  1. Fast bounce now has better multiprocessing and uses another core to do the disk reading. It has some moderate gains in speed depending on the project. On a disk bound project I got about a 30 second gain on something that would normally take about 2.5 minutes. It really depends on the project however.

  2. Imagine opening a new box expecting to smell factory fresh, new plastic toy scent, but instead that smell is sweaty armpits, whisky breath and the remnants of a questionable wiping technique. I guess they could call it: the stench of authenticity.

  7. In the last year or two, someone had a very similar sale (VSTbuzz?) with three of these guitars for $99. I bought them, fooled with them a bit, and have hardly touched them since. I use Ample guitars all the time (and I also like AAS Strum GS-2), but I just found these guitars to be awkward to use. Sound is nice, but if you have some good guitars already, these may not be anything to get excited about. Like someone mentioned, a demo is sorely needed to see if these fit your workflow.

  9. I can see this being useful in a live performance, especially if you're running a sequence that the drummer has to play along to. Having another hi-hat keeping the beat gives the drummer more freedom to play around it, whilst keeping everything in time. And I guess it'll be much more fun than a click running in headphones.

  13. Just demoed it. Certainly not as sluggish as other PG products, slick UI, not scalable, but usable. Sounds better than previous versions, but (still) has severe aliasing, audible with high gain settings on high pitched notes. Doesn't perform as good as competing ampsims, which all work fine at 96kHz/16samples on my Scarlett 6i6 1st gen. FX2 works as expected only at 44.1kHz/16 samples. At other sample rates it becomes a ring modulator or requires higher buffer settings. Still feels like the initial attack is processed by an SSL type compressor and then fed into all other modules. Definitely wrong approach! Guitar match is an interesting feature, but considering the price point, I'll stick with Peavey ReValver with similar functionality, better audio quality and clever pricing.

  18. I thank you one and all for the great feedback on this tune. It's very much appreciated 'Tell Her She's Okay' has passed through many iterations and several re-mixes. I didn't start out as a duet. It once had somewhat different lyrics and just the male part. It morphed into a duet when a great singer (Raquel) became available to me. The song is now mixed and mastered to an integrated loudness of -14 LUFS. It was much louder at one time (about -8 LUFS). When you looked at the final stereo mix in Cakewalk (SONAR at the time) it resembled the proverbial 'sausage' (i.e. squashed into a long rectangle with a taper at both ends). There are some who'd say 'who cares what it looks like', and I would agree. Ultimately, my ears were the final arbitrator. Now that streaming services normalize the power of their signals, highly 'peak-centric' music is suffering. Instead of being louder than other mixes they're now reduced to a common loudness. Any lack of dynamics then becomes quite apparent. The loudness wars seem to have come to an end. Believe me, I've found that as hard to accept as anyone else, but here's the thing: when I remixed this to a lower loudness I began to hear many subtleties that were never previously evident. An overall loud mix that still exhibits good dynamics is terribly hard (impossible?) to achieve. But once again let me say thanks to everyone for the positive vibe. A lot of work went in, but the bottom line is, the song was meant to be fun.

  19. Sadly, I agree with this. People raved about Sunbird as the best guitar for finger-picking, so I bought one of the bundles. The interface allows you to do a zillion things. The only thing you can't do with it is to play it simply, like you can with AAS Strum GS-2 in five minutes. Amplesound and Orange Tree Samples guitars sound a lot better, and if you want fingerpicking, Realitone's Fingerpick is the best. The less said about Telematic the better, but the fact that they don't even sell it anymore tells you a lot. In terms of UVI Workstation, nothing plays on it that isn't registered with iLok. You don't need a dongle, you can do it on your computer. I've never had a problem with it and it has a lot of great features that Kontakt doesn't have, like a powerful arpeggiator which modulates velocity, pitch and any MIDI CC. It has tons of effects, and you can quickly create great multis with it. In the last free update, they added the feature everybody wants from Kontakt, but haven't gotten so far: a resizeable UI. The biggest difference is that you can play any UVI or third party instrument on the free player, unlike Kontakt, where you need to buy full kontakt to get access to most of them. And if you ever want to spring for its big brother Falcon, you get a ton more features, which increases the value of all the UVI instruments you own. Anybody who is having a problem with the new version of UVI Workstation should write their customer service. They are really nice and I'm sure they would send you an older version. They want people to be using their instruments. But I think it's great that UVI adds new features to the free workstation now and then. I'm sure they will continue doing that.

