  3. Why is it that dogs go absolutely 'bonkers' in snow. Tigger used to do that too when younger. I used to have a Welsh Border Collie that went absolutely insane in snow. We called her Abi. Waiting for her frisbee to be thrown. ("Why's he taking my picture? He'd better not post it on line.") God, I miss her so much. such a sweet natured creature. Brings a lump to my throat just remembering!

  5. When making stems for music libraries it's very handy to use track folders, but they often want sub-catergories i.e. Guitars as the main stem but also Rhythm and Lead separately. Nested sub folders would make this very simple.

  7. Bill, I have seen some incredible players that could read anything you put in front of them. Couldn't come up with an original tune on their own. Seen great players in bars that amazed me in their command of the instrument, and after 30 minutes of listening to them my wife would turn to me and say, "I'm ready to leave." They couldn't entertain her. (most of the people in the bars were musicians!) I could never figure it out. Other than the reason I keep playing and have devoted a very large chunk of my life to it is I love it. I really do. So it's my personal enjoyment that matters in the end of it. Not what others think of me.

  8. Well, at least he picks up a guitar and can do something with it. One day, if he joins a band or decides to write his own stuff then what he has picked up may come in handy. Until that time, it is scales and arpeggios...

  9. Things to check: 1. Have you got input echo enabled on your midi/audio tracks or instrument track if that's what your using? 2. Check you've not got any surface controllers defined in Preferences that are assigned to these devices

  11. Now that I'm retired I can forget those 'toxic' people and not mix with them. It makes life gentler, it has to be said. My wife, still working, has to deal with certain bitches not of the canine ilk at her work. Why do some people have to be like that? I never did discover, now I never will.

  12. Who, me? @Gswitz, I listened, although I knew I wouldn't be able to give any meaningful appraisal. Dare I say, they all sound the same to me and that is more a demonstration of a complete lack of skill on my part when it comes to making judgements on stuff like this. Does anyone remember the Golden Ears online test a couple of years ago? I failed miserably... Only just got my Bronze Ear award! I have been listening on my main PC through my OCTA-CAPTURE and KRK KNS 8400 headphones, so perhaps that didn't help. I'd be really interested to hear what other peeps think, perhaps give a description or breakdown off the characteristics of the four recordings. cheers, and apologies, andy

  15. And that's the thing with mics isn't it? Some are good for acoustic guitar, others for men's or women's voices, some for micing a bass drum. The differences are often subtle, placement, distance, even angle can have their affect. I've just two I kept. A Beta 58 for live use and a small condenser one (? make), for my wife, the singer of the two of us.

  16. @Tiger The Frog - all EW libaries come with a copy of Play. Most come with Play 5, but some of the newer ones (Hollywood Choirs, for example) come with Play 6.
    1 point
  17. Thanks, @JohnG No big thing. I can hear the differences, but they are subtle. Both tracks would stand. When using more than 2 ribbons, I'll probably use the asp880 on low impedance for spillover. When possible, I'll use the neve for the ribbons. I'll not be disappointed if no one listens to the tracks. They were a study i did for myself that I'm sharing the results of.

  19. T'was meant in jest, Synkrotron. But then ... Pah! You just lose a couple of inches of headroom. Now, you didn't know you measured headroom in inches, did you? You always thought it was measured in dB. 😉 We live and learn. 🙄 Hopefully.

  20. I would say more... There are no theoretical limits for realistic simulation of anything... Including any signal type... Audio is just a small part of whole big picture incoming...

  21. The user defined layouts should be immediately below the the "Sort by" layouts. If they are not visible, it could be they are on a compressed drive, they are not located in the folder specified in preferences or there is some other problem parsing the files.

  24. False floors, cable trays with lots of separation, would love to be able to do that. I just ain't got the space. I've been up since the crack of dawn cutting down as much on cable lengths as possible. I have been kidding myself that I might need some long cables so, for instance, I have been using three metre long cables to connect stuff in my little rack. At the dentist as I type. When I get home I have to power up and check everything works. I will post some before and after pictures, just for laughs

  27. Much, MUCH easier to install a false floor. 😏 With adequately earthed conduits spaced in a criss-cross fashion. Then power can run its course and likewise sigal cables. No "gentle wrapping" required. Tsk! Simples. 🙄

  29. Hi, Oyvind, This is a very cool epic progressive metal instrumental!👍 Great composition and arrangement, and all of the instrumentation and playing was really well done. Fantastic guitar tones and excellent guitar playing, and lots of cool, complex melodies with twists and turns to keep the listener's interest. You've also got a powerful sounding, clear and wide, modern metal mix that sounds perfect for the genre. Great work, powerful piece of music!😀 Best Wishes, Bob

  31. Very pleasant both musically and lyrically. Your voice suits the style of this and the arrangement is very peaceful. Kinda reminds me of some of Harry Nilsson's quieter ballads. 😃John B.

