Excellent tips here and I'm learning so much on different techniques, methods, and anatomy.

To be serious for a moment, if you can, get to the music first thing after you wake up in the morning. I believe the music is in there but a lot of things can cover it up during the day. And don't turn the computer on right away, just your instrument. I know not everyone can do that but find your best, least distracted time. I always come away feeling positive and that is important.

The reason I'm posting all of this is how well manufacturers respond with faulty hardware. Warranty is a priority when I buy but so is RMA service. If service in unsatisfactory I broadcast it on forums, Facebook, Newegg, Amazon, pretty much leave no stone unturned. I don't want to go through another set of hoops for this drive. I've read similar responses on the Intel forum.

It is still the best looking interface on the market. Not sure what this nonsense about being obsolete about.

If you want to use Jamstix, you have to read the manual. Your not going to get anything like it's full potential out of it unless you read that manual. Read it, play around with JS, read the manual some more, play with JS some more, and keep repeating!! Be aware the it has Save Points feature. Use it excessively!! [edit] Let me state I have nothing against the videos. Watch them after you read the manual. Read the manual after you watch the videos!! : )

PROS: The new interface is resizable, so that is a huge improvement. The new browser is much easier to use. The on-board effects rack is very good, borrowing from T-Racks, Amplitube, and Syntronik. The new multis page is borrowed from Syntronik. A big improvement. The edit page has an improved layout, and additional new controls are available for the ST4 sample elements, including a new modulation section. ST4 is compatible with ST3, Syntronik, and Philharmonik 2 content libraries. ST4 MAX includes the entire ST3 MAX library content as separate installers. Many of the new ST4 instruments sound very, very good. But they are not full replacements for the ST3 content library which you will still need to use to provide the core instrument collection of your SampleTank library. ST4 content is just an addition to existing content. The full comparison of the instruments included in each edition can be found here: Compare Versions Yes I would do it again. CONS: Huge list of content downloads that need to be individually unzipped and executed. Over 200GB... Bugs > Yes. Memory footprint has been reduced, but some folks are still experiencing random crashes. I have an open ticket with support regarding that. We are waiting for the v4.0.4 patch to be released next week. The devs are apparently still working on additional optimizations.

Absolutely fantastic product. I only regret not buying it sooner.

First of all, there is more than one right way to make music, and my way might not be best for anyone else. But I'm curious. Does anyone else prefer hardware MIDI modules to software synths? It seems like it's getting more and more difficult to find good hardware synth modules. Yet there are plenty of soft-synths available. The way I see it is this: Hardware MIDI synths last forever. I have a Yamaha TX81z, a Korg DS-8 and a Roland MT-32 that were manufactured when PCs still used DOS-5 or maybe Windows 3.1, Atari/ST computers had built in MIDI ports, and Mac computers used Motorola CPUs. Some of the sounds on these modules are stale, but others are stellar and have no contemporary equal. Plus how many software synths from that era still work today? Zero. How many software synths have been orphaned when computer OS systems evolved? Plenty Hardware synths store all their sounds in ROM. Software synths must 'do the math' creating every note, every nuance, and every articulation while the sequence is playing. This taxes the computer's CPU which is also running the DAW and perhaps other background jobs Since all the sounds in hardware synths are stored in ROM, the latency is negligible and they all run about 5ms plus or minus 1ms. I've seen some software synths that have a latency of almost a half second. Since there is no tax on the CPU and since all the hardware synths have the same latency I can mix sounds from my rack of 10 or more synths. I can pick the best snare drum for the song from one module, the best kick drum from another, the best bass from another the best guitar from another the best trumpet from another the best sax section from another and do on. They will all be in sync. With practically zero latency I can add track after track in real time while the old ones are playing and have the new track in sync. With zero load on the CPU for sounds, the hardware synths can be better sounding or better responding. I have yet to see any software synth that can do what the physical modeling Yamaha VL70m can do -- and it's been discontinued for years. The nuances it can reproduce are light years ahead of any sample or sample-modeling synth. Through the years I have added new synth modules while my ancient stone-age sound modules still contribute to my mixes. To be fair, there are also advantages to software synths. With all the talk about software plug-ins, sometimes I feel like a dinosaur. Are there any other dinosaurs out there? Notes

