  2. Just a heads up - I just ran my Sonokinetic Manager and found that it had an update. It may have been a couple of months since I last checked it so this may be old news. Also there's a minor update to Ostinato Woodwinds (v1.1 documentation fix) and for some reason it says I need to reinstall Ostinato Strings. I only have a small # of their libraries so possibly there are other updates.

  5. Doesn't stop him from recording on ProTools. 😉 It's not the computer's fault. The adage "GIGO" has just morphed into "Garbage In -> Turd Polisher -> Somewhat less-stinky garbage out". I prefer to think of it as democratization. We all have the option of quantizing or not, pitch correcting or not, comping 34 takes or grabbing it live in one pass. Or choose a key other than Am. The computer might allow me to drain someone's bank account, but it doesn't demand it. BTW, I am a big fan of Rick Beato. If you like his content, look up his buddy Adam Neely, who does a great job explaining music theory.

  6. I think you mean time stretch, not tempo change? This was changed quite a while ago to be in conformance with the Melodyne keyboard shortcut. Hold down Ctrl+Shift while you click and drag. Or choose F8 for the timing tool. Note that this doesn't work on acidized or REX files, only conventional WAV files.

  9. Is it Instrument track, or is it MIDI track? If it is Instrument Track, try to split the track (right clik on the track number, and select Split track). There may be automation data in the audio part of the VSTi track. If its MIDI track, try to create new MIDI track, and copy the problematic clips into that new track, and then try bounce the new clips. Hope it helps...

  10. It'd be great to have the ability to mark the end of the song, or truncate all remaining measures. Having vast amounts of empty measures causes problems for me when bouncing tracks. If I forget to select the range, CW selects all the empty measures, and then I have to restart the bounce. Otherwise it'll compile for hours. Thx

  11. I had decided that keeping tropical fish was a good hobby for me. I was told it could be very relaxing. Hence I ventured downtown to the local pet store and asked the assistant if I could purchase a Siamese Fighting Fish. "Sure" he replied, "Would you like an aquarium?" To which I retorted, "Well to be honest, I don't really care what star sign it is". True story that, apart from the bits that are not. 🐟

  13. Agree with Larry on this one. The Stealth is really good and clean. However, this Lindell 254E is a really great sounding plugin. (I like all of Lindell's stuff because they sound really good.) It has character for sure. But it's the really good kind. Reminds me of Waves' Abbey Road stuff with the good sound.

  17. When there's a locked plug-in I really want to use, I use the closest plug-in in the program I'm using. Before mixing, I export a premix and the file I want to process in the other DAW, render it, and bring it back into the main DAW. Sure, that's less convenient than having cross-program plug-ins, but it's better than not using plug-ins at all.

  18. IMHO, the clean no non-sense UI and the bucket load of features make it worth it. That said, I find I reach for Boz's The Wall more often because it is just so nice on the CPU and easy to set up. People seem to love Limiter No. 6 but I have found the UI a little clunky and the CPU hit. BTW, Tokyo Dawn came out with a paid version of this that looks great. Oh! The Wall is on sale! I HIGHLY recommend it! Get that! https://www.bozdigitallabs.com/product/the-wall/

  20. Yeah this is just the producers and drummers’ fault. They want to play perfect and don’t want to know it ruin the groove. As with Auto-Tune too. You can miss use everything. And in my opinion that is what they have done with much of POP music today. And some people think that great singer sounds bad because they ant heavy pitch corrected, then hey have ben ruined to not love life and what life is. When programming drums you can’t start to think like this or even take it into account. Ether way you can end up with drum machine sound or end up with drums sounding like a not so good drummer. Lol. And for pitch. I think its great to have tools that can fix things. I have many perfect takes but one note (ore section) was ether wrong or bad, now you can give the singer a break and just fixt this small thing. Listen to Ken Tamplin talking about the 80 and recording vocals. They used to record 80 – 250 tracks of vocal, depends on the studio and the vocalist, but they wanted to try out different flair and techniques in the vocal that took time in the studio. Now you can do it so much faster with a few tracks and just make the parts you want fit together with Melodyne. And another think. Not every rock artist can record as a band live in the studio. And saying that “that” is what’s wrong is just stupid. It’s like my classmate in the 80’s stated that only Iron Maiden is true music because they are the only one on the scene playing as a band (live together) in the studio. Yeah cool for them. But for others that has other ways of recording songs, that’s cool too. It is the end result that’s what people hear anyways. And like Bach and Brandenburg concertos, I bet he newer heard them played himself. As I have heard, they were made as a job CV to show what he could do. And was put in a drawer and laid there for 100 years. So, is those Concertos bad because there was no live performance involved in the composition and making of the music? And I dont have 2 cents. I have NOK... Do you guys take that? Or can anyone change i 1 Norwegian Krone to 2 cents?

