  1. Back in the old forums there were statements made about the lack of videos made using Sonar suggesting its unpopularity. Well, there have been a plethora of quite recently uploaded video tutorials on YouTube using Cakewalk By BandLab. For any newbie coming into these forums asking questions, I think a sticky should be made of these videos which are very informative. Below are a few YouTube channels I've found. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwqZ0GPSfFgbc8gLCxaYngRGVvlaf57gI https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSfPaEe4wG_TxprjqVLxh9yAH-zGhA8bH https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDkWv3OTMpOHb2hMjuNWBQWyuhhIF6bHj https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeySI9gLWqezjlplGQqTJyhrbvCvKdzTk

  2. Our first spotlight special is now active. These are special sales for a single expansion that run for a whole month. Simply connect with the JS4 manager tool and the sale will be shown with a purchase link, if you do not already own the expansion. Our first special is AIPak for just $15 versus the regular $29 list price. This expansion gives you 30 new styles and 8 new drummers. Isn't it a no-brainer to get more AI for your Jamstix? (I'm here all week, don't forget to tip your drummer...)

  4. +1 The remaining free VIs in this family currently are: Amplified Cello Quartet, Charango, Choir, Drums, Electric Piano, Frozen Strings, Soft Piano, Strings and Synth Pads. You access them via the LABS VST. The UIs are all the same: 2 slides and 1 rotary knob. The parameters they control vary from VI to VI. Kontakt NOT required. LABS is the host. Nice! I think it's terrific of Spitfire to package existing samples with additional new processing into these little freebies. First rate!

  6. I disagree - the bassist is just trying to upstage the guitarist while he's playing the solo. ---typical if you ask me.

  7. Please could I have a multicoloured spectrum analyzer that works off the matsr bus, and has a piano roll along the top much like the EQ one, and can sit along the top , like the transport control. Ideally stretchable or at least 2 or 3 different lengths for choice to suit the visual monitors I'm using. It would be nice to add a mouse over effect that highlights the frequency and note the pointer is over by reporting it in the corner of the analyzer. I always have a plug in for this, and constantly have to put it back in focus and move it around so I can work with other plug ins. I'd like it just there.. always ready for a glance in view.

  8. Let the good news spread throughout the land. Throughout the shining galaxies. From the mountain tops to the valleys below. From the fishes of the air to the fowls of the sea. I am here !!! (I think) (bloody cool, huh... Major honor to hang out with my old buddies and folks never met. When they shut down the old forum, was in the midst of irritating someone or something. Hope to pick this up where I left off.) Love you all, JohnKenn

  11. The AMBEO Orbit is a Sennheiser’s free binaural panner plugin, designed to facilitate mixing immersive binaural content. It is designed to facilitate mixing conventional mono or stereo audio in with binaural audio captured using binaural techniques such as the Neumann KU100. Orbit re-creates the spatial cues which place sources in binaural space. Useful Even If You Don’t Have A Binaural Mic While a proper dummy head mic captures binaural recordings which are amazingly immersive when replayed over headphones (top tip - binaural works much better using open back headphones rather than closed back) this technique can be captured using the Sennheiser AMBEO headset (keep your head still or you’ll have an automation nightmare trying to match a moving head!) or even building a dummy head mic using a pair of omnis the right distance apart with something in between them. Trying this mic on dry mono sources Orbit works well introducing space and width to anything and is a useful alternative to reverb for pushing elements back in a mix - and best of all its free! https://s3.amazonaws.com/assets.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/11114/Sennheiser_AMBEO_Orbit_1.0.1_WIN.zip

  14. A better question in February 2019, 10 months after the first release of Cakewalk by BandLab: why does this subject continue to hold such a fascination for some people, one that shows no sign of ending? Me, I think I'm done. It's like trying to explain when a 4-year-old asks why the room gets bright when you flip the light switch: no answer will ever be satisfactory. I can say that I have learned some things from these spirited discussions. For instance: 1. Nothing's ever free, and DAW software that is distributed under a freeware license will at some point extract an unspecified "payment" from those foolish enough to use it without being in a constant state of sub-clinical paranoia. You'll see. Laugh now. You won't be laughing when this unspecified bad thing eventually happens. 2. Nothing can make sense in the world except things that are within the grasp of my own personal understanding, no matter what my age, education or experience. This especially applies to software industry and online social media platform business strategies. In other words, if I don't get what they're doing, they're either doomed or up to no good. 🤨 (or both)

  16. I mentioned this on another thread. I installed and tried it out, and it slurped up like 39% of my CPU. Channel strip for 2 tracks, I guess. 🤨 It does look interesting, but that is a non-starter with my iC3 CPU...

