  1. Indiginus / Concert Ukulele We sampled a lovely concert ukulele to create our version of this unique, diminutive instrument. Play normally or use our strumming engine to create realistic tracks with ease, and don't be surprised when you find yourself singing along! The Ukulele for Kontakt 5 or 6, Full Version Introductory price $30 USD 600 MB Downloa Two notes about the videos below. 1. The correct (Hawaiian) pronunciation is "oo koo lay lay". I never quite get this right in the overview video, but hey, I tried. 2. The female voices in the other video were created using Realivox Blue by Realitone (Mike Greene). http://indiginus.com/the_ukulele.html

  3. Thanks for the expressions of support guys. I don’t have the temperament to deal with internet crap anymore. In the last several years I’ve suffered the loss of several close family members, and personal health issues including severe depression. At times the forum community was all that kept me sane and at other times the desire to be a part of everything and stay involved was so overwhelming that I had to withdraw for periods. Anyway that’s what was.

  4. Cakewalk's future looks as good as any. On the plus side is that Cakewalk doesn't have to keep increasing sales revenue every quarter to stay alive, and that's a good thing! They even had a big presence at NAMM 2019! I doubt that failure has been considered as an option for Cakewalk, as they are still in ramping up mode. So it would be silly for them to publicly discuss exit plans. As if there is even any obligation for them to do so.

  6. Hey y'all, We did our first test recording at my regular Friday gig and it came out great, wanted to share it! I brought my XPS 13 (oldie, model 9333) and a Roland VS100; we ran a kick mic and overhead for the drums, stereo for the keys and I grabbed a send from the main PA for the vocal. Jeff is such a powerful singer I think he's peaking the pre on this POS mixer they have there so it's a little... well, let's say it's dirty! All recorded into Cakewalk, which recorded flawlessly for 75 minutes at a time both sets; no overdubs, every note you hear was played live, no tracks, no click (obviously LOL). Full disclosure: I did have to use drum replacer for the Kick because the mic moved right against the head. I did NOT move any notes and DR actually was amazing: had to remove maybe 10 double triggers that shouldn't be there, and add just 1 extra trigger that didn't show. Finally, as I recorded the midi from my Kronos as well, I was able to separate the bass from the rhodes, and send the data from the latter to a Lounge Lizard, just to have a little more options to mix. No quantizing or moving of notes though. Eventually I might use the Midi to perhaps trigger Trilogy and really mix this thing! Lemmeno what ya think! R

  7. I've been using this firmware since it came out. I'm happy with it, and it's not caused any problems for me, however: 1. They are beta drivers, so I can't guarantee you'll not have any issues and; 2. As I said previously, once you've upgraded you cant go back unless Focusrite can offer a way of downgrading the firmware. WDM works fine, but I've not used it in anger. The only time I've used it was to test simultaneous recording from my MLAN setup along with my 18i20 (48 simultaneous tracks ) WDM is a pretty old driver technology. Compared to ASIO it sucks. I doubt if you'll get lower latencies with WDM drivers than you will with ASIO.

  8. Just my 2cents. I use the gain knob to get initial levels going into the FX bin and track fader where I want them for things like hitting a compressor or saturator at a level I like. This might not even be necessary if the plugin has an input gain on it. In that case I use it to set an approximate level so my volume faders can be set close to the 0db level. This gives me more resolution when I am mixing and want to tweak the level of the track in the mix. You could also do all this with clip envelopes or destructively applying gain to a track and then leave the gain knob at 0.

  11. That's my Plan "Z", as in if the Windows zombie apocalypse ever happens to us. I already have Tracktion Waveform working on Windows (it's PC, Mac, & Linux cross-platform), and I believe Bitwig has a Linux version, and Reaper has a Linux beta. So not a showstopper, except for most of my 500 plugins probably wouldn't work that great in Linux. The Tracktion synths and FX would probably be good to go.