If you want to change that too, go to: edit > 1 Preferences > 2 Colors > 3 All Colors > 4 Vertical Measure Lines and/or Vertical Beat Lines > 5 Choose Color > 6 ok > 7 Save (without title) > 8 Apply > 9 OK done

  25. Ducbar Preview 2: I redesigned Waveform cache window. Now it shows green, yellow or red bar depending on the fill level of the cache. Things you can do in Waveform cache window: - Set cache size [MB] - Change cache folder location - Clear cache or - Clear cache but leave recent files intact. This is one of my personal favorite features in Duckbar as I handle lots of audio files and cache gets filled with thousands of files weekly. If cache folder size is larger than the limit then Cakewalk / SONAR fails to create any new waveform previews. Cakewalk does not warn this in any way but Duckbar is always aware of the cache fill level and notifies user if it's getting too full.

  30. As long as your reasonable about what to expect these are great. And since they aren't included in any of the Waves bundles (Mercury/etc) are safe buys. But you can't add TG12345/REDD to every channel and expect to record audio with low latency. Some channel strip plugins you can really add to every track/etc but not these. Buses and mixing can work just fine though. And it's not your computer and more cores/ram won't help. Still worth getting though.

  31. So edgy. I'm making videos on my YouTube channel for people who have been requesting that I do so since the day Bandlab took over. I bring actual content and value. That content and value also comes with criticism. I'll be happy when I don't have to suffer moronic comments such as yours when my tutorials are finished.

  35. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to now. There was a short time period after BandLab took over where you could still register products at the old cakewalk.com, but this was stopped at the same time new registrations on the old cakewalk site were disabled. It's a pity, because if you had redeemed it at the time, it would still be downloadable for you (as with all the other old cakewalk products). I hope BandLab get back to you with some better news.

  36. That's done. First, someone told me to disable the onboard sound device in the Bios, finally I unabled it again yesterday and assigned Windows sound. The problem some run into when running a their DAW audio interface as the default Windows audio device is the DAW and Windows are not configured to run the same sample rate. If one has projects at different sample rates, it may be convenient to run Windows audio through the onboard chip to avoid having to deal with the sample rate mismatch issue.

  37. I just tested the 64bit VST version of Bigcat's Sonatina Trombone. As a rule, I install plug-ins in manufacturer folders in the default VST folder. In this case I unzipped "Sonatina_Trombone_-_64.zip" into "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\bigcat\Sonatina Trombone." After unzipping into this folder, it contained a file called "Sonatina Trombone - 64.dll" and a "Sonatina Trombone - 64.instruments" containing a file called "Sonatina Trombone - 64.mse" I have CbB set to automatic background scan so, starting up CbB the scanner found the new synth. After adding the synth to a new project, it played OK.

  38. I use the smart tool almost exclusively. To make multiple selections with the smart tool - after the initial selection (right-click+drag to lasso with the smart tool), hold the CTRL key and repeat the right-click+drag to lasso more notes. Here is a small video - after the initial selection the CTRL key is held the rest of the time to select and deselect notes across two clips.