  31. The reason the pre amps failed was a design flaw that some mixers have. You have the XLR jacks which are not a problem for phantom power even if a mike is none phantom. But you also have a TRS input jack in parallel and if you plug a guitar cable in with Phantom power on it gives the pre amp a 48 volt hit where it doesn't belong. My solution was to plug those TRS inputs with Silicon. so it would not happen again. Generally it's a good idea to always leave phantom power off until all connections are made. But the switch was very small and hidden on the back. I don't think there was a warning light either. As it was I generally used a Mackie 1604 mixer to feed the Yamaha via the Mackies direct outs. I also used this massive 24 ch Soundcraft board that had a million patch points, all XLR. It was 4 feet wide!

  35. Thanks for listening @SPAK I agree its very thin and also the members of the band are insecure... first time really doing the song live. The guitarist (who also playes the hamonica) gets severe stage fright.. The only way to over come this is exposure and going out and doing things. The band rely heavily on me a s a front man.. I dont get any nerves. 🙂 The Rhode is a Nord C2D @freddy j thanks for taking the time to listen, I will check out your song too.

  38. I'm sure most of the power users here know about this, but for those who don't, here's a way of using any VST as if it was a ProChannel module. Here's how I put my Scheps-73 in the ProChannel: An here's a demo on how quick it is to do it: Obviously it's got it's limitations: You're limited to 6 buttons & 6 knobs You only see percentages on the knob display as you turn it, not the actual value. But it's a convenient way to put your VST anywhere in your ProChannel chain, whilst being able to tweak the most used settings.

  39. Hey all- drop us a line at support@cakewalk.com and we'll do what we can to assist! If you have an account, we can update the email address for you. In short, if you had created or updated your account between 2014 and 2017, there's a likelihood we can retrieve your account info. Cakewalk utilized a Single Sign On platform during that period, and advised users to migrate to that platform even if they didn't make a new purchase- just to keep up with the latest system and keep those registrations in tact. For those who did not create an SSO account, we may be able to pull registration information, but will not be able to modify, reinstate, or create a new account with that system. Keep in mind, the old Cakewalk site and forum are now legacy resources. New accounts for Cakewalk by BandLab are made via BandLab, and the new program is installed via BandLab Assistant. While we're not offering support for legacy products, we can usually get your registration details, and CbB can open your old project files.

  41. Yeah, there was a discussion about this a few weeks ago. An other option is: 1. Hold SHIFT whilst loading the old project, which will load it in safe mode to avoid any crashes on load 2. Select ALL the tracks, and save as a track template. This will preserve your VST's & ProChannel settings. 3. On the new project, import the track template 4. CTRL+C / CTRL+V your old tracks onto the new tracks

  44. Scores for musicals typically come in two flavours, a full score (with all the orchestral instruments and vocals), and a vocal score which just has a piano part with vocals. There can then be a "set of parts" which is each instrument's individual notes. all collected together. Oboe, cor anglais, flute, bassoon, ... and so on down to double bass. If you're writing for transposing instruments like Bb clarinet, or French Horn (in F) the notes will need transposing for the players. But I do say typically. If you take a look here https://imslp.org/wiki/The_Mikado_(Sullivan%2C_Arthur) you will see under the various tabs, full score, vocal score and parts. It's old fashioned, so don't worry about that, but imagine that properly typeset. You should be able to import your MIDI file (if you have one) into an application like MuseScore (a freebie) which makes a reasonable job, but almost certainly will need tidying quite a bit, as Tobias has explained. I use Finale 26. JohnG.

  45. If there are dmp files associated with the crashes, they should be in %appdata%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\MiniDumps Zip up one or two and send to support with a description of the problem, include CbB version, OS and PC hardware details. Crashes are a support issue. They are a "technical problem." Examples of things that are not technical issues and not support issues are "how do I record audio" and "what is MIDI." The problem may be related to the offline render algorithm selected in preferences.