  12. For many years now I've found that after 5 tracks I'm getting twitchy. Apparently this is a thing and not just me, one theory being that modern production techniques are the cause of this by being fatiguing on the ears. I also think that in these days where people don't necessarily buy the whole album but cherrypick the individual tracks that they like that compiling the album in such a way that makes it more coherent is becoming less of a thing because most people never listen to the whole thing anyway. Some of my favourite albums back in the day had a very distinct side 1 and side 2 where the mood changes as it builds and are just not the same if listened to in a random order.

If such a brave new world takes shape, geeks like me (and probably you, @Craig Anderton), will move to applications like Reaper, and there will probably be more of them in a future environment in which the "majors" are trying to tether their customers to subscriptions. As you know from the old forum, we don't like no steenking subscriptions...

  18. I guess it all depends on your main objectives Andy. I know you are very much an ITB kind of guy. I would do as you propose and look at hardware control of more parameters if I were working ITB. There is some very cool gear out there older and used with amazing midi control built in. More recent developments are some of the Softube stuff. I'll never forget my old CME 88 key controller. What was unique about it was it had a midi tempo dial. I could speed up/slow down midi mixes at will. CME went through some driver compatibility issues and fell out of favor with lots of musicians for that reason. Are you using hardware synths as well?

  26. Well, I wrote a book of CbB tips, and thought BandLab would welcome the opportunity to make people aware of all the cool things you can do with Cakewalk when you wander off the beaten path, but there was never any interest on their part in making people aware of it. Ultimately Reverb.com thought it was great, and carried the book (where it has done well). I did think it was kind of odd when Noel started a thread about "the first book about CbB" when mine had been out for a year IIRC. However, I assume they didn't get behind it because there's no Cakewalk store or in-app purchases, although I never did get a response as to why there was no interest. I assume they didn't answer you because they don't have a clue where they would park what you did, and didn't want to promise you something they couldn't deliver in the short term (which does seem to be the way that BandLab rolls, and in general, that's a good thing). However, I agree that at least a "We're drowning right now, please be patient" note to you would have been appropriate. You did a lot for the community, in many different ways. If I were BandLab, I'd do anything possible to keep you in the fold.

  27. Wile were talking Thunderbolt Cards /Motherboards : Im running A Asus z370a motherboard.. I originally purchased the Asus EX3 thunderbolt card and after a little fiddling got it up and running.. but I had read that the Gigabyte thunderbolt card was easy to install and offered more features ..so I orderd one https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GC-ALPINE-RIDGE-rev-20#ov the connectors are much better and the unit came with cables to hook up to asus gigabyte and asrock motherboards .. this unit is rock solid ..1 driver ..there is also : https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GC-TITAN-RIDGE-rev-10#kf Titan ridge offering even more features !.. I would seem that Universal Audio is onboard with Gigabytes and supporting them : this board came up as a Has It All Board ! https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-DESIGNARE-rev-10#kf Note As Jim said if your running a thunderbolt ll interface ..as I am you need a converter : https://www.startech.com/ca/Cables/thunderbolt-3-cables/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-thunderbolt-adapter~TBT3TBTADAP I payed 85.00 cad for mine !

  28. Someone once affectionately (I hope) described me as "one of those annoying 'glass half-full' people." Like that guy in your avatar pic, it's hard-won. And I can usually back it up with examples and facts. Just stating what is possible if it goes right. Anything can go wrong. Put a bad manager in the mix, an untalented programmer or two, I've seen plenty of promising products die sad deaths. I was at Macromedia when they killed Deck. 😲 Yes, one of the early, very promising DAW's, I was firsthand witness to its downfall. Freeware is fun, but requires sifting through, vetting. Bedroom Producers Blog is great at that. That's where I learned that Cakewalk had gone freebie. Maybe I'll start a thread in the Coffee House for "other happening freeware." It's so easy to wind up with 30 compressors and 25 EQ's when one should really focus on getting to know maybe 5 of each, if that many. If somebody said to me "you can't get a top-quality mix using all freeware plug-ins" I'd say, "perhaps that's true in your case." OrilRiver reverb, Unlimited limiter, Reaplugs collection, Dead Duck FX, there are some fine things out there.

