  5. Roland drivers are not well behaved with automatic switching of sample rates. In fact some require manual intervention. If you are using ASIO and Windows simultaneously with the same device its a bit of a crapshoot since the ASIO device may be using the device at one sample rate while Windows will try it the default in Windows. I even had some issues with Focusrite in this regard. I solved it by setting windows to use the same sample rate that I was using in Cakewalk and so far its been fine. It also works pretty well with RME devices. But generally I would keep Windows independent from the device that you are using in ASIO mode and you should not have issues. There are many who are using the Quad Capture successfully in ASIO mode.

  8. This happens mostly with just switching around with the big new instruments in ST4 MAX (4.0.3). You know, the ones I really want to try out because they sound so good. My sample libraries are all installed on an internal 1TB SATA HDD 7200 RPM. One example that recreates my crash consistently: 1. Launch ST4 standalone. 2. Load "C7 Grand Binaural - Natural". Play a few notes to verify that the sound has loaded correctly. 3. Then replace that instrument with "C7 Grand Classical". It loads, but as soon as I try to play the first note, it just freezes up, and I have to kill the task. A few other scenarios have the interface just going poof. If I load "C7 Grand Classical" first, it loads and plays OK, so that instrument doesn't appear to have a corrupted file or anything. So far I can also load and play the lighter ST4 instruments, for example all of the EPs and Basses. My ST3, Syntronik, and Miroslav 2 CE instruments seem to be OK.

  10. The guitarist out of my old band put lights and an LCD panel into his blank rack panel. The LCD screen had random semi-offensive messages come up (toilet humour for 5 year olds type words) should any over-curious musician take an interest in his gear... their reactions kept him amused throughout gigs.

  12. I would say that it might depend on what scope of editing / writing etc you needed to do offline . If it was straight up editing - I would bounce out stems of tracks that are already complete and just edit a few offline - then transfer those couple of tracks back. I think going for a full project transfer would be a headache - and maybe expensive to duplicate usable VSTi's. Having some basic midi instruments - maybe just to fill out monitoring might be a good idea. I don't know if the TSS synth covers enough ground - I've only used it for a few filler tracks. Drums would probably be the most important thing to be able to keep compatible between both DAWS.

  13. There's a downside to disabling the zero-controllers option, which is why it's an option in the first place. Weird stuff can happen if you don't zero controllers when playback stops, such as restarting playback and the sustain pedal is stuck down (resulting in stuck notes), or an instrument playing out of tune because of where the pitch wheel was last set. For this reason, I combat the Kontakt modwheel problem using msmcleod's method of inserting a CC1 event at the start of the track. It's a small bother, but the problem mostly affects orchestral libraries that I'm probably going to add CC1 events to anyway.

  14. Is your whole house that tidy? I'm guessing probably not. Then again, kitchen utensils and your wife's knickknacks don't really lend themselves to wire tie organization. My own rack keeps getting emptier as I cannibalize it for the band. Gotta get some more blank panels.

  16. I noticed this as well. Having modulation at zero making cutoff freq = zero is a totally mental decision. Modulation at zero is the default position (as is actually having some sound coming out). Why on earth did NI not make it work in reverse? My workaround was to insert a CC# 1 (modulation) = 127 at the very beginning of the MIDI Event List.

  18. I think perhaps you guys might be correct in saying Musescore and others might work for what the OP has done. His song was done by his using the Piano Roll View, so more than likely, he put notes perfectly onto the timeline and if he did not move the notes to the side of the beat, to give it some swing and phrasing, then those other software programs should be able to work just fine. Of course, his song would feel rather "mechanical" or robotic, as we musicians have spoken about in the use of computer music for decades. But what I have been writing about is if the MIDI file was a person recording a song on his MIDI keyboard, playing it as he felt it should sound. Then of course, a myriad of complications are introduced that those software score programs are incapable to handling, except for Finale'. So, if the MIDI file by the songwriter is one created with PRV and not complicated at all, then you can use anything. But if the MIDI file created is like a person using his MIDI keyboard to record a composition on piano and play it as he likes, then the notes will not be lined up perfectly, and attempting to move the notes to look proper on the staff inside a software score program, will not work (except for Finale') because those other programs FORCE each measure to add up to 1 (all the notes in the measure must add up to 1), and that will cause havoc galore.

