Whilst I love the Waves plugins (I've got a fair few!) It's only recently that I've realised that I totally underappreciated just how much came with SONAR Platinum. The ProChannel alone gives you SSL Style EQ (E & G), Neve, SSL & Trident console emulation, SSL Bus Compression, a 1176 clone and tube & tape emulation. On top of that you get Pultec style EQ, Fairchild compression & Neve style EQ and much more, courtesy of the BlueTubes collection from Nomad Factory. Then there's Rapture, Dimension Pro, Z3TA, AD2 and all the other stuff bundled. It would make sense for BandLab to sell a "Platinum Pack" with some or all of these things included. It really was a fantastic set of plugins.

Also, use encrypted passwords, use a different password for every account and two-factor authentication on emails as that is the most common way for people to lose things is when they have access to your email account and can change passwords.

I have all 4 amps - they are my go to amp sims these days, especially Cerberus on Bass stuff - but all three of the others are really good as well. I've just used them extensively on the demos for our new album. In fact some sounded so good I didn't even bother rerecording using a proper amp!!! Cheers Nigel

You might want to send them some email about adding a channel output option. I picked this up and agree it could use the ability to route each part to different MIDI channels. You can easily see this being expanded, lots of more complicated things could easily be mixed into something like this. I wonder if they will go that route?

When I started to use SONAR PLATINUM I thought it as a program that was losing users year after year. It was not used by the majority of the music professionals and It wasn't supported by major hardware manufacturers (Komplete keyboards for example). Now, every time I go on Youtube I see a new Cakewalk video. For me, this is a symptom of an slowly and steadily growing user base. What do you think about this? I don't care about popularity as I tend to use what I like the most but I have to confess that I would like to see more hardware manufacturers interested on Cakewalk as a viable music creation platform for developing custom products (hey Roland V-Studio )

Hey Mesh, I bought my son the ATH M40x. They were very comfortable. They sounded good too. A little bass hype, but they would be very serviceable for tracking/mixing. They're supported by Sonarworks, so that would take the bass hype out of the equation, and you can get em at Amazon for $79!

@cclarry the good news is that if you go Pro and have the eLicenser dongle, they really can't steal it without the physical dongle. So maybe that's actually an argument in favor of the dongle?

Yeah that's a lot of money for guys like us huh ? I had a friend in Cali named Vic , I knew him since High School from back east , any way Vic did well for himself . He had a number of vintage guitars and a few handmade Benedetto's that cost him well over 20 grand apiece . I used to go to his house and play his guitars all the time ...Pre War Martins , 50's and 60's Strats , Tele, 335's and a cheap a$$ed Gibson L 5 that was only 7 grand Sure a 20 or 30 thousand dollar guitar sounds like a lot when your playing an Epi like I was at the time . I suppose it is all relative .. I used to get a kick out of him driving us over to hear music in the Mercedes convertible w the top down . Funny thing he hired me to play a few shows with him as a blues act .w a female singer ..he sure loved playing blues on his Paul Reed Smith that cost him only 6500 bucks ...lol We were sort of like the Ying and Yang brothers he would play guitars that cost more than my car and i would play guitars that cost a bout as much as a diner date for 2 . for the record most of my guitar playing these days has been on a guitar that only cost me 119 dollars ... I have to keep my good guitars in a case because Duke is a leaner ... anyway here is what my 119 dollar guitar sounds like Kenny

That's a very scary cautionary tale. I guess the lesson is start keeping every receipt. You figure that companies would keep their own receipts off line somewhere in case this sort of thing happens (which it seems to do every day).

Cakewalk was losing out on the market for a few reasons but the main reasons were probably it being windows only and the long outstanding bugs. DAWS like Reaper and Studio One have been able to come up on the scene in the last 10 years and blow Cakewalk out of the water because they can side-step the legacy code, see what has worked for Cakewalk, Pro Tools, etc., and use that as a starting point. (Studio One has a nearly identical modular interface, for example.) The rise in popularity of Cakewalk is a result of it being free, which is fine. You can still get a lot done with Cakewalk and because you don't have to spend money on the DAW itself; you can buy some essential plugins such as the Waves Gold bundle, or the Slate Everything Bundle, and get to work.

You gain an up to date and supported version of Sonar. You lose the state of being stuck with a potentially outdated DAW, with no hope of ever getting any more bug fixes. As far as looking at other DAWs, what @synkrotronsays... ^^^

For me, this is the path. AI for drums driving good sounding samples. AD samples are good enough. I use JamStix to drive it. JamStix the only issue is the complexity to get it to do what I want. However, when it is working, it sounds far more realistic than these other platforms and "static" patterns.

If you mean it didn't have the same market penetration as say, Pro-Tools, then that could be said about the majority of software DAWs out there. I'm not trying to be contrary--so I'll clarify, because sometimes things can get misunderstood in posts. I have found quite a lot of music professionals use(d) Sonar. I would meet and hear from music professionals at conventions, watch online music industry seminars, and speak to people in the biz, and although there was a spattering of many different DAWs out there, I would hear of Sonar just as much as any of the others. Now, I did hear of a few music pros that left Sonar after Gibson bailed, but I have no idea whether they came back after Bandlab bought them. For some, they just didn't want to deal with the uncertainty. To be honest, I was about to switch just before Bandlab made the announcement. It would be interesting to know if Cakewalk is picking up more market share now that Bandlab bought it, but whether Bandlab is willing to share that information outside their organization is a completely different question. I would think that making the software free had to have some positive effects on market penetration. Whether those additional downloads are music pros--I don't think anyone but Bandlab knows, and then they might not even have ways of telling whether someone with their software is a 12 year old who wants to be a DJ someday, or a successful music pro. Finally, if you look at who is posting in this forum and the FB group, you've got the diehard lifelong regulars, and the noobs that just got the software because it's free, and just about everyone in between. Being one of those diehards, I just hope Cakewalk stays around for a very long time to come, and does become a market standard!

You may have too many plugins if ... - you have some that you've never figured out how to use - you've accidentally purchased a plugin you forgot you already had - you have bought any "every plugin" bundle from any vendor - you still think that a "musical" EQ or compressor is a real thing, and you just don't have it yet - you have more than one tambourine and/or cowbell library - you have more than one convolution reverb - you have ever been mesmerized by a Dan Worrall video, AKA Hypno-Toad - you are trying or have ever tried to keep up with bapu

Mesh, you're going to do well with those M50's. I can't think of another model that's as versatile for the price (and most of us paid more than $129 for ours). Isolation is decent enough for tracking, frequency response is good enough for at the least the early stages of the mix process, transients are clear enough for detail editing, and they're not bad for just kicking back and listening for enjoyment. That said, I have moved away from the M50 as a single do-all headphone solution. All headphones compromise something. It's about physics, which no amount of money can defy. The M50 achieves a practical balance of compromises, but... For tracking, I want better isolation. For mixing I want a less-hyped bass. For lying in the dark listening to music, I want clarity and a flat response. Because no single headphone model can do all that, I've resigned myself to having a different headphone for each purpose. The M50s still serve for editing tasks such as Melodyne tweaking and cutting/fading clips, but the HD280Pro's superior isolation and midrangey-ness makes it better suited for vocal tracking. The HD650s are for pleasure listening only, being too nice-sounding for critical listening but deeply satisfying for immersing myself in my favorite music. I use the very similar but less-expensive HD558s for travel, just because they're older so I wouldn't be as heartbroken if they got crushed in transit.

Yes, and much more. Just don't uninstall 8.5 - CbB doesn't come with DP Pro or any of the free 3rd party plugins/instruments, but it will pickup all the stuff you got with 8.5.