  32. Did you guys catch the bass lines? Really understated but boy do they fit the piece well. In the first minute or so, I felt like I was fighting to hear the cadence, the rhythm. A lot of guitar timings that didn't seem to mesh or sync. And then I realized, not only did the rhythm get tighter as the song progresses - but great melody, super vocal, and those stringy mellotrons in the background. And the chorus? bgv's were really nice. So I came to see the rhythm as something more live, perhaps not in perfect sync, but very much as if they were all grooving in a room. And I liked it. And, holy crap, there are no drums! That's an ambitious leave-out. I'd say it works a treat. very cool. cheers, -Tom

  33. Plus you can use existing MIDI that you like, import it and use that as the basis for Jamstix to add realism. Just needs a little commitment to learn. Also the rayzoon forum is super friendly.

  35. Nice! Worked like magic! Synkrotron, Thank you for your efforts and graphics! I see what you are saying about buses, and it does make sense, but for my projects gain automation is exactly what I need. Noel, Thank you for confirming! Best regards, Misha.

  36. Yes, that does help. Thank you very much. I'm kicking myself for not seeing this setting in the Lense Manager. Now I can change windows layouts using Screensets only and save these with my projects. I can also swap between different screensets. I will still use Lenses as they give me the ability the hide screen elements that are irrelevant to my current workflow.

  37. Steve, this is one of those songs where you listen carefully to each word. I've never been to London but the mood you set brings back melancholic feelings for places where I've lived in the past.

  40. If you follow Ben's steps and change the lenses as above and resave the lenses, the next time you switch they will not change your current screenset. To explain further, a screenset basically saves the "windows layout" and allows you to switch between different layouts. Lenses on the other hand include windows layouts settings among other things. So disabling this in the lens is essentially telling the lens manager to retain the current layout settings when you switch to that lens. To match the OP's workflow if you don't want a lens to affect the layout of windows you can simply disable this and continue to use screensets after switching to the lens of your choice. BTW in the next release we fixed a bug with lenses that could affect new projects created from templates. I recommend reading this help topic to learn more about lenses when creating your custom lens presets. There are a lot of settings beyond the simple view layouts that screensets store. For example you can set up a lens that shows customized controls in tracks, customize what toolbar modules are available and even customize what features are available. For example you can make a lens that is geared towards mixing and strip out all editing views. Rather than dealing with a single monolithic app with a huge feature set, you can bring in features only when needed using lenses. Settings that can be loaded by a Lens: Theme. Load the saved UI theme. Note: the Lens only saves a reference to the theme name, so the theme must exist in order for the Lens to load it. If the referenced theme file cannot be found, then the active theme will be used. Control Bar Layout. Load the saved Control Bar configuration. Window Layout. Load the saved window layout, including size and position. This option functions as a global screenset. Display Settings. Load global display settings that are specified in the Preferences dialog box. Keyboard Shortcuts. Load any custom keyboard shortcuts that are assigned in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts. Track Control Manager. Load the saved Track view control configuration (visibility of Volume, Pan, Mute, Solo, Arm for Recording, etc.). Track View Control Order. Load the saved Track view control order.

  41. Having power cables crossing signal cables is usually not a problem, or minimally so. Right angles is optimal. It's when they're run side by side for any length that mains hum can be induced into the signal. Best to find an alternate route via a different part of the stage. Balanced cables used on unbalanced electronics is a waste of money. But I imagine you already know that?
    1 point
  42. It should already be possible to switch lenses without changing the window layout. 1. Open the 'Lens Manager' (select 'Manage Lenses...' in the Lenses dropdown menu). 2. Select the lens you want to modify. 3. Uncheck 'Window Layout' in the 'Settings' section. 4. Click the save button to save your changes. Now, whenever you switch to the above lens, your window layout won't change. As Noel mentioned, lenses are a superset of screensets. By following the above instructions, you're effectively turning off screenset functionality for your lens. Does that help?

  46. One of the best for Cakewalk was Roland A800 Pro. It is still the best IMHO. Not only it has really really nice keybed & feel (synth type), it also perfectly integrates with Sonar. The setup is easy, never had any problem in any Windows (7,8,10). Too bad it was discontinued couple years ago, but it is still available in many store to purchase.