  24. Um that's an ancient thread and if you read it all the issues have long since been resolved. Most of the issues were with sidechaining in VST2 which was ill defined and implemented differently by different vendors. If someone has an actual recipe to reproduce a crash with sidechaining we'll look into it,

  25. I used to take with me a 10-year-old laptop for editing Sonar projects while sitting on a train or a bus. Some plugins were missing, but that didn't prevent me from working on the projects. I also used a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and a small lightweight USB interface (Line6 GX). When finished I would copy the project back to the main DAW PC via a flashdrive. I always used project folders and never bundle files.

  26. I've got a very basic install on my work laptop, just CbB and Rapture Pro & CA-2A from CCC, with a M-Audio KeyStation 32 as a controller. Sticking to stock plugins keeps the disk space footprint small (I don't want to upset the IT department!). My intention was to use as a sketch pad for ideas during my lunch, but to be honest I never really get the time. I'm a Software Development Manager, and our office is open plan, so I find I more than often work through lunch as it's the one time I get some peace to get work done! It's main use now is for taking screen shots, or trying things out when answering questions here. If I'm travelling, I'll bring my own laptop which has the same setup as my studio PC. I use a combination of batch files & a cloud backup (Mega) for keeping projects in sync. My CloudSync folder is set to F:\Projects, where as my Cakewalk directories are SEQUENCE for projects, WAVEDATA for my global audio directory, PICTURE for my picture cache, and TEMPLATES for my templates. CopyToMega.bat: ROBOCOPY F:\SEQUENCE F:\Projects\SEQUENCE *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\PICTURE F:\Projects\PICTURE *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\TEMPLATES F:\Projects\TEMPLATES *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\WAVEDATA F:\Projects\WAVEDATA *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT CopyFromMega.bat: ROBOCOPY F:\Projects\SEQUENCE F:\SEQUENCE *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\Projects\PICTURE F:\PICTURE *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\Projects\TEMPLATES F:\TEMPLATES *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT ROBOCOPY F:\Projects\WAVEDATA F:\WAVEDATA *.* /XO /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT This does involve having two copies of my projects, however: It stops the cloud sync from accessing any "active" projects I can decide when I'm ready to sync the projects

  30. I had this problem with my Octa-capure on a regular basis. Windows (Youtube in google chrome etc..) sometimes grabbed the Octa-capture and would not release it. My solution was to re-activate the on board sound card. When this "lock" occured, I clicked on the sound icon in the taskbar, and assigned the onboard card to windows. And with a tiny "click" from speakers, Cakewalk would get access to the Octa-Capture.

  36. Well I’ll be. The flipper of bits has left some bits for me. Cheers mate. It seems like a life time since our paths last crossed. Thanks for the sage advice. Now I know you appreciate a yarn so I’ll share my hospital discharge experience with you all. I just couldn't sleep last night so when I got an email from a mate in the UK, Steve, I told him about my discharge from the hospital earlier that day. “Hi Steve, Well this is night 2 at home with a degree of insomnia which is a relief from the sheer panic I felt last night my first night at home I arrived home at about 5pm at the end of a long day’s hospital discharge process which began with one of the surgical team waking me up at 7am telling me I was being discharged. I had made no prior arrangements, expecting some sort of plan being made with me about when and how I would go home. I hurriedly called my son-in-law who came straight down to get me. He’d only finished work that morning at 7am and left home at about 8am to cover the 180 kilometres from home to the hospital. He made great time and was in the city by 10:30 to get me. Great, I’m going home, but it took another 4 hours for the hospital machinery to grind inexorably to letting go it’s grip on me. By this time of the day following multiple sessions of walking around the ward called “exercise” I was thoroughly exhausted. This was after all only day 6 following a quadruple bypass on an obese 65 year old. Finally the moment came and the Dr. pronounced that my chest X-ray from 2 hours earlier showed I was fit for discharge. Now, because of the surgery I have quite a bit of fluid on board with legs that look like fattened bbq sausages ready to explode on the hot plate dousing anyone nearby with super hot fat. Of course to combat this fluid accumulation, diuretics are prescribed. Pills that make you go wee. First of many intended and noted puns. Not such a big deal in a hospital where a WC is always close by, but on a traffic laden peak hour ride through a forest of roadworks I assure you Steve, the dearth of bathroom facilities becomes apparent after about 20 minutes into the drive home. It’s at this point I make my first calm plea to Brad, my son-in-law, “any time you see a chance for me to go pee, I’d really appreciate if you could stop. Twenty more minutes passed (pun intended) and I was starting to lament not having asked Brad to bring The Bottle (I have one at home) so I could relive myself in the car. Maybe a plastic bag in the car. No such luck. Of course our conversation became more focused on my immediate needs as those needs became more immediate with every passing second. Again pun intended. By this time I was resigned to the inevitable. I would wet myself in the most ignominious of fashions not only now, this time, but in all likelihood, several times more before we got home. Once I had wet myself, the opportunity to later use a public rest room was forbidden me. How could I leave my wee soaked seat and walk through a crowded McDonald’s. But, the human bladder is like this tale, able to stretch to extraordinary capacity and by the grace of God, we (again pun intended) did arrive at a McDonald’s before any embarrassing leakage had taken place. So I open the car door gingerly, being very careful to not shear the stainless steel wires holding my sternum together and make my way on the longest single walk I had taken in the last 2 weeks and then I saw the sign. Shining like a beacon, heralding the room where I could empty what must by now be the largest bladder in the universe. What, what horror has conspired to hurt me further. My shining beacon heralded no toilet but a shower room. I had yet to completely retrace my steps before finding my target. I was thoroughly spent, legs, weak at the knees, my abdomen cramped and the searing burning pain in my lungs as I gasped for every breath reminded me that I would get fit if it killed me. An hour later, just 30 minutes from home would see me have to repeat this whole adventure for the second but thankfully last time. My state of physical exhaustion was much more complete this time and I consider myself lucky because I did manage to get back to the car without collapsing completely. My only regret being that when my son-in-law offered to help me into Maccas I should have just thrown myself on him and let him carry me in. The remaining 30 minute drive home gave some more time to question the Dr’s wisdom in using a chest X-ray as the final metric on which to base my discharge (and yes pun intended again). Would an examination of my bladder been a more appropriate diagnostic tool.