  39. Thanks, everyone, for the tips. It is so much easier getting started with a new DAW when one can rely on advice from experienced users. For example, it might have taken me several hours to figure out what scook showed in his above post concerning the TTS-1 "Light Load Mode," and without that check-marked when using 96kHz the instrument sounds are very distorted. I have used Sonar 6 Producer on my desktop computer for several years, which is a 32 bit install on Windows Vista, and the TTS-1 Edit window button beside the tone controls in the 32 bit version worked fine, allowing alteration of those control settings. I also had Sonar 6 Producer installed on my laptop computer, but had only used that for playback of recorded tracks, and it worked great for that purpose. I just recently bought a Behringer UMC404HD recording interface unit to use with my laptop, Thinking that this 64 bit TTS-1 problem might only occur with Band Lab Cakewalk, and after reading msmcleod's last response, I decided to have a look at what is found in my TTS-1 folder. There was only one instance of TTS-1 found there, and the TTS-1.dll file's date of 3/13/2018 was a dead giveaway that this wasn't the Sonar 6 version. Incidentally, while the Help button in TTS-1 does not function, and gives an error message saying, "Cannot find the help information," one can click to open the index_e.htm file shown above, which will show the TTS-1 help information in a browser window. If I remember correctly, the index_e.htm file wasn't in this folder view, but I copied it there from the Help folder thinking that maybe this is why the help could not be found by Cakewalk. That didn't make any difference, though. Looking into this further, I discovered that when I had installed Sonar6 Producer on my laptop, the installer had utilized the 32 bit version, rather than the 64 bit install that was also an option, as the installation went into my Program Files (x86) folder. Next, I tried installing Sonar 6 Producer 64 bit to see if that would overwrite the Band Lab Cakewalk TTS-1 files. What I found was that it wouldn't do that, probably because it saw the newer dated files so retained them. Then I tried renaming the TTS-1 folder as "BandLab TTS-1" and then doing a Sonar 6 uninstall/install. This time the Sonar 6 TTS-1 files were installed correctly, with the TTS-1.dll file dated 9/11/2006. Although it is now using the Sonar 6 TTS-1.dll file, the problem still persists when clicking the button in the TTS-1 Edit window. The 2006 Sonar TTS-1.dll file works with Band Lab Cakewalk, but did not resolve the discussion issue. Thus, it would appear that all 64 bit versions of the TTS-1.dll are faulty. That's too bad, as it would have been nice to use the extra features that are available in the 32 bit version. It's also a bummer that the TTS-1instruments can only be used at 44.1 or 96kHz. Does anyone know of a VST plugin that features a good sounding Acoustic Bass that can be used at higher sample rates? One good thing about re-installing Sonar 6 Producer on my laptop is that some of the features I had used extensively, such as Lexicon Pantheon, are now usable in Band Lab Cakewalk. So, things are definitely improving!

  40. Double check were AAS installs dlls. In the past, I have seen it duplicate files putting them in the manufacturer folder under the VST folder and in the root of the VST folder. Not a big deal but one copy of the of binaries is enough.

  41. You can also hold CTRL when double clicking a track name, to temporarily force opening a new VST/VSTi window even if you have recycling enabled. Handy!

  42. @scook: Setting Preferences->MIDI->Playback and Recording->"Prepare Using: nnn Millisecond Buffers value" to 450 (was default 250) resolved the issue. 450 is the lowest value that resulted in consistent playback on my system. 🤞 Thanks!

  43. Most major DAW applications have what's called Automatic Plugin Delay Compensation (automatic PDC). If a latent plugin is inserted *anywhere* in the project, all other audio is delayed by that amount to maintain sample-accurate sync. If you have several latent plugins inserted in series, the latency adds up quickly. The workaround is either to avoid latent plugins when tracking... or use the Global PDC Bypass option in the Control Bar. Latent plugins are often Mastering, Linear-Phase, Convolution, or Look-Ahead type processing

  44. CbB does not include Rapture. Here are the plug-ins bundled with CbB. If Rapture is installed and is running properly in Platinum then it should run properly in CbB. Does it run properly as a stand alone synth or in Platinum?
    1 point
  45. Not directly, it is a hardware synth. The audio card needs to have some way to route the audio out back to the inputs (maybe "What you Hear" setting). While the GS Wavetable synth is convenient for playing MIDI for best results in CbB use TTS-1.
    1 point
  46. To insert a synth in the synth rack, you have several choices: (1) insert it with a simple instrument track, or (2) insert it split into separate MIDI & audio tracks (you can have multiple audio outs if the synth supports that), or (3) no tracks. If you split the tracks you can see more details for each track type in the track header with them split. More info here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Browser.11.html You can just place a synth in the Cakewalk synth rack without adding the tracks needed for the synth to operate. A synth instance requires a MIDI track for data input, and then must output sound to an audio track. So you will at least need to add another audio track. You can either route the original MIDI track to the new instrument, or move/copy the MIDI data to the new instrument or MIDI track. NOTE: There are many strategies you can use to organize your tracks and maintain control over clutter. You can use track folders, color code tracks, hide tracks, etc. More info here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Arranging.51.html