  17. It's a tractor beam to draw people into the BandLab ecosystem. And you can't sell add-ons unless people have the core program. As a precedent, consider IK's AmpliTube Free. It's a fine amp sim and free, but they make their money from people going to the Custom Shop and buying more modules.

  18. To gain memberships to the Bandlab platform. To lure in more serious musicians and to retain the ones who out grow the limitations of the online and mobile apps. A huge Bandlab user base is the short goal. That in itself has value. Bandlab is a combination online DAW like Soundation, user content streaming service like Soundcloud and social media platform like twitter. For this to work you need users and lots of them.

  19. I think Quantizing and Auto-tune are the two things that take the soul out of the music. Over-compressing is a close third IMHO.

  24. There are two things that make it almost unusable to me: Most importantly the sound, which at first sounds nice, but when you get deeper you realize that there are SERIOUS phase issues with just about any mic combo. It just doesn't work in mono. My Kronos has the same problem, even though it sounds wonderful in stereo. Also, the dynamics are crap. Again, if you just play a chord and hold it it sounds great, but if you actually play it, and know how a real piano responds, it feels horrible. Even with max dynamic range set it's got nothing. My Kronos does not have this problem, but so far the only thing I've played that gives me the same feeling of expressiveness as the Steinway B I play every Sunday in church (just saying, I do know what I'm talking about LOL) is Ivory. Interestingly, Pianoteq 'feels' great even though it doesn't exactly sound like a real piano. It 'behaves' realistically if you know what I mean. Now the Addictive Keys Rhodes is much worse than the grand piano; to me it's completely unplayable. When compared to Lounge Lizard or even the old EVP 73 it's doodoo. My Kronos has modeled Rhodes too and it is wonderful. Speaking of the EVP: I still use it! It's less than 1 Megabyte and to me blows every single sample set out of the water. We're living in a time where so many keyboard players (even really good ones!) have only ever played plastic instruments; they don't have any idea what kind of expressive range a piano has. All of that said: if you're NOT a high level pianist, or if you're 'programming' music at home, all those plugins can work miracles. Don't think I'm an old fart who doesn't like tech; couldn't be further from the truth. I LOVE experimenting with synths and have for more than 30 years! Can't believe how good the Rhodes models have become, even on my Kronos: they can truly replace the 73 Mark I had many moons ago and then some. The Native Instruments B4 sounds every bit as good as a B3 and has all the quirks and noise of the real thing! In my opinion, their new organ VST is a HUGE step backwards in playability. You just can't sample the complexities and nonlinearities in instrument, you need modeling... Sorry for the long rant! R

  27. Craig This is partly my fault going off the deep end in public and egging brother John to explain things that are completely outside the radar but I could not resist These obscure questions and answers deal with the real practice of yoga This is not the incense choking parlor scene with middle aged moms in spandex trying to limber themselves and chant in Swahili There is no religion only science involved Those that understand the science are few and far between and more precious than any wealth to be had They are our teachers and benefactors if there is the eye to see and the ear to listen By chance I found a similar soul in beer drinking John For my life I have carried a treasure that cannot be shared with neighbors with PTA members with fraternal orders of this and that My husband Eric is the touchstone of American family responsibility but his eyes glaze over and he tunes me out when I get a metaphysics attack I would not be surprised if John bears the same frustration Was it George Harrison who said Look at you all see the Love there that's sleeping While my guitar gently weeps Hey John We can carry this conversation offline or continue here for the glorious irritation of it all J-

  39. I would recommend using a client with a cloud based email service that both support the IMAP protocol, such as Thunderbird and Gmail (and others). The advantage to doing this is that the cloud based email can still be accessed, if needed, from anywhere using web mail (or a mobile client) if you are away from your main email client (for example from a mobile phone, a laptop, work, a friends computer, etc). The IMAP protocol (which can replace POP/SMTP) provides for instant two-way sync of all your mail folders including inboxes and sent mail, accessed from any device that can sign into your email account. This way, your main client on your home PC can become your backup repository for all of your cloud based mail folders via IMAP, while giving you the flexibility to have complete access to your email from anywhere/any device. Use IMAP to check Gmail on other email clients: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

  44. Buying Kontakt was the most value I've gotten for my dollar in the last 5 years, in terms of stuff bought for my music hobby. I fire Kontakt up in every project I do, and a good number of my really essential libraries use it. I've even started rolling my own small patches -- just because I can, and its fun. FWIW, I'm extremely glad I picked it up...