  29. Nope! Had to look it up 😋 Cool device... It would certainly be possible to implement the basic functionality (the variations on a rhythm, etc.), maybe use a little 2 bar GUI to click in the basic beat or use a Midi keyboard to tap it in. Strumming in the pattern on a guitar would actually be the (relatively) easy part, but that would require a VST... I think sticking to MFX for this one is a good idea. Not an easy project but not extremely difficult, either. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add it to the list 🎸

  31. @synkrotronNot wishing to sound condescending but you are in high performance mode, yes? I'm just looking at that Adaptiverb on what sounds like a VSTi track on a somewhat aging mobile CPU, so not being in high performance mode is a bad idea as Zynaptiq plugins can get pretty intense pretty quickly. Spiking one core is obviously loading one core too heavily, so if you've got the verb as an insert on a demanding VSTi with (hopefully not) a bunch of other inserts on the track as well then that's something you could look into. Run the output of the VSTi to a bus, then load that bus with the plugins. Split the verb off to a send as well so it's not on the bus. Try increasing your buffer. Be aware that you might be asking too much; many modern plugins are getting pretty demanding.

  33. Not sure what Tom's been smoking, but to me you sound neither English nor anything like Elvis Costello 🤣..I got more of a Josh Groban vibe. Anyway... well written song, nicely captured. Drums are a bit stiff, but programming can be like that. Certainly of your best tunes. Just a thought - I notice you guys all post the songs on your individual pages, why not have a dedicated Scandalous Grace page on Soundcloud?

  35. I'm using a Focusrite 2i4 interface connected by USB 3 port to a Win 10 desktop with an i7 processor (HP EliteDesk 800 G3, small form factor). My ASIO control panel is set to a buffer size of 128 with a sample rate of 44.1 KHz. I was getting a few pops and crackles at that sample rate which got much worse when I lowered it to 64 and still persisted (although, very rarely) even when I raised it to 256. I Went to Focusrite's site and found a lot of tips for optimizing a Win 10 PC for use with a DAW here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207355205-Optimising-your-PC-for-Audio-on-Windows-10 Here's the one suggestion that seemed to make all the difference for me: 3. Set processor scheduling to "Background services" This will improve the performance of your audio drivers on your computer. To do this: - In control panel select "system" - Go to "Advanced system settings" and then the "Advanced" tab - Click on "Settings.." under Performance to bring up the "Performance Options" window. - Go to the "Advanced" tab and set processor scheduling as "Background Services" - Click "Apply" then "OK" Now I get zero crackles all the way down to a sample rate of 64 (but a few do start to show up again at 32). Anyway, It's rock solid at 128 so I'm leaving it there for now.

  36. I got more than a little of the Elvis Costello vibe from this! Maybe not what you were aiming at? Your voice is good and with an English accent, might pass for E.C. . .. Mix-wise, I listened on decent headphones, and in the verses, your voice is just about as loud as the bass. Particularly in the first verse/intro. LAter, your vocal mixing seems louder and it works much better. You might drop thebass a bit in the first part . . . Nice powerful singing at the end! Maybe bgv up a little? The other thing to work out is perhaps that lead guitar patch, it's thin sounding, like you just went with a DI track from an Ovation. Did you gird it with an amp sim? Got a beefier patch? Overall, the song holds together quite well, and I think this is one of your better ones. Well done! cheers, -Tom