  38. This may be totally irrelevant, if so, ignore me. I did not see anyone referring to this in the above posts. Mysterious sound/no sound issues of many kind have (at least in the past) often been caused by CW "hijacking" the drivers. "Check Share drivers with other programs" used to be a relatively common answer in the past. I don't even know if that option exists anymore.

  41. Over the weekend I saw a couple of things. I have several midi interfaces connected to my Daw. I turn then on when needed. I noticed that the Cakewalk control surface will auto select a midi interface when the actual control surface interface midi device is missing. This makes the selected interface unusable on a midi track input even though it's in the track options list. Just a FYI I thought I would share, as well as something I need to remember. It took me a while to figure this out. If I change the midi interface in the Control surface to something else all is well. The second observation was when recording midi on a track with the Arpeggiator turned on in the Cakewalk midi track as well as the vsti I ended up with overlapping redundant midi notes. Is there a recommended work-flow when recording arpeggated parts? I just practiced the parts with the Arpeggiator on and then recorded with it off. Unfortunately sometimes I forgot this step.

  44. This might be a silly question, but when you go into the sample rate settings on the Octa-Capture itself, what is it currently set to? Octa-captures can cause CbB to throw that message if the project sample rate and the device don't line up. You can get the details on how to set it on the device here.

  45. That's done. First, someone told me to disable the onboard sound device in the Bios, finally I unabled it again yesterday and assigned Windows sound. The problem some run into when running a their DAW audio interface as the default Windows audio device is the DAW and Windows are not configured to run the same sample rate. If one has projects at different sample rates, it may be convenient to run Windows audio through the onboard chip to avoid having to deal with the sample rate mismatch issue.

  46. To embed an image in a post requires a link to the IMAGE. For example, using an image I uploaded to http://imgur.com. The image hosting site I have recommended since your first post. The link quoted may work if the site allows linking directly to the image. This is a link to the page containing the image https://imgur.com/3Oa2ztH Adding this type of link does not embed the image because it is not an image, it is a link to the page containing the image. Similar to what was done in this thread and other attempts to embed imaged. Notice, it lacks an image extension. This is a direct link to the image on the page https://i.imgur.com/3Oa2ztH.png The forum recognizes this as an image will automatically embed the full-size image like this

  47. Thanks everyone for trying to help me. I'm running a PC with i7-2600K, CPU 3.40 GHz, 16 Go RAM, Windows 7, SSD for system, 1 To HDD for libraries, 1 To HDD for projects. That's done. First, someone told me to disable the onboard sound device in the Bios, finally I unabled it again yesterday and assigned Windows sound. I'll try that, disabling the digital outputs and inputs. I disabled all other sound devices (on-board) in Cakewalk. That was my idea, I use Focal 50, and I can plug my PC output directly in it. Or maybe I can use my old Tapcoe S5 by Mackie, which I don't manage to sell. They could be used only for that kind of purpose ... For the image, I'll see how I can do ... Does that work ? https://ibb.co/GxHPs2z