Just bought this instrument for a project I'm working on in CbB. Sounds great but key up sound doesn't work in Cakewalk for some reason. Tried it in Studio One and it works but my project is in Cake. Anyone using this Waves plugin having similar problem. Roy

Yeah! I said it. I even got a bluescreen because of the failure. When booting it was not to find, and even in BIOS is was missing. Swapping the SATA cables saved it tho. So try that before tossing away HDDs/SSDs…

Use the Loop Construction View or the Groove Clip section in the Clip Properties tab in the inspector to adjust the number of beats in the clip.

Jude, I use a style call JamStix Classic. You can find an explanation in the manual at 18.2.2 It's under Special Styles. If you need help finding it, let me know. When I have a new song, I will use this to make a general beat. It was hard for me to put my head around this very simple UI, but it has unbelievable potential! Seriously. For the kick, you will see the green dots on the first and third place, which represent beats. For the snare green dots on the two and four. Both on the top row. Start up transport in CbB and just listen. Very simple. Adjust tempo of CbB to what you need. Now as it's playing, on the kick add a dot right under that first dot. See what you got now!? Add a beat under the second beat on the snare now. See what starts to develop? : ) Adjust the slider to the right of the beat you want to limit the amount you want it played. Now drop down and start playing with the Hi Hat style. See? Now adjust the Open setting. Sweet! OK, now hopefully you got something that you can work with, but it'smay not just be quite right. Drop down to the bar editor and select the first Bar. Select the second drum hit, and adjust it's timing to the left. Hear that? That's where the "feel" for me comes in. I can adjust this to be just like I like it. I can make it push, or lay back. But there's more!! Now you got several Bars fleshed out just like you want it, you feeling the grove. Now save these bars as a new style!! Then you can use this style to create the song your working on!! It will generate an INtro, a Verse, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Bridge.... ect!! But there's more!! Now you got your song set as a style, and you have generated the general format of the song, now you can further adjust the feel, power, repetitions, and... you get the idea. But, yes there is more!! Now that you got your song going, try different drummers and it changes things up, but stays on the style you want. Yes there is much more. I am only touching the tip of the iceberg here. When you factor in that you can do what I just explained for the Accents and Fills, it's really unbelievable.

That's why I learned to play by ear. When that gets hurt I go to feet and toes sometimes but playing by nose works best

Yep in facts cheap stuff , ain't that good for methodolgy sometimes , too many times we buy stuff based on their cheapness or deal we have , if everything was at 150 $ and up i can assure you that we would be really more peaky and we be choosing our stuff way more carefully .... there's a lot of stuff i would n't have bougth if i had Arousor and VSC 3 since a long time ...

The MIDI card won't give MCU emulation, but it looks like it does something similar. I suspect you'll have to go down the AzController route for this one. The only possible answer is "Yes".

I have studio one and the main reason I don't use it is because of the ugliness of the UI. I like the browser with the ability to show a snapshot of the UI of the various plug-ins, but other than that I really don't like looking at it at all. Amongst the ugliest of all the alternatives IMO.

That's because there was no ProChannel in 8.5.3. The easiest way to get a ProChannel enabled project, is to start a new blank project in CwB, then drag the 8.5.3 project on to the track area:

Ah yeah it might be a simpler solution if the target track which needs no reverb tails is only one.

Yeah there is really no other way to do this other than having the reverb on an independent bus and automating the send. Or just put a reverb inline on that tracks effects bin which might be a simpler solution.

A few things that come to mind and to look at: Is the send pre or post fader You can also automate the bus that the reverb is on with a volume envelope I remember a function in Sonar (cakewalk), that you can enable to 'play effect tails' in the preference menu, make sure this is disengaged Let me know if any of those work, CJ