  38. Thank you for your work, I'm a little bit jealous about your programmer's skills Do you know a Digitech SDRUM? It is a hardware pedal primarily for guitarists with some kind of "random" intelligence. If you teach it kick/snare pattern, it is able to compute and offer several variation of hi-hats, cymbals, stick and so on. I'm desperately searching for this type of VST but no results. The closest solution is "Tap 2 Find" from EZDrummer2, but it is "only" a search engine for pre-prepared midi drum grooves. How easy/hard will be to create something similar to SDRUM? Of course just a MIDI, without drum VSTi or guitar audition SDRUM feature. I think I'm not alone who miss this functionality in a computer world.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with me, Noel. The other thing I wanted to point out was that I had a chance to spend some time with a guy from Singapore who said, I believe, that he was the product manager for the Bandlab mobile product. I asked him all kinds of stuff about the transition and the future and I was quite pleasantly surprised to see how open and honest he was. Very nice guy! Thanks for time, guys! Ed

  40. Windows 10 can influence the DAW performance and some not ASIO aspects of audio. But as long as the device and the driver are the same, you can expect the same latency. Also as I have mentioned the first post in that thread does bot contain everything, people was measuring interfaces on Windows 10 and not only with 44.1kHz. For Scarlett, in one of the posts it is mentioned that "64" setting is probably 128 samples per buffer internally. All interfaces have some "extra" latency settings, some of them can expose a part of these settings in some form to the user. The latency is a sum of many delays: AD + transfer to computer + driver + transfer from computer + DA. The buffer size is just a chunk size in which audio is processed in the DAW. That directly influence the latency, f.e. if a DAW works with 48kHz/128 the "buffer length" in time is 2.8ms. Since the DAW becomes the whole buffer, that theoretically can not happened before 2.8ms since the first sample is digitized. But all other processes are not instant, f.e. the DAW should have time to process the buffer. The difference between measured latency and the buffer size latency is what the interface+driver have to do the rest. F.e. 7.3ms - 2.8ms = 4.5ms. The smaller the buffer own length (f.e. 96kHz/64 - 0.6ms) the smaller total latency can be, with the same "overhead" (4.5ms + 0.6ms = 5.1ms). In practice, not all components of the overhead are constant.

  41. As far as learning anything by way of switching to another DAW is concerned, most of us, (willingly or otherwise) would have to acknowledge that one DAW does not 'do it all' I now use Studio One as my 'go to' sequencer but also use Cakewalk by Bandlab, Reaper and Samplitude for certain tasks/music styles*. In the aftermath of Cakewalk's demise I also tried demo versions of Tracktion/Waveform, Bitwig, Cubase, Ableton Live and Fruity Loops but just didn't like the workflows and GUIs offered by these programs. * For me, there is now a clear demarcation in the DAW marketplace between EDM oriented programs and the rest e.g. you don't need the ability to modulate every software parameter by another one when performing and recording more traditional non-electronic musical forms

  42. Honestly, time is a precious resource. I'd much rather they distribute a PDF user guide so that we can search and view while on the go. I'd much rather read the manual while I'm riding shotgun or between sessions at the training center than waste hours of my time watching YouTube videos. Not having a PDF manual, at least the old Sonar Platinum manual with the obvious caveat that some things may differ, is awful. I have time in between activities while out and about, but I'm definitely not going to sit in front of YouTube and waste that much time. I want an actual PDF user guide.

  43. I asked in the Instruments & Effects section If there was a keyswitch management system in cakewalk like on Cubase? Obviously no, so it would be a great help and a considerable time saver, seen the ton of virtual instruments based on the keyswitch that exist, to have this kind of option.

  44. USB audio interfaces with lowest round-trip latency are RME and MOTU (both sub 4ms). By comparison: The Apollo Thunderbolt series yields ~3.7ms total round-trip latency. Presonus Quantum yields ~1ms total round-trip latency. Note: Many audio interfaces don't allow selecting ASIO buffer size smaller than 64-samples when using higher sample-rates.

  45. Quad Curve with Flyout is one of the true Gems in the Cakewalk package. It was a premium feature when the software had $100, $200, $500 tiers. The fly out was only available in the $500 tier and was one of the primary reasons I went "all in." The fact it is free in the package should not muddy your eye sight into thinking it isn't one of the best on the market for non-liner phase needs.
