

 27. Gibson has been thru the wringer (mostly due to ULM decisions)... but they're still a Heritage musical instrument company. The Les Paul is a classic/staple guitar... that's more than withstood the test-of-time. Even withstood minEtune... 😁 I think this leads some to almost want to find fault with Gibson guitars. "They're too expensive" "They're too heavy" "Upper fret access is poor (compared to other designs)" I do think that (at times) QC could have been better. If you pull a Standard off the wall at GC (where it's been used/abused for months), that can taint experience/opinion. I had a R9 for a couple of years. Ultimately sold it because I prefer other designs (ergonomics). I still consider that R9 one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Plug it into a decent Marshall amp... and it's instant Rock guitar.

 28. People have given you some good suggestions but I have one that others have maybe not mentioned. Have someone else mix your music or at least listen to it to give you feedback. If you really do have some hearing issues, many of us do, you will need someone else to help you judge any moves you make anyway.

 29. too many variables to a good bass sound, to put a 'preset' mentality to it.... in my case, i go for different bass tones on every song, so i'm always chasing this issue. as others have said, starting with a high pass filter (low end cutoff) is a good place to start. i like to use an EQ that allows for a sharp rolloff, 48 is my starting point for the Q take the freq control, and while the bass line is playing WITH THE MUSIC (don't ever do this with the bass solo'd), roll the HPF up until you actually hear the bass start to drop off.... then roll it back down until the bass thickens back up. this is your starting point. then, look at an eq that shows active freq range, and find the one freq that always sticks up way above the rest of the freqs, and drop this freq down the same amount as it sticks up (4db, 5db, 6db, etc). use a Q on this freq that starts around 2, then spread it out or sharpen it til you get what you want. a lot of times, dropping these freqs makes the bass sound weaker at first. just bring up the fader! using a nice compressor to help with balancing overall levels is pretty typical as well.

 30. This may sound counter-intuitive, but I find putting a high pass filter on the bass can help tremendously, especially if it's competing with the kick drum. In saying that, it might actually be a bass build up on other tracks. Try high passing every other track: move the roll-off frequency up until you can just hear a difference, then back it off.

 31. That "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed." " <- is usually because the original install disk cant be accessed ... its Dsim (Win installer system related . It can make changes to the core of Windows). btw the "sfc /scannow" is a bit naughty the way they have it set up.. it will put all your preferences back to win 10 defaults (restore spyware etc if you disabled it). Think you only get 3 chances at a key ... then you have to phone m/s tech support .. at whatever their crazy phone charges are per minute. Could you have possibly unplugged a HD and plugged it into another sata port...or maybe added a hd aftter installing Win off of some boot media? Seems like it's looking for a particular drive that probably housed the install media, say a drive E or I or whatever. Unfortunately, without seeing it, it is tough to be sure. This is only a guess. Suggest that after you resolve this situation, you use third party clone ware from this point forward. I would suggest you get a copy of Hirens Boot Disk. It will not only find your product key, but has AOMEi backup on it which is a free, but excellent cloning backup program. I have done three backups in the last two weeks because of the work situation here. I usually schedule it while I am sleeping. Wake up and I am good to go. Wish I had more to offer you Craig. Good luck.
